- There are 28 countries in EU and Latvia has the highest percentage of citizens moving out of the country every year and highest in the world percentage of its population that is not allowed to participate in elections. I edited this video and I live in Latvia.
What's the point of this video? -to show Latvia's potential and motivate people to improve the country.
Also, I believe, people need to understand that the Title/Name (of anything) means nothing. It's the substance that matters.
I have received multiple death threats because of this video. This only reinforces my opinion about Latvia.

After reading the description initial hate from the title fades a bit. If Latvia has such potential, you should rename the title "the "worst" country in EU" hence you describe it as a nice country de facto, and the "worst" is the numbers.
Latvia really is a beautiful country. We just have some problems right now I (we) hope to solve soon.
the title is negative but the images are positive, so the video is neutral! a neutral video can have more impact than a one-sided positive or negative propaganda. What matters the most: the title or the video? I think it's best to form your own opinion and this video is just a small bit of information that might or might not help form that opinion.

judging from the comments below (and translation of them), it seems that the Latvians are more concerned with the country's image rather than the country itself. it seems that the video is intended to motivate people to improve the country. Criticising and hiding this video will only lead to hiding the country's faults before the world, but will not fix them.

Glwyf the problem with you, my friend,is that you are hopeless idealist. In an ideal world we would have rainbows flying out of our arses, in the world we're living in, if we gave citizenship to every illegal immigrant that arrived here during Soviet time in 1990, then this country would already be overrun by guys like those fighting for ''People's Republic of Donetsk''. These people ARE ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS, THEY ARRIVED HERE ILLEGALLY, nobody is giving illegal Mexicans in USA citizenship without naturalization or to Arabs in France. Go apply for citizenship, pass the test and get the passport. Voila. I have a friend who did that, with relative ease. It's not a human rights problem, it's political problem because Russian government wants these people to stay in the limbo, they provide them benefits such as no visa to go and visit relatives or study in Russia and money, so that this issue would still be alive.
Regarding economic problems of Latvia, look the fuck around the region and I ask you- how many ex-USSR countries can you name that do much or at all better?? Or perhaps is Poland, Hungary doing much better??
These are not issues, these are realities of life. There are no simple cure to overnight turn Latvia into the economy like Finland's or even the Czech (even just for the simple reason that Czech neighbours are a bit different than ours), and giving citizenship automatically to ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS won't solve any issues. These people have to decide where they belong, many have already made the choice one way or another.
I'm Latvian, and I'm pretty fucking sure, with this, you will not ''motivate people to improve the country.'' However, you will piss off random people you don't know and maybe even end up stoping one or two people that think of heading here because of how negatively you describe it.
Then again, my opinion.

Everybody moves out because we dont have a lot of jobs and the money that you get from jobs is smaller than a lot of other places but Latvia is very beatifull and we have our own launguage and the only reason i would move out of Latvia would be if had some money problems

This is kinda sad... I dont see many people often playing on streets. Everyone has computers. Seeing these beautiful pictures makes it sad. By the way, I am Latvian.
It is the worst country in EU , because it has the worst management. I do not understand the people too want it to be that way or just used to it . Or they know other countries are living better. But one thing is sure, the other countries that went extinct had similar story as Latvia . Rest is history!

I just wonder what would be the reaction of American people if everyone living in the country (including illegal immigrants) were allowed to vote in its elections, the same for other countries. And yes, Latvia's aliens ARE ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS because they arrived here without the consent of Republic of Latvia and its citizens, So they have a special status that in no way discriminates them regarding ability to work, and they can if they so choose obtain Latvia's or another country's citizenship if they wish so.
I will not even discuss people leaving the country, because we have open borders, cheap airline tickets and salaries in other EU countries that are several times higher than here. People will leave, If it costs 30 euros to go to London and work for 4 times the money they get here, people will leave. Nobody can do anything about it on the spot, only with time with economic situation improving.
the illegal immigrants that you speak of were allowed to vote, once. it happened during the referendum for the independence of Latvia from USSR in 1991. then after Latvia gained independence all people who didn't speak latvian were refused citizenship and were stripped of their voting rights. now you call these people illegal immigrants even though many of them are born in this country and helped Latvia gain independence. they didn't arrive to the republic of latvia it was vice versa. you are a xenophobe and a bigot.

My sister was born in Latvia and also an "illegal immigrant". I speak Russian, but I don't feel any connection to Russia just like an Australian or American who speaks English would not feel much connection to England. I wasn't able to find work in Latvia because I didn't speak Latvian, so I started working on the internet. If I was given Latvian citizenship and was allowed to work I would bring much more money to Latvian economy in taxes than now by working on the internet. There are many people like me who are not welcome in Latvia, but we cannot go live to another European country because only citizens are allowed to leave Latvia. And the citizens do leave and it's very probable that in the future there will be more "illegal immigrants" than citizens. How's that for a good country?

Feeling offended eh? Well, that's at least something. I doubt however that you've done much to improve the situation. We thrown away all opportunities that this country had, for nothing. Now we even thrown away our own currency in favor of a colored paper. Latvia wanted to be independent so much..... and what have we done with this independence? We tossed it away like a trash. I've once been a patriot of this country and it's a pain to see where it is going. Latvia is a land of slaves, a place where free will comes to die..... This country is beyond saving.
