as a guy whose been playing the game for about 5 years your videos are still really informative and easy to digest. looking forward to seeing more of your content!
What a great channel discovery! Soothing and calming voice, great music choice, makes you want to listen throughout the full video. Thanks for making these
thanks! and glad you enjoyed the music!! I actually wrote the music myself haha; I have a music degree funny enough and what better way to use it then to make a UA-cam backing track XD
I love the Segundo Volante + Regista combination or double Volantes even. Have been using them for years and it is nice to see someone explain the role and how you utilize it. I also want to point out that long shots are quite nice for the role, especially if you play with low/mixed crosses. The Volante will arrive late in the box, right at the time when your WB is looking to cut the ball in to the edge of the box.
What's funny is that as I was getting the screen grabs for Emre Can, I was like, I should probably mention "long shots" when I do the talking head. Funny how I never did haha. Anyway, great tips and thanks for adding!
@@Kelso66I personally use the anchor combined with the SV, in the early buildup, they can act as a double pivot, but the nearer you are to the opposition box the more the SV will support the attack , getting quite a few assists for me. The Anchor will prove as a good backup working with my central defenders in case something goes wrong
Where have you been all these years, i am playing this games since it was championship manager 03 and the years have just overrun the simplicity. Now i know what those complex roles do. Thank you so much for this content and i hope you do this for every role. Love you, bye!
glad they're helping out!! and yea sometimes the more complex roles can be really challenging to figure out what they actually do (and maybe more importantly how they interact with others).

Compared to all the saturation of mediocre UA-cam videos that have become our daily lives, these videos definitely deserve more than 1k likes. I particularly enjoy your calm and relaxed delivery. Thank you for creating this content. The information and commentary shared has definitely proven helpful. And even for the roles that I doubt I'll ever use; I still enjoy watching those videos, because it's simply an enjoyable watch.

hey, been digging a lot of FM24 contents recently to recall my memories. one or two day after i started, your channel pops up and really really helpful for me that had been on a fm hiatus for some times. great job and can't wait for my daily notifications of your posts!!
I am new to this channel and its definetly not the last time i will watch your videos, they are simple and effective. Its just great how you can explain so easily without making it difficult to understand. I would love to see you reacting to different tactics and mentalities with them as i just know that my tactics are not balanced and wanna know how to actually make them even better
Glad the videos are helping!! And thank you for the compliments! I've been working on a video about Mentality, but I know the whole thing can be confusing. One thing to try when making a tactic: put the players into a formation that you think would work together but don't use any tactical instructions. Then, watch the first 15-20 minutes of a match. What happens when you have the ball? Do you wish you retained possession more? Do you wish you were more attacking? When the opponent has the ball, are you not pressing enough? Do you wish you were actually a little more defensive? Once you've got some observations, you can start adding in some tactical instructions. Schedule some friendlies against teams relatively close to you in scale (for example if you're a English Premier League team, schedule friendlies with teams in the championship/league one.) This is a great way to test out a tactics... hope this helps!

Favorite role this year has been the Segundo Volante as it is just absolutely incredible when you not only have the right player for the role, but also the perfect system to get the most out of it as well. I have used it quite a bit in my tactics lately, especially with asymmetric ones which I noticed you hinted at a little. The Segundo, I feel personally, is actually best suited to an asymmetric system that you end up leaving a gap open for them to run into. You can counter the *slight* defensive flaw by having a IWB move into his spot and even having a IFB on the opposite side to ensure you have a minimum of 3 in that back line which will help with the "aggressiveness" of the Segundo. Great video once again my friend! Keep it up!
Great call with the IFB to make sure you've always got a back 3 at least; perfect like you say to get that coverage. The asymmetrical space you mentioned reminds me a lot of when I dabbled in that kind of formation; I liked to try a shadow striker in the AM area offset with a DLF in the striker role. You get that kinda open space movement that was fun to mess with. And thanks for the compliment!! Love that you're adding to some good tactcial discussions!
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker I need to give your DLF video a watch today, always wanted to implement one and I think having it in a ASYM system would be perfect like you said having them offset with a SS alongside! Keep up the great work my friend!
fantastic video, i use in series C (third italian league) in my Pescara saves, a 433 with a DM and 2 volante and i’m literally killing the league, with a lot of goals scored and very low goals conceded. Btw fantastic video and fantastic channel format. Love from 🇮🇹!!!
Love those Italian lower leagues! Did a save with Palermo once. Some proper players in there. And two SV is an awesome idea, I defnitely need to do some more tactics with that
Another excellent job. You came to bring a breath of fresh air to the creation of content related to FM. Looking forward to seeing your perspective on creating a tactic from scratch. Will you resort to exploits to bypass the match engine (as most content creators do)??
Thank you! Between you and me, I actually don't know what the exploits are haha; all I remember is reading about the corner exploit from... last year I think it was?
thanks! and great idea; I've been looking to incorporate more how the roles interact with each other. Especially with the fun ideas you can do with positional play in FM24
For the regista I may need to go and find a historical database save so I can get Andrea Pirlo haha. Not sure if I'll find a better example of a reigsta
Recently discovered this channel through Omega Luke. And im glad I did its helped me create some fun and unusual tactics. Would you be able to cover the wide target forward role please? It's one I can't wrap my head around
Thank you and welcome!! For the Wide Target Forward, I don't have anything immediate comign out on the role, but I do plan on doing videos for that one an the normal Target Forward. Thank you for the suggestion!
Very informative video, i've been using a segundo volante recently and finding the right player profile was difficult, you need an all rounder, although i'll prefer a more defensive oriented player that can rely on my playmaker upfront if needed
thanks! so far I've been trying to hit the different position groups, but may have to do a F9 when the striker comes up again! I've had a few requests for it
Hey man. I binge watched all ur videos so far and I want to say u r doing an amazing job teaching different fm concepts. I love the way u explain everything concisely and ur display style! I would like to request u to make a video on training schedules for attack and defense if possible 😁 Because I have an all star squad but because of games every two days and my tactics require high intensity, I have to rest them most of the time without any training. When I put a slot of chance creation and another slot of chance conversion tho , they play unbelievably good. Not sure what is the best way to train them 😅
thank you! I appreciate the kind words and glad you're enjoying the game. I've gotten a couple of requests to make a training video, so maybe I'll get to work on one! Thank you for the suggestion. As for your issue, I do two things for top squads: the first is to send players on vacation routinely throughout the season. So one of my top players will go on a vacation maybe 2-3 times per season. This will keep them more rested throughout the season and fresh for training. The second, is make a second tactic that is very similar to your normal/high intensity one, but make it less intense. So let's say you're in the 35th minute and closing out the half, play the less intense tactic. Just something where your players aren't playing high intesity for all the matches, all the time (if that makes sense)
Interesting to see what different interpretations roles can sometimes offer, I never thought to try a strong type of player as volante. For me this is the role where I retrain a luxury number 10 which I don't like to use too much, so I see the volante as a playmaker-allround attacker type. I don't usually play with good enough teams to have someone sufficiently talented to be a volante but when I played Glory Hunter I used players like Musiala, Sergey Milinkovic Savic or Gavi for this role - the best one I ever tried in the role though was Xavi Simmons.
I like the stronger player for the defending purposes... little more effective when closing down the ball. But I find that playmaking player (like Xavi) really interesting... I'll have to try that some time!!
loved the explanation! off topic I wanted to ask what match speed you use while developing tactics and then throughout the season, as I have seen you show a lot of instances in your videos where not much of note happens in-game, but you use them as examples to garner information and better understand the tactic and your player roles.
Funny enough, tomorrow's video will show the exact settings I use for a match. But in the meantime, for my proper saves it's always 2D, full match, and then about 3/4 of the way for fast game speed. Full matches take around 30-40 minutes give or take
@ that’s some dedication man how long does it take you to play through a single season? It also explains the unique insights you are able to tell us about in your videos haha. Looking forward to the video!
side note, I LOVE the no-nonsense centerback. Some roles have confusing names, or confusion about what they do, love that the NNCB tells you exactly what he's going to do hahaha
you're welcome :) and the SV is a more aggressive B2B. The SV will get further into the penalty box when attacking and will drop a tad deeper when defending. While this makes the SV more of an attacking threat, the B2B is better at supporting attacks, since they're usually in the midfield helping out. But this would make for a really fun video I think!
You can make a video about player traits, show us what advantage we can get from each player traits or tell us which traits are good for each specific role. :p
There are plenty of videos explaining fm roles, what im missing how for example different midfield roles interact with defense lines or attacking midfielders. Lets say if I use dlp mezzala b2b, do i need bpd? Can i use two iwb? If you could shed a light this way, would be awesome. Doing great job btw! Love channell
The trait 'arrives late' is crucial for segundo volante. Without it, the player come up too early so the opponent caught him, a predictable surprise. With the trait, the player become unpredictable surprise as the opponent already busy with other chore.
So like a reverse 4-3-3? Two DM and a CM? I'd probably do something like a box to box midfielder or a central midfielder (on support/attack, depending what you have the SV on).
Not really used to the volante role, but I'm gonna guess one reason to not use the volante over a BWM would be because the volante's attacking tendencies could leave a gap in the midfield the opposition could exploit in counters.
Yep right on. You see in the video some of the SV runs puts him right next to the opponent goalie, this could definitely lead to him being caught out. One of the reasons why I like a holding defensive midfielder next to him
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker Thanks for the reply! I could definitely try incorporating volante/DM combo in my save. One final question: Is a CAM a good option to have in front of this volante/DM pairing?
@@spinyslasher6586 Absolutely! Try maybe an advanced playmaker or attacking midfielder (either one on support) with a SV on attack. The CAM will drop towards the midfield and will always have the SV and the DM as outlet passes. And a SV on attack will get you forward pressure, so you 've got a nice balanced midfield
Can you make a video about Anchor or Halfback because I would like to know differences between these two? Also video about mezzala would be useful too. I'm still relatively new player and your videos are really useful and thank you for that.
you're welcome, glad you are enjoying the videos and welcome to the game! Those are some great recommendations, and if it makes any difference i LOVE the halfback; it's an awesome role. Here's quick crash course: Anchor man: sits in the defensive midfield area. Plays it safe, will play short passes. Doesn't get pulled out of position. Great to use in combination with a segundo volante because of this. Halfback: in an attack, they actually drop back into the defensive line with the center backs. In a 4-3-3 formation, if you have the fullbacks pushing up, the halfback will drop into line with the centerbacks to make a back 3. This lets you be more adventurous with your two fullbacks as you have sufficient defensive cover. Both of these roles need attacking players in front of them. They're defensive, so try a support and attacking role in the midfield to pair with them. Hopefully this helps!
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker This is awesome explanation, thank you! I am currently using 4-4-2 narrow diamond and BWM on defend as my defensive midfielder, after reading your comment I think that Halfback is probably a better option, thanks once again.
Why are some attributes important despite neither being blue or green? I allways stick to the colored attributes. Is it the wrong way to play this game? Thank you for an amazing channel. I gain so much from your advice. 👍👍
thank you for the kinds words, and thank you for commenting :) and there's definitely no wrong way to play, that's the great thing about the game Some attributes I like even though they're not necessarily highlighted... (these next examples are necessarily for a specific role) but I like players with mental attributes like decisions and composure. So even though may not be specific to a role, I still like to look for them :)
a wide playmaker likes to drift inside and use a player who has good passing / vision. Something like an inside forward is usually more concerned with scoring where a wide playmaker likes to pass. A libero will play like a centerback when you're defending and then act like a midfielder when you're in possession. I plan to do a libero video in the (hopefully near) future so stay tuned!
Do you really play with your attribute colours not highlighted depending on the range?! I have never seen that before. If so, Is there a reason you have chosen to do that?
Ha it's funny you mention that, it's become so normal at this point I don't think I even noticed. I actually do play with color attributes but it's very subtle, basically a white/pink for high attributes, white/green for good, etc... but I think the video effect washes out the colors to make it the same. Sometimes I play with normal attribute colors, but often I like the subtle color attributes because it helps with readibility against a dark background.
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker I play with the classic gray for bad, white for average, yellow for good and green for great - so when you were bringing players up my brain instantly decided they were a terrible player but my eyes and ears were following to what you were saying so I think I had some sort of mini stroke in that moment 😂😂😂😂😂
Does more in the defensive area, and more in the attacking area. The SV's range is from one goalie to the other, aggressively closing down the ball and trying to score goals. The box to box's range is between the two penalty boxes (so not as expansive). The B2B is also less aggressive in the offensive end
I don't think the Enganche is in some of the upcoming videos. In the mean time, if you check out my video on the Possession Tactic, I use an Enganche in that one and talk about it
I still don't understand this role. To me, he is just a box to box midfielder that starts in the dm area. Why wouldn't you just play box to box in the first place?
The Volante is more of a transitional player, looks to carry the ball forward, pass quickly when you regain possession and be at the end of chances. The Box to box is more of a utility player, the Volante is an attacking threat from deep. And keep in mind that the Volante is a DM in defense which makes a huge difference

Excellent work Sir, would love to hear/view more about relationships like IWB and a MEZ or a BBM with a DLP and so on.
thanks! and great idea; I've been looking to incorporate more how the roles interact with each other. Especially with the fun ideas you can do with positional play in FM24
Great videos so far. Waiting for a Regista video.
Dude awesome work, totally loved it. Will you also make videos for the rest of positions like DM BPD AM?
Thank you and glad you enjoyed the video! And yep, the plan is to make my way to all the player roles! Slowly but surely lol
Very informative video, i've been using a segundo volante recently and finding the right player profile was difficult, you need an all rounder, although i'll prefer a more defensive oriented player that can rely on my playmaker upfront if needed
thanks! And yea same, I tend to drift towards the defensive rather than attacking and try to find those plays elsewhere
Well that explains it. 🤔Kickass concept explainer video good sir! 👑✨👍
glad you enjoyed it!!
another banger vid. waiting for the false nine!!!
thanks! so far I've been trying to hit the different position groups, but may have to do a F9 when the striker comes up again! I've had a few requests for it
Including a youth player to be formed into role X is a superb choice.
Hey man. I binge watched all ur videos so far and I want to say u r doing an amazing job teaching different fm concepts. I love the way u explain everything concisely and ur display style! I would like to request u to make a video on training schedules for attack and defense if possible 😁
Because I have an all star squad but because of games every two days and my tactics require high intensity, I have to rest them most of the time without any training.
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker Oh ok ur advice makes so much sense. Thank you bro!
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker give it a shot some day if you want to see DMs with double digits in goals and assists hehe
clear and understandable explanation~!
loved the explanation! off topic I wanted to ask what match speed you use while developing tactics and then throughout the season, as I have seen you show a lot of instances in your videos where not much of note happens in-game, but you use them as examples to garner information and better understand the tactic and your player roles.
Grate job man!
Thanks!!
Love it legend 🔥
Cool new background!
Your channel so your rules but would be great to get your interpretation of the Roaming Playmaker role 👍
Great video! I think RB Lipsk/Salzburg especially using volante in their 4222 and 442 diamond system's a lot
Thank you for the suggestion, I'll check out the tactic thanks!
Great video again, great channel. No-nonsense center back next? 👀
side note, I LOVE the no-nonsense centerback. Some roles have confusing names, or confusion about what they do, love that the NNCB tells you exactly what he's going to do hahaha
Great videos - thank you
Glad you enjoyed it
Great Video will definitely subscribe
Welcome aboard!
thanks for this great video , may i ask what is the difference between the Segundo Volante and the Box to Box player?
you're welcome :) and the SV is a more aggressive B2B. The SV will get further into the penalty box when attacking and will drop a tad deeper when defending. While this makes the SV more of an attacking threat, the B2B is better at supporting attacks, since they're usually in the midfield helping out.
But this would make for a really fun video I think!
Great Job 🎉
Thank you! 😁
Wonderful content.
thank you!
I find Segundo Volante’s work very well with a Libero on Defend.
Good call. Libero another underrated role
Love the videos
Nice vid with the detailed
Glad you enjoyed it
Thank you ❤❤
No problem 🙏🙏
You can make a video about player traits, show us what advantage we can get from each player traits or tell us which traits are good for each specific role. :p
love the idea; I do need to do something with player traits and which ones are good for each role
Great idea; I'll see if I can start incorporating some more ways the roles interact with the defense/other roles in future videos
The trait 'arrives late' is crucial for segundo volante.
Without it, the player come up too early so the opponent caught him, a predictable surprise.
With the trait, the player become unpredictable surprise as the opponent already busy with other chore.
Great addition; very true on the "arrives late" player trait. The perfect one for a role like the SV
love the videos
Very Informative ! What Midfield role would you suggest to put in front of the Segundo Volante in a 4-3-3, when u have a DLP (D) next to him ?
So like a reverse 4-3-3? Two DM and a CM? I'd probably do something like a box to box midfielder or a central midfielder (on support/attack, depending what you have the SV on).
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymakerThank you!
no problem! good luck and let me know how it works out!
great vid man. can you do a pressing forward or dlp guide next?
thanks! I'll see if I can get one of those two coming up soon
One final question:
Is a CAM a good option to have in front of this volante/DM pairing?
@@spinyslasher6586 Absolutely! Try maybe an advanced playmaker or attacking midfielder (either one on support) with a SV on attack. The CAM will drop towards the midfield and will always have the SV and the DM as outlet passes. And a SV on attack will get you forward pressure, so you 've got a nice balanced midfield
Wish you'd state which color/team you are when showing visual examples...
thanks for the suggestion! This was an early one of my videos, so the team identification is better in later videos :)
Thank you, keep going!!! Do Shadow striker
It feels like I love every role, but I do love the shadow striker haha. Benefits of an attacking midfield player and the strengths of a goal scorer
pls do a dlp or cf or
difference between IF and IW
been looking to do a video on IF vs IW!
Enzo Fernandez great volante
Can you make a video about Anchor or Halfback because I would like to know differences between these two? Also video about mezzala would be useful too.
I'm still relatively new player and your videos are really useful and thank you for that.
you're welcome, glad you are enjoying the videos and welcome to the game! Those are some great recommendations, and if it makes any difference i LOVE the halfback; it's an awesome role. Here's quick crash course:
Anchor man: sits in the defensive midfield area.
I am currently using 4-4-2 narrow diamond and BWM on defend as my defensive midfielder, after reading your comment I think that Halfback is probably a better option, thanks once again.
no problem! Let me know if that works for you!
Why are some attributes important despite neither being blue or green? I allways stick to the colored attributes. Is it the wrong way to play this game? Thank you for an amazing channel. I gain so much from your advice. 👍👍
thank you for the kinds words, and thank you for commenting :) and there's definitely no wrong way to play, that's the great thing about the game
Some attributes I like even though they're not necessarily highlighted... (these next examples are necessarily for a specific role) but I like players with mental attributes like decisions and composure. So even though may not be specific to a role, I still like to look for them :)
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker Thank you for your answer 😊😊
Can u post a video on how to develop young players? I can’t seem to get any improvements out of them 😢
great suggestion!
Can you explain Wide Playmaker or how you use a Libero (CB)
a wide playmaker likes to drift inside and use a player who has good passing / vision. Something like an inside forward is usually more concerned with scoring where a wide playmaker likes to pass.
A libero will play like a centerback when you're defending and then act like a midfielder when you're in possession. I plan to do a libero video in the (hopefully near) future so stay tuned!
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker but why is it called advanced playmaker on RW/LW but Wide playmaker on ML/MR
what do you think about double volantes on 4-4-2 formation?
I personally don't use two of them (I use an Anchor with a SV) but I do love the idea of two SV on the field at once haha
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker i see you would like the balance of your midfield, with double SV the midfield will be vulnerable
How the half back work with 3 at the back ?😅
haha yea probably could/should switch the role to an anchor man lol. Or switch the WCB to attack on that side to get him to drop
So its not good to put a half back in a back 3 or it can be good ?
Do you really play with your attribute colours not highlighted depending on the range?! I have never seen that before. If so, Is there a reason you have chosen to do that?
Ha it's funny you mention that, it's become so normal at this point I don't think I even noticed. I actually do play with color attributes but it's very subtle, basically a white/pink for high attributes, white/green for good, etc... but I think the video effect washes out the colors to make it the same.
Sometimes I play with normal attribute colors, but often I like the subtle color attributes because it helps with readibility against a dark background.
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker I play with the classic gray for bad, white for average, yellow for good and green for great - so when you were bringing players up my brain instantly decided they were a terrible player but my eyes and ears were following to what you were saying so I think I had some sort of mini stroke in that moment 😂😂😂😂😂
hahaha I totally get that. No wonder you were like "wow this dude is below average" XD
Raumdeuter pls
Raumdeuter next please!
great idea! Been looking for a winger position to do next
How is he different from Box to Box?
Does more in the defensive area, and more in the attacking area. The SV's range is from one goalie to the other, aggressively closing down the ball and trying to score goals. The box to box's range is between the two penalty boxes (so not as expansive). The B2B is also less aggressive in the offensive end
Make a deep lying playmaker video 🙏🏼
I enjoy the mystery of when the DLP video will finally arrive!
Yo can you do enganche
I don't think the Enganche is in some of the upcoming videos. In the mean time, if you check out my video on the Possession Tactic, I use an Enganche in that one and talk about it
I still don't understand this role. To me, he is just a box to box midfielder that starts in the dm area. Why wouldn't you just play box to box in the first place?
The Volante is more of a transitional player, looks to carry the ball forward, pass quickly when you regain possession and be at the end of chances. The Box to box is more of a utility player, the Volante is an attacking threat from deep. And keep in mind that the Volante is a DM in defense which makes a huge difference
great explanation!
I didn't know so many Americans like football. I always thought they are mostly only interested in their own sports
we're out here! There's been a bigger following (well big for America) of the sport in the last 5~ years. A lot of local teams have really awesome crowds; like in the USL leagues
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker That is cool to hear.
I am just writing to become written.
great video.
