Can you elaborate on your timeline? You hit the Canada border but was denied due to lack of a COVID test. You went to Seattle, flew to Alaska (OutdoorChefLife), flew back (?), made it through the Canadian border and drove to Alaska?

Great van guys!! and wow awesome camp spot. Enjoy Alaska!!! Jocelyn try rubbing powder deodorant on your mosquito bites to dry it out. Hydrocortisone for the itchiness and top it off with deo (powder though, not the gel kind).

Is the Alcan all paved yet? I drove down in the early 80’s and it was gravel and dirt. I was told to bring gas cans with me but never had to use them due to good mileage in my Toyota mini pickup. Good luck on your adventure. Do not be in too much of a hurry to see bears. Be careful what you wish for.

That is outstanding gas mileage, all things considered. But I'm curious what kind mpg you get in California as opposed to OR and WA. When I did my trip to Canada a few years ago, my mpg was much lower in CA. I think the quality of gasoline outside of CA is much better.

The Sprinter uses diesel, which is (essentially) identical everywhere in North America. Reformulated gas does have 1-3% less mileage due to the fact that the ethanol blended in reduce smog and fumes also has less energy density.

I suffer from those awful bites also. My hubby is so lucky - never gets bitten.
I use "StingEze MAX Bug Bite Relief - 0.5 oz Pen" from Amazon.
As soon as you're bitten, dab/daub some on the bite & area around the bite.
      No swelling or itching.
I actually forget that I've been bitten!
      Hope this helps!

My parents with another family drove up the ALCAN highway from the San Francisco Bay Area in the summer of 1951, each family in its own station wagon. Ours was a 1950 Oldsmobile. I was ten years old. We set up a camp tent every night, except for one of the first nights in Glacier National Park, where it rained on us. After that it was a tent everywhere. This trip took about six weeks up to and through Alaska with side trips to Lake Atlin, Haines, and McKinley National Park (via rail). We returned by the SS Alaska Steamship with the our in cargo. I can still see in my mind (memory) so much of the scenery.

But there is a revenge! Just think how many will get spattered on the front of the windshield ! Mosquitoes, black flies, and bears oh my ! I think that maybe the further north you go the more your going to enjoy, just remember your not in Kansas anymore, it’s wild country up there , be careful and enjoy ! 👍🏼🎣

hobie came out with updated itrac inflatable pedal drive kayaks.. 9 or 11ft..easy to transport.. can even check it as luggage on airlines :) might be an easier option for travel kayaking, hope you enjoy Alaska .. i grew up there, and 40 years later and i still put a dark cloth over my eyes to sleep every night, even tho i was much younger, i remember a bit of the drive up the yukon trail.. during winter ... our heaters actually froze up and we had to have a mechanic work on it .. i believe that was in whitehorse

hey y'all, this is coming from someone who drives in love bug country lol, an easy way to get the bugs off the van is to fill a spray bottle with hydrogen peroxide, let it soak for a minute then rinse and sponge off, shouldn't have to scrub too much at all. on the windshield use the same solution and a kitchen scrubby thingy.

I live in AK and just got back from a halibut fishing trip in Seward. I have never caught a halibut but I managed to get one on that trip, as well as four rocks with one being a prickle back, two silver salmon, a ling cod, two flounder (tossed back) and a skate (tossed back). The whole time I was thinking of your show cause I had never caught these kinda fish.
Also the Captain had a sticker on the boat that said no bananas. We laughed but he was serious. We had a bundle that we had to leave on the dock. He told us later that the bad luck comes from 2 things. Bananas float so whenever people would come up on a ship wreck, they would only find bananas, and that they rot fast so it was considered bad luck to put them with your other fruit because they rot and start rotting all the other fruit. He said "I don't know the real reason, but we are about to go 18 miles out in 10 foot swells and I aint takin any chances" haha

Hi. So glad you made it through Canada, wish things had been less restrictive but hopefully that is coming. You surprised me with a comment about the coffee being pretty good. Here in the Midwest Canada when we drive into the US we find the coffee and tea very weak/mid. Maybe on the west coast of US your coffee is stronger like ours. Tim’s is good but also try the Canada McDonalds coffee it good too. Hopefully the rest of your trip will be better and your return through Canada goes smoother. It’s a shame you can’t travel more in Canada it’s a beautiful country. Steve

    • @TaklyntheWorld
      @TaklyntheWorld  3 роки тому +1

Tea in cafes in the US is definitely not great. :( Some spots in the bay area do a good job though but they're pretty rare. We'll hopefully be able to stop at cafes for coffee on the way down, if things are less restrictive.
