Henry T Elrod was my grandmothers uncle. He had 4 other brothers, two of which were pilots, both K.I.A. As well. One during pearl harbor, and another during iwo jima. He was a hell of a marine and a hell of a pilot as you can see. (5.56 he's a badass) he had a ship named after him as well, USS Elrod.
Henry Elrod was my Great Uncle from Georgia. There is a Ship named after him stationed in Norfolk Naval Base. It is the USS Elrod (FFG-55) and it is deployed very often and has served 'Her Country' very proudly. We should ALL be proud of her service and more importanty the men & women that serve on 'her'. Thank God for Henry T. Elrod, the USS Elrod, her crew and especially God Bless America.
I went through Wake one or two times a month during the '60s on Navy C-130s that refueled there. It was interesting to prowl around the island and look at the old rusted out gun emplacements and pill boxes with Japanese graffiti inside. I also took a walk through the area of the island that was teeming with tern and other sea birds right after seeing the Hitchcock movie, The Birds. The are very protective of their nesting sites, and it was real spooky having them circle and snap at me. And we used to fish for butterfly fish on the old bridge connecting the islands. One we have a wild a$$ crew member who jumped out of a rowboat we were on an latched on to a huge sea turtle for a ride in the lagoon.
No Zero's or dive bombers were used in the initial air raids, only Nell and some Betty bombers due to the long range. Only with the Japanese aircraft carriers arriving were Claudes being used.
Interesting reading are the bios of some American survivors from Wake Island, who were taken prisoner and survived the entire experience of Japan's atrocious treatment of them. Both civilian construction crews who were there and the achingly few military who survived the Japanese prison camps, the medical experiments on the Americans after transferring them to Japan and surviving the murdering of prisoners by the Japanese as the war wound down. Game playing cheapens the cost of those who lived thru thet war.
How do you vs betty bomber and those battleships and destroyers i have like 4 missions until this Wake island cangpain sorry very bad at spelling. Please respond and always have a nice day
All music comes from DVDs, especially for videos use, where the particles contain only numbers and no names. I look for a suitable piece, but don't know the name.
I think the best way it to have an AI plane fly a set way point over/around the island to have a more of a smooth view of the island. If you want to make it look cool you can speed up the time.
The story i heard is he fought on the ground once the Japanese landed, he went down hosing a advancing line of enemy soldiers with a Thompson, "Gangster" style before they plunged their bayonets into him.
Danny Sinclair On December 4, 1941, Captain Elrod flew to Wake Island with twelve aircraft, twelve pilots, and the ground crew of Major Paul A. Putnam's fighter squadron, VMF-211. Hostilities in the air over Wake Island commenced on December 8, 1941. On December 12, he single-handedly attacked a flight of 22 enemy planes and shot down two. He executed several low-altitude bombing and strafing runs on enemy ships; during one of these attacks, he became the first man to sink a warship, the Japanese destroyer Kisaragi, with small caliber bombs delivered from a fighter aircraft, dropping the bombs onto the destroyer's stern, causing the depth charges to explode.
They had 4 planes in the air, 8 just sitting on the island that were bombed and destroyed. They knew Pearl island was attacked by the Japanese. Why didn’t they have at least 4 of the planes in standby.

Nice video! Did you make the skins or you downloaded them?
i miss this game...
The Alamo of the Pacific! And they were U.S. Marines!
What's the name of the music track from 6:24 to the end of the video?
All music comes from DVDs, especially for videos use, where the particles contain only numbers and no names. I look for a suitable piece, but don't know the name.
nice history lesson.
@AAAZ2A the game in the end looks like "Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault"
what MODs do you habe for IL-2 ?
This video was without mod, just since "The Black Death" is with HSFX.
Where do you get that map?
I would like to where one might be able to procure the skins featured in the production.
Timur Romanovich The video is from 2011, I don't remember where the skins came from!
Ahh, ok.
The one thing we should never forget is the lifes given for the defense.
No, but I really recommend getting one. It's almost impossible to do even basic manouvers, let alone hit anything trying to fly with a keyboard.

So we are talking about maps. I made a map for QMB based on this video, but I want to play it the game says Data file corrupt! Can somebody help me?

Captain Elrod was mortally wounded while protecting his men who were carrying ammunition to a gun emplacement, on December 23, 1941.
thank you. i felt like you didnt tell his story enough. if you ever redo the video, make sure to fix that. great vid tho overall.
