Yeah man.... Leprous are one of those rare breeds - utterly current, progressive, contmepory and authentic. Yet no one outside the scene knows them. They could/should be absolutely HUGE but in reality feel like a secret heavy Radiohead.
I totally agree! They're a fantastic band and have really pushed the progressive scene forward. Also - a little tip mate, have you heard of a band called Blood Incantation? Not sure if it might be a little heavy for your liking but I do really think that you would be a big fan of theirs!
@@TheMetalTris strangely enough I’ve just ordered their new album! I listen to a strange ambient drone album of theirs a couple of years ago on the channel, and know that wasn’t what they are known for. I’m looking forward to it!!!!
Couldn't agree more. They really are the definition of Prog for me. A really consistently brilliant band that keep you guessing in the best way possible!
Bilateral is one of my favourite progressive album ever. It was truly unique. I enjoyed Coal, but the latter material wasn't really for me. Having said that, Like a Sunken Ship really intrigued me, so I'm interested in giving the melodies of Atonement a listen.
Oh yeah for sure, I think that there is something for every Leprous fan on display here. There's a lot of interesting stuff and if you were a fan of the singles then I think you will really enjoy the record. Such a great band and agree that Bilateral really was a wholly unique record.
Hey Tris - great review as always - I'm not a fan of Leprous but I think Rupert rocks! I'm still head stuck in Nile at the moment. Hope all's well mate.
Hahaha - Nile is more your kind of vibe for sure! Though I do know that you're a man that appreciates the subtleties when they are there. Perhaps Leprous might be one for some of those quieter moments eh? If you do check it out, let me know what you think of it! I forget but are you a fan of Every Time I Die?
Oh man, that's quite some time ago haha! I thought that Coal and Congregation were great as well as Malina. I think perhaps Pitfalls and Aphelion were a little divisive but this one definitely scratches a little more of the band itch that I've loved from them
Hi! I'd like to recommend you "Red Vector - Летопись Страны Советов" (2024). It is Russian progressive rock / progressive metal concept album about the life and death of USSR, created by a "zero-musician band" with the help of neural networks. You can find it on streaming platforms and UA-cam.
I was embarrassed to be listening to this in a grocery store parking lot. I couldn't tell you which ambient soundscape Einar was yodelling over at the time, but it was actually embarrassing. I do not remember anything else about this album, if I'm honest. Lots of boring ambience.
Hahaha the yodelling comment did make me laugh quite a bit I will conceded to that haha - thank for checking out the video all the same and I'm sorry that you weren't more of a fan of the record. Out of curiosity what kind of material of Leprous' is your favourite?
@@TheMetalTris I have actually liked every single album. Recently the most incredible moments were The Sky Is Red obviously, but one of my all time favorite songs by them is Bonneville. Baard's drum parts in Illuminate still explode my mind as well. This current album felt... Well, it didn't feel. Not for me, at least! I am happy others are getting something out of the album.
Baard is such a fantastic, creative drummer. Right up there with Gavin Harrison for me when it comes to the prog scene.
That's a good shout actually. Definitely see some similarities in them both, total finesse if you ask me! Thanks for checking the video out :)

Leprous are one of my favourite modern bands. They always add new textures to their sound.

I adore the album, it's amazing, like all their albums. Totally shocked that it gets so much uncalled for hate
I heard Rupert loves prog 😂. So in Faceless track the lead singer from Moths a band from Puerto Rico makes a guest appearance.
Hahaha exactly, loves it so much I think it was what made him deaf! Oh no way, that's cool man. I didn't know that, thanks for the heads up :)
Tall Poppy Syndrome (2009)
Bilateral (2011)
Coal (2013)
The Congregation (2015)
Malina (2017)
Pitfalls (2019)
Aphelion (2021)
Melodies of Atonement (2024) 👈🏻
They seem to have been slowly declining since Bilateral. Wasnt really taken by this one 😢
