Technical consultant: Joe Maser... Mechanic, Truck builder and racer. The man has forgotten more about 2 stroke Detroit motors than we will ever know.
Look up the Cornfield Corvette, he was making black smoke way before black smoke was cool...

I"m watching this with geat interest, I specialize in rebuilding two stroke Detroits especially the 8V-92m Green or silver. These guys are doing it right. It's good to see old tiimers working on things the right way!
I get the whole idea of not tearing into everything for a first start. That makes so much sense on so many levels.
Minimalism is way underrated. 🦉
Joe is unreal, the true old time mechanic.
Need more old time mechanics to teach their knowledge to new mechanics.
@@andrewbrenneman9592 bring back the industries.
Isn't that the truth Richard, he is the star of the show.
joe is A amazing mechanic teaching alot to his friend here
I’m glad to see there are some guys that respect the old detriots
Yeah big respect to loud noise and inefficiency.
I work on trucks for a living. I've had customers drag these old relics in the shop i work at to ressurect them. Most days I think they should have just left them in the junkyard they found them in. When you tear an engine down and find some wierd mix of parts a junk yard used just to get them running and " Saleable" you cuss the guy that did it.
Did you see them mouse nests flying, that was epic a true cold start.snookie pa.
Oh my gosh my favorite old school starter sound. It cranked right on over wow
You know one of the greatest mechanics alive no joke!!!!!!
Considering how it was stored up, that Detroit sounded pretty sweet.
He’s a pro master of them engines.
I bet he knows all the brands like that. Mechanics in the pacific north west states worked on a lot of big, cool machinery and trucks back in the logging hayday.
He can’t know that much he said bad head gasket and a Detroit doesn’t use a head gasket
Thank you for saying ENGINE and not MOTOR !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
IT'S ALIVE!!!!! I can't believe that engine started after all that and started so easily. That truck still wants to go. Oh God please don't part that truck out. Somebody out there has got to want it. I think Joe can make anything run. Broke the mold with him...
I love the yellow and black paint scheme on that cool old 359.
Boy I can't imagine how much that old skidder liked the sound of that chainsaw cutting the blackberries off of it!!!
Great to see these films, my father was a diesel mechanic and I can relate to the comments and advice Joe follows, if its not broken leave it, only touch the parts you need to. Great to see these videos and hope you all are safe away from this Covid issues! Keep up the great films!!!
Joe is one hell of a mechanic. I like watching the two of you working on these old Detroit's
That is aluminum frame they were always sleeved when the frame was that long, Had one in a 72 AutoCar .
Hi. I’m new to the show but so far I love the show. Great job on the start ups. Freddie from North Carolina. Proud trucker for over 26 years.
Been waiting to watch a proper "will it start" video, for a while. This was epic, can't wait to see more. Ps, I love Hanks channel as well 👍🏻 keep up the good work.
Great revival !!! Y’all work great together, can’t wait for more.
I love these old Detroits for this reason
"Intresting" is not a word.
O som desse motor é música para os ouvidos de quem gosta de caminhão. parabéns por ressuscitar essas lendas da estrada. Dionatan Brasil.
What a cool old truck and a sweet engine with it.Good find hope we see more of this one.Good work guys.
This gives me alot more confidence in my own 359 project!
That is a aluminum framed truck, be nice to see it up and on the road, it would make someone a nice ATHS truck!!! Be safe...God Bless!!
Thank you guys for everything you do keep it coming
Gray oil= water. I’d have to change the oil and all filters before going any further.
The frame was sleeved in like that so it could be plumbed in to haul a pup trailer.
Nice job getting it running
I'm impressed. That mechanic truly knows his old Detroit Diesels. Sitting like that for all these years and just bangs off like she right out of the gate after a few hours under this man's talented fingers. I'd like to have that truck and restore it to become a wrecker with a Holmes 750 on it. What a looker she would be.
He knows so much but says it’s got a bad head gasket ? Detroits don’t use head gaskets
The mushrooms are keeping the rabbit in the truck.
No more torn mushrooms!!!!!
When I was young n dumb I had to rebuild a 4L53T Detroit in a C-60 Chevy straight truck. It ran when I finished. Just had a struggle getting it tuned right. That engine had gas dumped into the tank and it hammered the wrist pin bearings out of the rods. Had nearly no oil pressure when I tore it down. Replaced everything.
Thank you for your. M c service
Great old trk an love the old Detroit
I had 6 v 92 years ago ran great
Just marked its spot everywhere
It stopped keep it up guys great job !!!!
I'm impressed that the old truck ran so well. Sounded really good.
Damn love that sound of Detroit diesel, when I was in the Army had one in 109a6. Loved that engine and miss Army life and the brothers I served with.
Automatic subscription type of channel. A feller can really appreciate a will it start video!
Coolant in the oil was evident on the dip stick when first checking the oil. Many people can set up an engine, but only a few have the touch to make it run really well. With the newer engines it doesn’t make much difference. Nice to see it run although it needs some serious fixing.
Joe is amazing! That thing fired right up when it had no business running.
I never mess with changing the oil either. At least see if it will pop off first.
Love the amazing semitrucks, and other equipment you find. Awesome content👍👍👍👍👍
That's a great startup with a good tuneup by a great guy
Impressive
Joe is a great mechanic
Nice, getting ready to start up a 6V71 that hasn’t run in 25 years. Should be fun.:)
Doing this on the side of the road! I guess whatever it takes!
That was so cool watching that old Peter fire up like that dang I’m gonna start looking for one myself to play with lol
It wasn't a dump truck, probably an old tanker they bought and turned into a water truck.
Do what you can with what you got motto inovate , improvise adapt overcome , over go around go through mind set will there's way home
So that's how bird's nest get up in trees
Great video. You all did a great job!
Both are very good and know there stuff
New subscriber from South Australia (well I was born and raised in New Zealand) today mate, your channel is very entertaining my friend, you are wasting your time farming; you belong in front of a camera doing motoring show's. I like this as much as the UK Top Gear, you remind me a little of Clarkson; just a little. You have more mechanical sympathy than he does, keep doing what you're doing.
Yep most dumps are double framed. I worked for a used truck dealer and we built grain and dump trucks.
50 points for launching that bird nest in the tree! Lol
I know it.... Talk about planning right
@@countrylife4195 I laughed so hard when it stuck in the tree. 😂
Awesome 😎. Really enjoyed the video.
Cheers
It would kill me to see it parted out. I want to see it restored.
We are gonna fix it and sell it. Its too good to junk
@@countrylife4195 yes that's good
I got an old 71 Freightliner straight truck with a Small Cam 350 Cummins and RTO-9513 trans. Rears have 4:44 gears. Engine is supposed to be stuck. Never tried it. I need to see if it is really stuck. If so I'm going to get rid of it. I had planned to put a 290 small cam in it that ran until a firebug torched the Western Star that engine was in.
joe knows what he is doing. Good stuff. at least you now know that you have a rebuildable motor....
Good video! Some guy with a bus probably decided he wanted the jakes off it so just took everything including the tall valve covers and left it like that.
Talk valve covers ?
@@waynepollard6879 tall valve covers. Typo. Detroit sold taller valve covers to clear the Jake housings, both stamped steel and the later Aluminum valve covers were available in a taller version for engines with jakes. Jacobs also sold a “spacer” for the stamped steel covers that allowed you to run the original low height steel valve covers but those things SUCK…instead of 1 surface you now have two…one between the cover and spacer and one between the spacer and head. And any place they can leak they eventually will. You also need longer fuel jumper lines to clear the jake housings.
Great vid bud and moter sounded ok ..but anyways ya all stay safe and godbless
@countrlife I am local to you, Longview area. I am on the hunt for a set of jack's and valve covers for a 6V92. If you happen to come across some, I would definitely like to get my hands on them...
We have them, ease email me countrylifewisconsin@gmail.com
This truck needs to be restored, this looks like it was a log truck by the rear hitch plate and frame overhang at the rear. Stir stix, are the best, wish they still made trucks like this.
I absolutely love all these videos
Fixer up lad, she sounds not to shabby 👍🏻
Man I truly love a Detroit 2 stroke diesel
i like joe, purring like a kitten.
Very cool. Keep it up
cool build !
Two damn boys a playin
Joe your diesel mechanic reminds me old timer I new in my young years great man and mechanic this was a good one !
Hard to kill the old Detroits. I need to find fuel jumpers, a fast idle buffer switch and valve covers for my 8v71 so I can add the Jakes to it. I'm in gathering parts mode. Thanks for the video!!!!
We have all that, email if you need it
COOL RIDE.
Nice 👍
Stay safe as well
Another excellent video and score! One of these days, I will have to get a truck from you!!
I have your shift by the way. I just got home today and will send it out!!
@@countrylife4195 Take your time! I'm glad to see you are doing well and saving iron. Keep an eye out for another Bulldog like a B or R series... Lol
And its fun to play.
I think w the stinger you meant to say long logger not dump truck n the specs n location make really confident! I’m a new watcher n I love that you’re taking these old horses n giving them attention! Thanks fer posting n can’t wait to see ya get these dinosaurs to breathe before they’re scrap! Thx fer posting n I’m now a follower!;)
I thought shortlogger too but Joe was thinking dumptruck because it has a pto for the lift
What a good truck. I was already homesick. Canoas RS 🇧🇷.
This its good video why need more videos like that
Not to bad of old truck but need some work on engine also ready to work again and plus back on planned put it too!
Great channel its interesting to see you work your way through and find solutions.
Excelente gracias saludos desde colonbia
I was gonna say you got that 351 to start, you can get this thing to go
I am a fan of the old school, when trucks were everlast and rebuildable. Save that old girl and make her pretty....put her back to work.
Wonder how many big yarders that guy has worked on?
Semper Fi.
Love the will it start videos
Only if it was possible to work and learn from countrylife what he does is awesome
Gday guys,
Joe rocks ..!!!
Go Joe ,, you champion 🔧⚙
Aaaahhh that sweet Detroit music!!😎👍💕🇺🇸
HOW QUANTUM! I WAS WATCHING A VIDEO ABOUT JUNKYARD GOLD AND THE GUY WAS SAYING HOW HARD IT IS TO FIND 359S. I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT HE MEANT BUT AFTER WATCHING THIS VIDEO I'M PRETTY SURE I'LL BR "UP-TO-SPEED". THE GUY IS "TWIN-STICKS GARAGE" I THINK. TO BE SURE WE ARE ON THE SAME PAGE, HE'S THE GUY DOING "THE SMOKEY AND THE BANDIT" REBUILD.
How to get some of you hat .
If you replace it now and it needs work you just have to replace it again
Grey is water in oil. Joe is a generous guy and swell guy to know.
Awesome video bro, Joe sure knows is Detroit's. Great will it start video too. Stay safe up your way
Waylon Wire sez......What could possibly go wrong?LOL!
Awesome, be safe we have been waiting patiently for some entertainment/ something interesting.
Ничего непонял,но очень понравилось👍👍👍👍
