In this short video, Scott Marlow reviews the history of forced pooling and how it applies to potential shale gas drilling in North Carolina.
As Scott explains, the major question that we must answer is whether the government has the right to compel a landowner to sell their resource in order to make it more profitable for someone else to sell their resource.
RAFI worked with the Mining and Energy Commission's Compulsory Pooling Study Group to study compulsory pooling and develop regulations that protect landowners from having their property taken for private gain.
We at RAFI hope that viewing this video helps you better understand the issue of forced pooling.

***** Thanks a lot for sharing your experience here. All of this fits with my general understanding of what I hear about forced pooling. It is all news to me, but something that it looks like we are going to have to learn about very quickly here in NC, as our legislature woos the industry; they will start signing the first leases in less than a month probably. I really don't want to see this happen to our state, our land, our water, our people, our animals. It is a sad prospect....
I am very sorry to hear that you have had to experience this first hand. I hate it, and I wish I knew how to stop it...
