Presentation of the Address in Reply to the Governor-General | NZ Parliament

On Wednesday, 17 March the House of Representatives thanked the Governor-General of New Zealand for opening the 53rd Parliament.
This involved the Speaker, Rt Hon Trevor Mallard, presenting the Address in Reply to the Speech from the Throne to the Governor-General, Rt Hon Dame Patsy Reddy, at Government House.
The Speaker was accompanied by the Serjeant-at-Arms, Clerk of the House, Deputy Clerk, and Clerk-Assistant. Members of Parliament present included Arena Williams MP (mover), Ibrahim Omer MP (seconder), Kieran McAnulty MP, Brooke van Velden MP, Matt Doocey MP, and Hon Julie Anne Genter MP.
❓ What is the Address in Reply?
The Address in Reply is the House’s thanks to the Governor-General for delivering the Speech from the Throne. This speech was delivered at the State Opening of Parliament in November last year, following the 2020 General Election. The speech outlined the Government’s legislative and policy programme for the new Parliament to consider.
The Address in Reply debate on the Government’s proposals occupied 19 hours of House time in the first weeks of the 53rd Parliament.
