I’m in flat right now with starlink. Not much left of the town. I wish I could time travel back a bit. Even photos from a couple of years ago go would be cool. If you took any photos while out there, feel free to show me. I would love to see it.
Those pilots are very well skilled. How do they manage to keep that beast aligned in the center of the runway while taking off with that windshield pointed to the skies?
My great grandfather was a miner there for many years and my grandparents used to teach school in Flat. Would love to find people who know the history!
I spent some time there in the early 1980’s with the Fullerton men and they were still wide open mining. Attended the 4th of July there in the old Moose Hall lodge. I think it was 1982. A man came walked a day into town with his two sons and we airdropped puppy food to his wife and newborn out in the bush. She was taking care of home while the boys went to the big city to meet people and celebrate the 4th. They had never seen firecrackers, pop bottle rockets or any woman other than mom. Pure innocence about 9 or ten years old. I have a lot of stories about Flat. I would rarely get time off in the summer season from being a helicopter mechanic to fly out there with my roommate Tad Fullerton. His dad and uncle were running the mine. Great memories. The neighbor had a Swedish name and he stayed there year round. Tad had a sister that was a lawyer in Berkeley California for the public defenders office and another that was a goldsmith jeweler. She got married in Flat and on that day population was 24. When I was there in the summer it was usually 6. There is a lot of real cool little stories. Contact me. I want to go back someday. I actually would love to get it up and running again and make it a destination experience. Most of the equipment there will still run given some TLC it doesn’t corrode. Providing it hasn’t been picked apart. They were still using the 1800’s machinery. I asked how long it would take to get the dredge running and the old man John Fullerton said one or two days. He had last sat in the operators chair in 1969. I could go on and on...
Dennis Gruba You know Tad? I work with him in Fairbanks. I went back to Flat this past June and spent almost a week out there exploring. Spent a few nights in the Moose Lodge.
@@dennisgruba4792 If you use Facebook, I created a Group called "Flat, Alaska - History & Stories." It's just me so far but maybe we can use it to share stories? See if you can find it and request an Invite.

Grew up there in the 80’s and 90’s. Was last there in 2016. Not much left of the town it was a few decades ago, but I imagine it’s pretty steadily rotted away since the 30’s. It was an interesting place to grow up, though.
Excellent departure - really well flown. I hope your career in aviation is going well!

Hey Alex! looks like fun, love to tag along in a Dc-3
I love it. Will never forget DC3 flying with Jody Pond and Angela Drennan and George.
Hermoso este avión Saludos desde Hermosillo, sonora .
That's so cool
can I come and fly for you, love the DC3
The good ones make it look easy.
come on guys where the hell is the engine sound ???
recorded through headset
Cool, but feels odd with no engine sounds.
I agree. Didn't realize it at the time...
I wouldn’t say it’s “ALL” without engine sound (:
Runway not being seen, side location cam
Fun Fun Fun !
How short is that "runway"?
No very. Lynden has brought the L100 in. Its plenty long
I think it’s about 3500 ft. C-130s and DC-6s had no problem.
God bless the old Douglas Racer
This wouldn't happen to be N28TN of recent PAMR arrival fame, would it?
No
Much prefer to hear the sounds of engines.
Roarrrrrrrrr.... Roarrrrrr..... Roarrrr....Roar....rrrrrrrrrr
