Last couple trips I’ve gone on, I always stay in hotels. Only benefit to Airbnbs is the money you can save by cooking your own food because hotels don’t have kitchens. But if you plan on being a food tourist and going to restaurants, you might as well stay in a hotel

This whole tournament has been refreshingly wholesome with how nicely everyone's treating each other.

@@toziassmitt tournament is already over. He needed 6.5 and got 5.5. it was a Close one! On the plus side he increased his rating quite a bit. So it's not as if this didn't count for anything.
@@adisamma ah damn. I wonder if he’ll ever get those norms. I kind of feel like this success and resurgence he’s having will power him for a bit- a year or two, but I think after a while it will drop off into the background as he focuses on other (probably more lucrative) ventures. I feel like if he doesn’t get the norms within a year or two, that’s probably a wrap. Those year or two will be be best chance he’ll ever have though, renewed motivation and vigor and what not
@@toziassmitt If he truly wants to get the norms, he's not gonna quit on the GM arc altogheter, he can just milk himself to get content and merch during the tournaments and do those lucrative ventures in the 1-2 months in between tournaments.

This tournament, The elos were 2535 ~ 2322 ... with Levy being 2322 starting with the absolute lowest ELO. And he came in second place losing only a single game.
Even if levy did not get his GM norm the fact that’s he was that close returning to competitive chess in 2+ years is promising. He definitely has what it takes to be GM

Getting the rating plus the confidence is absolutely essential to getting the GM title and the GM norms. Even if he doesnt get the GM norm this is still a great tourna for Levy.

Levy, I have been following your journey as a chessplayer and content creator for several years at this point, ever since the early chessboom in 2021.
If you continue improving like this, not only will you become a grandmaster, you'll become one of the players others will fear on their chess journey. Your chess has evolved, and it iwll continue to evolve if you let it. Do not be discouraged by a few mistakes here and there. If you keep up this trajectory, GM is not even your end destination anymore.

I feel like this is the best you could hope for in a first tournament return. You're controlling your nerves, you're keeping a positive mindset, and you gained a ton of rating points. It seems like you even know what your next barrier is-- that being endurance through the entire event, which is hard to practice outside of simply competing more. The norm was within reach, but you weren't expecting it right away anyway, so it shouldn't matter too much. I feel proud, and I look forward to your next tournament!

Your book taught me basics and my initial baseline of 800 rapid has grown to 1300 over 2 years (Yes it was mostlt ur videos but last fall ur book came out and its 🔥 and was like my amateur capstone). Your passion and humor opened my heart to the game. The beauty & enjoyment of most sports is being able to root for and get behind your favorite team. Ask any soccer fan and they'll say watching a game as a neutral just isn't as enjoyable. In most sports, people follow the team associated with their city/state/country etc. I think that's why the Olympiad is so many people's favorite chess event of the year: You follow your country's team, and that gives the event a story and a sense of drama.
For me these personal tournament diary videos capture that sense of narrative in a way that chess rarely does. More content like this is what Chess needs to grow as a sport.

Around 15:35 in when you keep saying "I don't know why I didn't take"... I'm sure you also know that sometimes it's better for the opponent to make the capture. If the opponent's pawn takes yours on the F file, you can recapture with the G pawn, which is protected by the rook on E2, and if they take your E1 rook, you take theirs with your Queen, so they just lose out on pieces and make your stronger ones more active. So maybe not taking is perfectly fine at this point.
