Hiking the Howe Sound Crest Trail in Vancouver

  • The West Lion is a sketchy scramble on the Howe Sound Crest Trail. Along with its sister, the East Lion, the pair forms a distinctive nub in the landscape that any avid backpacker would recognize. Definitely one of the more questionable hikes I've been on.
The most intersting moment came when we met a 92 year old man strolling along the treacherous trail like it was nothing. I thought "I'd be pretty happy to not be 6ft under or in a wheelchair at that age." Then he said it was his gazillionth time up here and I was like dang respect.

Hi, amazing video! Was wondering what you usually bring for an overnight hike

Thanks! I usually have a sleeping mat and bag, stove and pot, tent, water filter, headlamp, and alcohol. Also bring some warm layers cuz it gets somewhat chilly at night, especially on the mountains

Photography nicely done. I climbed this, 46 years ago. We came up the back way, through a field of devil's club, with no trail, just straight up to the hollow between the two Lions, where we camped. There was nobody else there. Strange to see it becoming a kind of running-shoe and shorts attraction. BTW, Howe Sound is pronounced "How", not "Howie". :) (I was an English teacher; can't help myself!)

Wow that's a lot of bushwacking, props to you.
I feel like everybody I've met has said "Howie" but I'll keep this in mind
