    I use PVC quite a lot; it can be torn down, and packed very tightly in a duffel bag. Most importantly, it's light weight.

      I agree. Even the joints have not been glued, but riveted that way if I need to change anything. I just drill them out and modify them to suit. The trommel works, it just needs more to deal with more load. Thanks for watching

      I drill, tap, and have an electric screwdriver for the hardware. I use teflon tape and gaskets, as well. I prefer the trommel over other classifiers, and yes, I use PVC. Even a four inch pipe with a feeder would do the trick. Although, a 12 or 24 inch might work better if you are shoveling material.
      Thanks for sharing your ideas.

    Liked, shared and commented. I like the build. I am in New York, where Kings law still is in effect. And I’m poor lol. So I have been avoiding all mechanical forms of mining. Since I started prospecting, I’ve had a few years to think long n hard about how I would mechanize mining. The most important thing to me is a water pump. I’ll pump water for a sluice. But then I thought…. Can I improve this. N my next design is a dry trammel that will classify material into 4 classes. The trammel will b waterwheel powered. Then the water will continue on to my sluice. So I’ll b able to put a scoop on the sluice then in the trammel. Repeat… I feel this is best for me. If I’ve gotta pay to run anything, it’s gonna b water. N water can spin a shaft on its way to the sluice. Just seems smartest for me. 🍻🗽🤴🏻 17:30

    You might wanna monitor the voltage at the motor.
    If it remains about the same when fed a shovel , the motor is underpowered.
    If it drops significantly , like about , I dunno , 3 Volts or more , maybe it's your wire.
    Try shortening its length or replacing it with something thicker

      @@andypandyAU.6669 Yeah , a retort , i looked into them years ago , the part that scared me though was if the pressure becomes low at the outlet and they suck back water then you got a pipe bomb that will either kill you or put you in hospital . I looked as hard as i could to find a simple safe way of retrieving the Merc with basic houshold kitchen utensils , It's very simple and safe . I think i still have the plan of it drawn somewhere ,but i still remember how it works . But you can just burn it of with Maap gas if you want , or an open fire and keep away from it . If you want the safe retort plan , i can send you a picture of it drawn . Nothing dangerous about it . Cheers Ned .

    Well done for making it. Where does the mercury come from?

    • @andypandyAU.6669
      @andypandyAU.6669  4 місяці тому +1

      The early gold rush, they used it to catch fine gold, but they also lost a lot. Early equipment had a very high loss rate , and the Chinese gold miners were historically much better at catching the fine gold without the need of mercury. Hence why it is still out there in the environment. Thanks for watching and commenting

      Just a Nissan windscreen wiper motor, 12v with a Jaycar variable speed control. I have never checked the amp draw? 100amp hrs lithium battery. The pump is 4700ghp , in runs off the battery as well. Runs for 8 hours with the solar panels boosting/charging at the same time. The lowest I have ever seen is 38% left over. I'll test it next time

      @@andypandyAU.6669 hehe that's awesome, I had windscreen wiper motor in my head!! well done you bloody tinker haha. I work some shocking clays, with very chunky gold. The river is easy work, nice clean gravels and black sand. The creeks however are a nightmare, we have to puddle our material before going through the banker, otherwise the loss too great. A trommel would kill it.

    • @andypandyAU.6669
      @andypandyAU.6669  4 місяці тому +1

      Another thing is you can slow it right down for the material to take longer to wash and keep the water pouring through! It does even better if you leave a few big rocks to roll around smashing up the clay!

      @andypandyAU.6669  4 місяці тому

      Cool , have a go. I haven't seen anyone do it with a drill. I suppose it depends on how big the drum is. The first one I built was a 20lt bucket, as the entrance was relatively small ( once you fit the spray bar) I had to feed it with a small folding camping shovel. If you go back in my videos, you will see the smaller version. Good luck, thanks for watching and commenting . 🍻

    • @andypandyAU.6669
      @andypandyAU.6669  4 місяці тому +1

      It is plastic buckets, and it is replaceable with minable expense. Minable weight is what I was chasing, I didn't want to have anything too heavy to cart up to 600mtrs into a potential spot. Don't forget the accessories, batteries, + pump , solar panel, tools, ETC. Weight is a huge factor for me, I am nearly 60 years old. I really don't care if I have to replace the main barrel of the trommel after 2 years. I hope this puts the question into some sort of perspective for you, if that's what you were asking?
