How does Indian brand charcoal sticks compare to Nitram?

Nitram are semi hard charcoal and less brittle. Other charcoal (vine and willow, indian or imported) are brittle but are rich black. Also nitram comes in grades.

How do you replace the sharpening pads when they are worn out?

I have not yet tried. But probably you can remove them with the help of cutter and stick the new pads with glue.
