Nice video -- I am glad someone is taking the time to focus on the budget option side of the world. I have been impressed by the value and quality of all 3 brands (I have the top and underquilts from all 3.) Onewind does make some really good stuff for very reasonable prices if you are in the hammock world especially. And my One Tigris chair is probably my favorite camping chair of them all..... The only problem I have with those 3 brands is weight and volume (mostly volume)....If you want to carry a 70l+ plus pack, then those brands will serve you well and the quality is defiantly there as well. I am trying to stay with about a 50l pack - and I just can't make those 3 brands work for me for that. But if I am setting up in the back yard or if I am "camping" instead of packing in.....you can bet I would not hesitate to choose offerings from any one of those 3 companies.

I took the One Tigris on my last backpacking trip in Shenandoah and it was perfect (took that one because it's warmer at night, so didn't need the warmer ones). Great stuff! thanks for buying them and comparing so i dont end up doing so myself lol I might end up going a different route with this - i already have a down jacket and a cheap throw blanket (also down, cost me 30€. certainly not RDS but...) I'm thinking of getting a pair of cheap down pants too. This way i could use the pants and jacket. zipping up the latter when i get cold, and covering myself with the blanket when even colder. Blanket has plastic snap buttons so i can close it up as a poncho or make a tunnel bag. No drawcords but at 200g i cant ask for much.

I have the tigris and mine IS 100% DUCK DOWN. As per the description. It also has a polyester LINER, NOT FILLING. This is common to keep the feathers from popping thru the outer layer of material. After using this on a recent trip to 14c I had to uncover my legs in the night to cool off a bit. I love this quilt, because of the compactness and weight. I plan on doing more Motorcycle camping in a hammock and this will definately serve my needs.

OneTigris never mention whether their down fillings are ethically sourced. This means you can pretty much assume the birds have been abused. Probably live plucked. I can't bring myself to buy anything by them.
Thanks, Nalim! Yes! I LOVE quilts! I definitely feel like I have more room in them, but can still stay warm. Sleeping bags can make me feel claustrophobic now. A quilt with pad straps will stay in place and keep you warm! I don't know if I can ever go back to a bag!
I have the one wind, I am going to sow on some extra straps and loops to have it connect to a sleeping pad. I like it. It is warm and practical for the weight, feels great. But. Slips off the body a bit too easily, only one strap at calve height. A few adaptations make it a great quilt. Cheap too.
Good review. I have been thinking about getting a quilt but I had some doubts on how well they work. After seeing how you have to close them I think I will stick with my sleeping bags, they make a lot more sense to me.
Ya, admittedly these budget ones aren't as good with the closure method as nicer quilts. But I know a lot of people prefer bags. Nice that there are so many options!
I think just a light blanket works great in the summer! For colder times of year I need more insulation than a light blanket can provide (and I don't want the weight of a heavy blanket).

Lol I was actually thinking about whether to get a quilt or a better sleeping bag . Looked at the onetigris but ended up getting a down bag. Walked into a camping store in the mall the other day looking for something else and it was on sale for almost half off , less than a cup of coffee more than the quilt and warmer and lighter too, and no waiting for delivery 😁

@@DoseofDirt it's a semi rectangular with a hood and a two way zipper so good room and venting options, there was a mummy bag for the same price, a little lighter but not by enough to be worth sacrificing the extra space
you should do a comparison on cotton sleeping pads/mats but used on tent floor rather than on a camping bed as they are designed to be used both ways. Would make a good alternative to the usual pads/mats. 2 to check out are from kingcamp and redcamp. I would pair with foam pad though not necessary.
Interesting! I haven't used those cotton pads before. I wasn't even aware they existed since I'm more of a backpacker than a car camper, but they look super comfortable and would probably work fantastic with a quilt!
Don't have the Onewind quilt...All my quilts are down and lightweight but I will say the Onewind hammock and tarp are as good as there is on the market and very affordable...

Nice budget comparison Jeff! Have you tried either the Aegis Max or the Nature Hike bag/quilt? They're around $100, pack small, weigh around 19 ozs and can get you down to around 50 degrees.

@@DoseofDirt Nice! You can combo up a S2S liner to add 10-14 degs for around 8-9 ozs and still be lighter. I have the Nature Hike quilt/bag. Got it because of it's ability to open all the way up and use as a wrap sort of like your poncho here 🤣 I need to do more weather testing with it to really narrow in the comfort range.
I was wondering if anyone else would mention AegisMax. I got the Nano2 a couple years ago for $85. Since it doesn't have a hood, it can be unzipped and used like a quilt with a sewn footbox. Perfectly comfortable at 40 degrees, weighs 22oz. Unfortunately, it's pretty rare to find it that cheap these days.

Crazy, I could NOT do the fastenings behind your back thing, that is flawed. Ideally then, a square sleeping bag with a zip all of the way around that can open as a quilt is the way to go, I have one, Snugpak navigator.

I also have Hammock Gear Econ Burrow that is rated for 40 degrees that I’m planning to compare. Been thinking about doing several videos comparing the nudge option to a more expensive option (quilts, backpacks, sleeping pads). You make the snap behind the neck look harder than it really is. Bring both corners to the front, snap it and stick your head through. I manage it with a full face mask Bipap and all the usual tubing so it can’t be that hard. I haven’t decided if I agree on the cinch cord up top or not. I can see some definite safety reasons NOT to have it especially given the kind of cord they use at the bottom. I love this piece of gear. Nice comparative review though.
Hi Jeff, Do any of the quilts have pad straps? It looks like you could fashion some kind of shock cord with the closures in the back, I also look for something like a draft collar around the neck and the cinch cord is vital to trapping in the heat. Thanks for the review :-)

None of them have pad straps, which I was a bit disappointed by, but I have already tried a few things with shock cord using the attachments that are there (on the ayamaya and the One Tigris). My other two quilts (Hammock Gear and Paria) both have pad straps, and I really like them. They make a big difference when it's a little chillier and are one of my favorite things about quilts! Given the weight for these what is the advantage over a sleeping bag? I already use my bags in the summer zipped open mostly replicating this style. Are these only targeted for hammocks? As always appreciate what you do. Your sticker looks lovely on my 2 burner propane stove.
Hey Dudly! thanks for your comment! That is an excellent question that I'll admit I didn't think about. I agree that at these weights I don't think there is a weight advantage for these quilts over a sleeping bag. But I do think the Ayamaya quilt is better and warmer than any sleeping bag I've tried for less than $50. And for me the quilt is more comfortable. I only have mummy sleeping bags, so opening them up all the way isn't quite the same. I do think that these are targeted at hammockers, but also work well for us ground dwellers. The other advantage to quilts for me is the straps, but none of these have any. I'm planning to try making my own with some shock cord. I like how the straps make it stay in place if I'm tossing and turning at night (which I often do...). Thanks for sporting the dose of dirt sticker! Always appreciate your comments!
Why not just unzip a sleeping bag and use it like a quilt? Genuine question. Coz like I reckon I could pick up a quality 2nd hand down bag for bargain and modify it to be a quilt?

Stick to your guns! But just know that I'll continue to tempt you with quilt reviews and comparisons... 😆 I don't think quilts work for everyone, but for me they are amazing. The biggest thing is turning around and changing positions. I just couldn't do it in a bag without a ton of effort, but in a quilt it's so much easier. I probably change sleeping positions 5-6 times during the night so this makes a big difference for me.
@@DoseofDirt I’m a back sleeper who sleeps like a corpse and doesn’t move 😂. You can’t even tell where I’ve slept in a bed some times because the 1/2 of a bed I use is completely untouched.
@@DoseofDirt You emphasise the 3rd syllable: eye-ah-MA-ya. Chinese doesn't really work that way, but if you emphase the 3rd syllable in English, that's close enough. And you got the sounds exactly right, it's "Ma", not "My" sound. The meaning is something like "Oh my goodness!!", like if you're surprised or in awe. To me it's a terrible, jokey "meme" name for a brand, but what do I know? 😆 And thanks for the great reviews!

I have the onewind xl quilt and am very impressed with it , I've also used it as a poncho sitting by the fire super nice quilt.

In hot summer I use a fleece liner, 750 grams. Or a couple fleece blankets at 250g each
I bought the onetigeress and it got a bit chilly. I almost took my poler fleece blanket but then it would have been quite bulky

Nice budget comparison Jeff! Have you tried either the Aegis Max or the Nature Hike bag/quilt? They're around $100, pack small, weigh around 19 ozs and can get you down to around 50 degrees.

@@DoseofDirt Nice! You can combo up a S2S liner to add 10-14 degs for around 8-9 ozs and still be lighter. I have the Nature Hike quilt/bag. Got it because of it's ability to open all the way up and use as a wrap sort of like your poncho here 🤣 I need to do more weather testing with it to really narrow in the comfort range.

I was wondering if anyone else would mention AegisMax. I got the Nano2 a couple years ago for $85. Since it doesn't have a hood, it can be unzipped and used like a quilt with a sewn footbox. Perfectly comfortable at 40 degrees, weighs 22oz. Unfortunately, it's pretty rare to find it that cheap these days.
The Enlightened equipment revelation apex 30 is in my opinion the best quilt under $200.
Thanks, Kyle! I've thought about picking up an enlightened equipment quilt, but ended up going with a Hammock Gear Econ Burrow for now. It was also $200. You can't beat the warmth to weight ratio of real down!

@@DoseofDirt I should have said best synthetic quilt. But I personally prefer synthetic as I don't like having to baby my gear (which you kind of have to do with down)
@@kylemckinney_22 Sometimes synthetic just makes more sense! You're right that you have to baby down. I find I never really think about my sythetic fill bags/quilts, but the down ones I stress out more about condensation, etc.
@@DoseofDirt Yeah I live in the blue ridge mountain area and it pretty humid most of the year, plus I use a single wall tent, so synthetic just makes sense for me.

Crazy, I could NOT do the fastenings behind your back thing, that is flawed. Ideally then, a square sleeping bag with a zip all of the way around that can open as a quilt is the way to go, I have one, Snugpak navigator.
Not the way to do it. Snap in front and stick your head through. I do it wearing a Bipap mask.
Should compare these to the Paria Thermodown quilts. Those Paria ones and the current king of the budget quilt crowd.
You read my mind! I think it would do well in the comparison but the Paria might have it beat on warmth. I also have Hammock Gear Econ Burrow that is rated for 40 degrees that I’m planning to compare. Been thinking about doing several videos comparing the nudge option to a more expensive option (quilts, backpacks, sleeping pads). Sometimes the budget option can be just as good AND save you tons of money!

That's awesome you have all 3 of those HG Econs. I have actually thought I would eventually have those same ones (40, 20, and 0). I think my next purchase will probably be the HG Econ Burrow zero degree. The price is insanely good for the weight and quality with DWR treated down!

You make the snap behind the neck look harder than it really is. Bring both corners to the front, snap it and stick your head through. I manage it with a full face mask Bipap and all the usual tubing so it can’t be that hard. I haven’t decided if I agree on the cinch cord up top or not. I can see some definite safety reasons NOT to have it especially given the kind of cord they use at the bottom.

Hi Jeff, Do any of the quilts have pad straps? It looks like you could fashion some kind of shock cord with the closures in the back, I also look for something like a draft collar around the neck and the cinch cord is vital to trapping in the heat. Thanks for the review :-)
Hey Darren! None of them have pad straps, which I was a bit disappointed by, but I have already tried a few things with shock cord using the attachments that are there (on the ayamaya and the One Tigris). My other two quilts (Hammock Gear and Paria) both have pad straps, and I really like them. They make a big difference when it's a little chillier and are one of my favorite things about quilts!

Given the weight for these what is the advantage over a sleeping bag? I already use my bags in the summer zipped open mostly replicating this style. Are these only targeted for hammocks? As always appreciate what you do. Your sticker looks lovely on my 2 burner propane stove.
Hey Dudly! thanks for your comment! That is an excellent question that I'll admit I didn't think about.
I agree that at these weights I don't think there is a weight advantage for these quilts over a sleeping bag. But I do think the Ayamaya quilt is better and warmer than any sleeping bag I've tried for less than $50.
And for me the quilt is more comfortable. I only have mummy sleeping bags, so opening them up all the way isn't quite the same. I do think that these are targeted at hammockers, but also work well for us ground dwellers.
The other advantage to quilts for me is the straps, but none of these have any. I'm planning to try making my own with some shock cord. I like how the straps make it stay in place if I'm tossing and turning at night (which I often do...).

You definitely could! It wouldn't quite be the same, but you could use it that way!

I don't think quilts work for everyone, but for me they are amazing. The biggest thing is turning around and changing positions. I just couldn't do it in a bag without a ton of effort, but in a quilt it's so much easier. I probably change sleeping positions 5-6 times during the night so this makes a big difference for me.
@@DoseofDirt I’m a back sleeper who sleeps like a corpse and doesn’t move 😂. You can’t even tell where I’ve slept in a bed some times because the 1/2 of a bed I use is completely untouched.

And you got the sounds exactly right, it's "Ma", not "My" sound. The meaning is something like "Oh my goodness!!", like if you're surprised or in awe. To me it's a terrible, jokey "meme" name for a brand, but what do I know? 😆 And thanks for the great reviews!
