El guitarrista de Brasil Luiz Bonfá compuso en 1959 el tema Manhã de Carnaval, para la película Orfeo Negro., tema sobre el que improvisan magistralmente aquí estos tres formidables guitarristas.
Great memories of this from an ancient TV broadcast. I always thought both Larry and John sounded at their best on those Ovation steel strung instruments. I've only ever tried a couple of Ovations and found them rather awkward to hold and difficult to play, goodness knows how these two could play this astonishing stuff on them and make them sound so phenomenal.
John is very good but there are a hundreds of guitarist at the same level of better one sample Paco de Lucia jose Feliciano the people call him " virtuoso" and many many more.
Just a little word of advice. If you want to hear the "real" Paco de Lucia, as composer, just search in youtube or Spotify, etc, his songs from 1972 to 1974, perhaps 1975. IMO, that was his prime time as composer, but each one can decide after listening to him in those years. It was a time when he had matured his flamenco roots and was making his own "flamenco", well beyond other guitarists. After that epoch, he was opening his music to other styles, but, again IMO, his compositions became less deep. And, of course, the "covers" dont make him justice.
I certainly don’t think Paco’s to too intense here. To me Larry’s solo part in the middle was borring, too obvious. John’s part right after, at 5:11 was simply sublime. So emotional, so present. Paco’s sound is so unique. I think he is the most outstanding virtuoso guitar player in the past 50 years
@@bird-land2169, thanks for your answer : that might have been before the trio with Al Di Meola & Paco de Lucia then... I saw John Mac Laughlin with Shakti during the summer of 1976 I think...That was a fantastic concert, my best live musical experience (as part of an audience)... Larry Coryell was there too : he played a solo gig that night (after Weather Report ans before Billy Cibham and George Duke...). Herbie Hancock closed the show...One doesn't forget this kind of concerts ! Shakti was better than great.
For many years I watched this and thought Larry Corryell was the weakest link compared to the trio with Di Meola. But now a bit older I can hear him and his unique style.
Coryell was the best of them all … his musicianship being the most challenging and versatile, especially compared to Di Meola, who is quite boring to me.
Corryell had encyclopedic knowledge and versatile and eclectic playing . Hi fusion period is not my cup but He would remain a legendary guitarist and MUSICIAN .
Amazing to hear John McLaughlin and Larry Coryell playing together. Was not familiar with Pace De Lucia, incredible as well. Not impressed at all. Wes Montgomery runs rings around this kind of pretence. This not beautiful at all. There’s enough of the 95% to keep ‘em in shoe leather.
Artist like Luiz Bonfa, Charlie Byrd , play this correctly. This doesn't have a latin feel to it. With all the improv fro m their fusion playing they don't cut it. It's not Bossa Nova. Samba. Though they have great chops, They can't cut it with Latin Jazz music. To much over doing it. Gottah take your time and feel it emotionally.
Just to see that both Paco and Larry are not with us. My heart crys.
A beautiful arrangement.
I LOVE these guys - and then there was one. Still hard to believe.
RIP Larry, RIP Paco, God bless John...♥♥♡
Thanks for this video. These are 3 great guitarists, each with their interpretation of this famous Brazilian music by Luis Bonfa.
Keith Richards said one day "there are many guitarists and above there is Paco de Lucia"
Great jazz from all players, John is still my all time favourite!

warum, weil es so geil ist.
R.I.P. Larry Coryell
Anybody knows when this was recorded, and if this trio comes before or after the one with same other two plus Al Si Meola instead of Larry Corryell
I think 1978, when I was on concert, but in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

Luis Bonfa composed this song for the movie Orfeu Negro
Too much testosterone: John McLaughlin couldn't play the head of Manha da Carnaval without resorting flashy virtuosic scalar flourishes
Es bueno pero creo que la versione live di Jose Feliciano es la mejor ua-cam.com/video/8vP2hVjgYW8/v-deo.html
