Their ultra-strict Christian conservatism included homeschooling their kids and encouraging women not to get jobs, and some audience members took issue with their lifestyle being presented as just another innocuous viewpoint instead of a potentially troubling environment for children. Then, the Josh Duggar sexual assault scandal broke, and the Duggars were suddenly deemed quite controversial.

They already explained in their series '14 kids and counting' why they went for homeschooling, where they get their curriculums from, how Michelle teaches, etc. They've also openly stated how they stand towards the world and you know what: it's ok for them to have their own opinions. What I don't agree on is their interferance with Planned Parenthood, giving equal rights to the LGBTQ+ community and for not punishingn their son the way he should've been punished since day 1.

If I, as a sexual abuse victim, want to talk about my sexual assault with people , whether via a blog post or conversation that is one thing. For someone else to choose to purposely publish a police report, with so little information redacted, that even those with half a brain stem, can figure out by means of deduction the identity of the victim for the whole world to see is as predatory as the abuse itself. That this was largely done as pay back for the duggars views on homosexuality makes it all the more sickening. And that is exactly what this was. The media, and the duggar haters could give two shits about the pain that sexual assault victims go through.

Her parents live in a tiny house and apparently her family was even more strict than the Duggars, so in the world where a dicorce is a worse thing than rape they wouldn't let her in. Plus she has no higher education or work experience so it'd be very hard for her to find a job. Maybe if she was willing to cooperate she would be able to find some help among social Services/charities or even her siblings Who chose to live a regular life but she's not brave enough to do that.

minah rai:the only two mentioned by name are Jessa&Jill. One might or might not have been Joy then maybe Jinger or Jana the other two are staying quiet so the other two are unknown the only two that have confirmed they were victims were Jessa and Jill. The fifth victim was a babysitter but even then the fifth victim isn’t saying anything either she hasn’t even been questioned on it. And the victims were mostly asleep when it happened. Plus Jessa and Jill have since forgiven him for what happened. Since it’s mild compared to what a lot of other victims go through for abuse. But the only two sisters that have said anything are Jessa and Jill so far. The other two are probably either still feeling conflicted or don’t want to make things worse than the media trying to make it seem more worse than it actually was. Basically the main reason the family covered it up was to protect the victims identities the last 3 names aren’t revealed only Jessa and Jill’s have been revealed since they talked about it with Megyn Kelly. There were originally 5 victims but only Jessa&Jill have forgiven him and decided to move on from the past by talking about it. The other 3 victims are probably staying quiet In order not to make things worse.

I just feel bad for whichever kid turns out gay. If you have 19 kids, the odds are not in the Duggar’s favor. That one kid will either get kicked out or live a lie.
There is speculation one of the older ones who just got married might be. I can only hope that if there is one, it gives them a wakeup call, but considering that I think Michelle cut off her own sister for being a lesbian, I doubt it.

I've always disliked the duggars. if you've watched the show you see how the older kids are the ones that clean, cook, and take care if the smaller kids. I always felt like Jim Bob and Michelle had kids just for free labor. they used theirs kids to do work!

My grandmother came from a family of 12 kids and she was the oldest. Her parents even admitted that they had more than 2 or 3 children in order to help out and survive. My grandmother told me yes she "mothered" her younger siblings quite often. Understandably, this was in the 1930s and on however, older children caring for younger children is not something the Duggars coined. I myself come from a family of 4, I am 13 years younger than my brothers and 14 years older than my sister so, I had to do a lot of helping with her as my brothers did with me as well as around the house. I was also taught at a young age to work. I helped my grandparents in their garden. I have been working a tax paying job since I was 15 years old. I currently work 2 jobs. Not because I HAVE to but because I choose to in order to provide for my wants as well as my needs. Children these days aren't required to do that therefore, they are of the mentality that they deserve everything they want and believe they don't have to work for it. Now, I don't agree with the Duggar lifestyle completely and think there are many many things odd about how they choose to conduct their family and how they chose to handle the situation with Josh as well as their religious beliefs. But that being said, a lot of their principles regarding work, frugality...etc is something these future generations need.

I have always hated the Dugger family. The mom just kept getting pregnant and having kids when it put the baby in danger. She had so many kids already and didn't care what could happen. Almost all my life I knew that I couldn't carry a baby, my sisters would have to carry it for me, and so many women have trouble getting pregnant or can't have children at all and this family just pops them out and uses them for a show. Knowing that their son has done horrible things to children, he should not be around any kids. They're not letting girls get a higher level of education is bull shit for so many reasons. Often in 3rd world, poorer countries it continues generational after generation because there are no outlets for help. The college thing is so wack. Their oldest daughter, Jana, is almost 30 with no job and still lives with her parents with them basically treating her like a slave. Her only hope is finding a husband to rescue her. The fact that all her other sisters have married already (with joy anna on track) doesn't help. Sad!
They won't let Jana leave because she is their main babysitter. It's sooo sad. Michelle almost didn't let Jessa leave because she was the kids' teacher and she didn't know "who could fill her role." It's so sad. She makes the older girls take care of the the younger kids while she barely does anything. She should take care of her own kids.
She can legally leave so staying there is her own stupid choice.
She can leave...but does she have the education to get a job? The funds to get a roof over her head to pass the time until she get's a job? Her age and empty resume will look really bad for anyone considering hiring her. After all, you want either a young person who you can train into the job for a lower pay, or an experienced person who already knows a few things. She's in that unfortunate middle, from what I've read. Too old to be considered young, no experience to counter her age.

I actually ate lunch with the family about 5 years ago. They are all very very nice people... well the parents anyways. The children never said a word. Not even to each other. I felt bad for them because all the children were playing on their phones or games and they were just sitting there staring...

I think it's kind of nuts how the public simultaneously wants people to stop their bad behaviors and, when they are seemingly rehabilitated, shun them from society. Seems like a bit of a behavioral cycle that we push.
My biggest issue is that the person who brought to light the molestation incident was someone who was let slip confidential police records illegally because she was a) homosexual and b)doing it in spite of the family's conservative beliefs. Yes, Josh's actions are inexcusable and need more than a slap on the wrist and a few months in a rehab. But what she did was expose something that needed to be dealt with without the spotlight of the entire world. I despise that wretched woman. I too live In Laredo and I have gone to that store very small and cheap. In Aisle 2 by the condoms I got fingered by an employee (forget his name) but loved the stuff that went on in the produce dept.. Jizz covered bacon? Yeah...they never hit their kids on camera, or used or mentioned any of the "discipline" methods recommended in that book on their show...so if it's true that they support those methods, they were obviously hiding it on purpose because they knew that they'd be heavily criticized or possibly even charged with child abuse.

My mom says that the Duggars are living in a cult similar to how people lived in the 1800's, with no kissing/frontal hugs until marriage/no holding hands until engagement, the male must ask the female's father for his permission to begin "courting" her (a term widely used back then), total male authority over females ("the way God ordained it", according to Anna's father in Josh and Anna's wedding episode), every outing must be chaperoned, no one-on-one texts/phone calls, modest dress covering the neck to the knees including the shoulders, modest swimwear, no alcohol or dancing, no secular music or books, not being allowed to marry someone who doesn't love God as much as you do, etc. At Erin Bates' wedding, Michelle said "We look forward to each of our children meeting and marrying the one God has for them." Also, they let Him decide the size of their families. They're letting the Bible and religion take over their lives; they even follow the eight-day mandatory circumcision rule for boys and abstain from sex for forty days after the birth of a boy and eighty days after the birth of a girl.
