Rin escaped her capture in the mist based on Madaras doing and was pursued along with Kakashi while Obito was orchestrated by Madara to go help his comrades.. Rin, knowing she had the Bijuu inside of her plunged herself at kakashi while he had a chidori activated killing her through the heart with one shot.. she gave up her life so her village could survive.. a true warrior.. But also Madara was able to brainwash Obito into becoming a mad man.. 😅😅 I swear Naruto has such deep and thoughtful character development 😋🥷
Kakashi didn't sacrifice her tho, he was ready to take on all the attackers or die trying, she's the one who got in his attack's way, sacrificing herself to save the village

The Hidden Mist Village captured Rin and turned her into the 3 Tails Jinchuriki. Kakashi managed to rescue her, but in reality the Hidden Mist Anbu that were watching Rin let Kakashi rescue her. Their plan was to release the 3 Tails once Rin reached Konoha, but as they were running away, Rin realized what they were up to and doubled back. Kakashi chased after her and the two of them ran into the Hidden Mist ninja that were chasing them. Kakashi activated Chidori and was about to stab one of the Hidden Mist ninja when Rin suddenly appeared in front of him and took the full brunt of Chidori. For reference, Obito mentions this to Kakashi when they were in Kamui's dimension.
