Such an interesting video. I think people look at Nick and think he is strong and has it all together. And they miss how much has learned about himself over the arc of this series - he says to Imogen that he is starting to think he doesn't know himself and doesn't fit, doesn't know how to be himself. Alice Oseman created him as this well-rounded character in terms of having lots of weakness, but because he starts off as the popular kid, and he's seen as the heartthrob, he gets seen as the white knight for Charlie. And that means that people don't see how much he needs Charlie's support. This is a relationship of equals.
You’re exactly right. Well said! And Alice touches on that in the more recent chapters of the graphic novel online, specifically 7-21. I think Nick says something like Charlie gives him confidence, but when Charlie’s not there he feels lost.
I love how when they hug and the emotions are more intense, you can see them furrowing their brows. Like, it just shows how tightly they’re holding onto each other, how much they value each other as a safe space.
This is very well done! It gives credit to Mr. Locke’s, Charlie’s, subtle strength. I feel his tenacity is often overlooked. Without this display of his strength we would not be able to appreciate the tremendous growth of Mr. Connor’s character. Again, well done!
100% agree! The comics do a great job of fleshing out and shining a light on Charlie's quiet bravery and strength. His endurance despite considerable bullying, a toxic relationship with Ben, an eating disorder, and struggles with sh, etc, plus his willingness to put himself out there despite fear of rejection (ie. being the first to kiss Nick) demonstrate a pretty incredible tenacity. He definitely doesn't get enough credit for it!
Love this! Nick has definitely been through a lot in seven months! Charlie was there for him, sometimes in ways he thought were best, through it all. He thought letting Nick go in 1:8 was the best for Nick, glad they realized they were better together.
Nick is strong and doesnt have the terribles problems Char has, Nick has a extremely strong and suportive single mother, Nick is the PERFECT Human Being, accept incondicional, cares, high selfsteem, caring leader, valorate and respectfull, serious, FORMAL, MATURE, etc
This ONLY makes the whole situation with Charlie's mom going from banning Charlie from seeing Nick to full on GROUNDING him THAT much MORE heart-breaking. It's so sad that Charlie's mom doesn't care about him like a human being and can't see Nick for who he REALLY is. I know she BEGAN to do THAT in the 7th episode of Season 2 but she still has to realize that she can't control Char and what he does for much longer.

@@EPHTR8032 yes, true. And he also gets told by Tara and Elle that he is a people pleaser or an approval seeker.
