The little girl represents army
The background vocals is Chris Martin from Coldplay and his son. Coldplay are good friends with BTS, Jin in particular. When Jin enlisted in the military, he asked Chris to help him write a song that would tell ARMy that he has to go away for a little while and he would be back.
Jin is the alien/astronaut. The little girl represents ARMY. Jin crashes on earth and he is waiting for his ship to be fixed. In the beginning, the question on the crossword puzzle that he can’t get is “family” because he doesn’t understand the concept. While on earth, he meets the girl and she teaches him about love and humanity. At the end, he tries to leave, but misses ARMY and has to go back to her. That is when he is able to complete the crossword puzzle.

1. As for writing songs to your fans before enlisting, pretty stupid to say only one person is allowed to do that. Not that D.O. was the first to do that, not even close. A lot of Kpop artists have done stuff for their fans as a goodbye before enlisting.
2. Astronauts getting stuck in space is a concept that has been done to death in all forms of media long before any member of EXO was even born. In this video though, Jin is not an astronaut, he is an alien, and he is not stuck in space.
3. A whale in space is also not a new concept. Even Futurama did that, again before EXO. Though there isn't even a whale in this video so, pairing that with your lack of understanding of the storyline, I'm not sure you even watched it.
I also have no problem with reuse, which EXO often does. BTS does not think they are doing some massive new thing, that's just your jealousy warping your view. They always openly discuss their inspirations. Always try to think for yourself instead of buying in to your fandoms conspiracy theories. You don't have to love something so much that you hate everything else. Though you can't possibly love your precious Exo that much if you're dragging their friends.

Like people said a lot in the comments, the girl represents army. It's very important to know that this song was a gift from Jin to us before he went to the military, being the first member to do so - and even when we all knew it was coming for years and then for an official statement, it was still something totally new and scary in a way.
So this song is about how important army is for him, and something that I really like is the scene when Jin is helping the little girl to ride a bike. He's holding her the entire time so she can feel safe, but once he feels like she's fine on her own, he lets go from the bike. The little girl keeps riding, so Jin cheers and, for the first time in the MV, he smiles. It doesn't necessarily have a deep meaning, but it's a scene that is really close to my heart.
The little girl is army. There are so many Easter eggs in this video. Chris plays the newscaster on tv. The guitar was given to Jin by Chris. There is Braille in the crossword and on Jin’s neck. The drawing of Jin in the plaid suit goes back to a picture of Jin as a little boy. The truck that Jin got into was also used in the Run video. Check out the wall behind his bed, there are meanings in those pictures. The drawing of earth and a home shows that earth is now his home and it was army who taught him to love. Jin reached out to Chris Martin before he enlisted and asked him to help him write a song. Background vocals include Chris. Jin flew over 30 hours from S Korea to join Coldplay to perform this song in Argentina. Can you imagine the jet lag? He stayed there a week to help recoup and then flew back again. In the crossword it says MOON. That's one of Jin's songs. In an interview he referred to himself as the Moon and Army as the earth because the Moon's rotation is synchronized with the Earth in a way. The same way BTS & ARMY have a symbiotic relationship and rotate round each other. It's a beautiful love letter full of easter eggs. For example, there's the guitar in the bedroom that Chris Martin gave to Jin as a gift. The age of the girl is the same age as ARMY (BTS debuted 10 years ago and that's when ARMY was created), the blacked out spaces on the crossword spell FOR ARMY in braille. He has a tattoo (fake) on his name that spells ARMY. The grey suit at the beginning of the video is a replica from a photo of Jin as a little boy, dressed in a similar suit. The sound of the bell ringing at the end of the video, is ARMY waiting for Jin to return from Military Service. BELL was also the runner up name for the fandom before ARMY was chosen. This was Jin's farewell to ARMY, the little girl represents us. Yes, he's the alien, and he had a chance to return to his planet when the spaceship came back to life but stayed after all. If you zoom in on the crossword you get a lot of clues. He also has "ARMY" in braille on his neck. Jin is so absolutely beautiful in this MV! Plus his soaring vocals!! He flew all the way to Argentina to perform this song with Coldplay (did you notice Chris Martin in the MV?) before enlisting. It's totally heartwarming to watch the video of that, make sure you hear Chris's remarks before the song if you watch it.
The others already explained it well. I would also add that everytime you see kids in BTS' videos they're there to represent ARMY. The newspaper has many things related to Jin, ARMY and his previous songs (mainly "Moon" which is another Jin's song dedicated to the fans - ARMYs are also often referring to Jin as our Moon because of that). Crossword puzzle is intentionally filled in kinda weird to catch your attention because the black squares use Braille alphabet to spell "for ARMY". When he decides to stay on Earth in the MV, on his neck a "tattoo" shows that spells "ARMY" in Braille as well. The final touch is him filling the "family" in the crossword, looking straight into the camera and nodding, basically saying "yeah, it's you too" which is a cherry on top, making it probably one of the most touching songs that were ever created for any fandom. Making of for this MV is very fun to watch, Jin basically explains the meaning of every scene as well.

So the girl in the mv is representing the ARMY, as the little girl's age is around the fanbase's age. In the MV I think Jin is an alien whose space ship crashed and he was stranded on earth. He stays for sometime on earth and makes lots of beautiful memories and in the end when he can return back to space to get home he turns back as he doesn't want to.

Astronaut means a "trained space pilot" or a "star traveller" (the latter fitting Jin in more ways than one I'd say 😉). It's just that we tend to think of the (human) job title but in reality an astronaut could be from anywhere.
It all ties into Jin's solo song Moon where he's our Moon and we (ARMY) are his Earth.
There are a ton of easter eggs in the MV, like the girl's purple helmet, the black squares in the crossword spelling FOR ARMY in braille, his tattoo says ARMY, Jin's truck from the storyline, Chris Martin's cameo, Chris's guitar that he gifted Jin, the bell(1) at the end and so much more....
(1) One of the fandom names considered was BELLS as in alarm bells. Thank goodness they chose ARMY in the end. 😅 And you should hear some of the stage names they considered and thankfully disgarded. As an example I honestly can't imagine calling Jimin "Baby J". 😆😂

The video the little girl is ARMY but also represents the best most innocent loving part of humanity the alien has fallen in love with. There are several BTS MVs that have a little girl in them, Make It Right, ON, and this one. J-Hope also has a child at the beginning of his On The Street MV, but he chose to have a little boy. The children always represent ARMY. This MV has so many Easter eggs, it's difficult to name them all. Jin uses braille in this MV. The black spaces in the crossword puzzle spell "For ARMY" and when he watches his ship leave, he has ARMY on the side of his neck. ARMY is also one of the words in the crossword puzzle at the end. Jin, the astronaut from another planet, doesn't know how to laugh or smile and the girl teaches him that. You should watch the content of them making the song My Universe. It’s so wholesome and awesome.

I also recommend you check out the live performance of this song as well as a live performance with English subtitles of Jin’s song Epiphany. Epiphany is one of my favorite BTS songs, but the music video for it is only a trailer and not the full song. I also really love Jin’s solo song Moon.
