8:37 The best quote that comes to my mind when I'm seeing him getting so close to the egg is: "That thing is probably some kind of raw sewage container. Go ahead and rub your face all over it."
This was made in 1979 and computers were noisy as all hell back then, along with most automated machinery. The main reason was the tons of mechanical parts-magnetic storage media took the form of large reels of tape drives, and even the disk drives that dominated the later era of the '80s up to the 2010s/today have spinning disk platters, cooling fans, power supplies also had their own cooling fans and sometimes electronic components that can hum for various reasons. I can tell you, when the IBM PC XT I had in the early '80s booted up, it sounded, in many ways, louder than the Nostromo computer waking the ship back to life. In the modern computing era, with solid-state drives taking over and tapes having become relics, the noise has largely been reduced to just cooling elements, like fans (or, nowadays, liquid cooling, depending on the intensity of the computing rig). The whirring, clicking, and grinding has mostly vanished.
A lot of old tech is analog which is why they make noise, like CRT tvs. There is benefit to analog technology, as it can calculate an infinite number of states between 1 and 0, but digital can only interpret 1's and 0's.
You did kinda figure it out. It does have a very short lifespan. It was actually in the shuttle laying there waiting to die. It's not easy to tell, but the alien is a little more gray at the end of the movie than when we first saw it. I believe in Ridley Scott's comentary on the movie, he mentions that.
Yeah he did say that in several interviews and on the commentary but later films kind of retcon that. The alien is actually the same color throughout the entire film.
Ridley is wishy washy about the lore. Any guess is as good as Scott’s “official lore”. And generally speaking, the alien makes little sense. Either as a lifeform or as a bio weapon described in later movies. But that’s ok, the less you know the scarier it is. Scott and Cameron made excellent films. But the more you know about the alien, the less effective it gets. It doesn’t help that characters get more frustrating as the franchise goes on.
@@woeshaling6421 I will admit that thinking it's an organism whose sole purpose is simply to procreate kind of makes it terrifying because it's almost like a virus. As an engineered by a weapon, kind of interesting but now that they're trying to say David bioengineered it I think is absolutely ludicrous and I will never subscribe to that theory. As much as I love the David character, that aspect was dumb and how the lore got retconned later on just made it more ridiculous. Both Prometheus and Covenant are amazing films visually. But sorely lacking in substance, especially Covenant. But I agree that the less you know about it, the better. Like Lovecraft said: the oldest emotion of mankind is fear and the oldest kind of fear is fear of the unknown.
The Thing (John Carpenter version) came out in 1982. Also, a great sci-fi horror with amazing practical effects. Would love to see your reaction to it!

0:48 Yeah, Alien vs Predator takes place in it's own universe. It's still a fun movie, but it's not canon. Paul Anderson (The director of the movie) is known to change lore of many classic stories. Good reaction, Nia. Btw, per your comment around the 2:25 minute mark regarding the silence of electric vehicles today, actually EVs were extremely popular back in the 1890s and early 1900s...and those electric cars were quite silent as well. Over 33% of the vehicles on the roadways in the early 1900s were electric. It's really only in the past 20 years that EVs have been making a comeback (although a failing comeback...lol). But yep...the 1890s into the early 20th century were already mass-producing those vehicles. In fact, if I'm not mistaken, the very first EV was conceptualized and an experimental prototype developed way back in the 1830s. Also, I assume that other commenters clued you in regarding the sequence of the movies (since you mentioned Alien vs Predator). Bear in mind, this 1979 movie and its sequel in 1986 were the original, and contained within its own universe. There was a 3rd Alien movie as well in the late 1990s. However, just imagine that many years later after the classics, the movie studio decided to exploit the franchise as a money grab. So they bring in a new team to write sequel and prequel scripts...mix the movie and ANOTHER movie franchise...and totally dilute from the original by releasing trash for the gullible movie consumers. In a nutshell, please watch this movie and its 1986 sequel as their OWN movies, and if you wish, proceed with caution if you decide to watch and react to the diluted money-grabs put out by the movie studios...LOL. (Btw, this movie was before my time, but even I know that it is a classic, and the recent trash with the 'Alien' name are insults to the original gems).
I have watched many channels show Alien, but no one wanted to know as much about the creature itself as you did, which impressed me.That was an interesting reaction.
Welcome! Many people hate how much I question and speculate, but I just can’t turn off my brain. I guess it’s more scary when I don’t know its motive, abilities and how it operates so my mind is trying to figure it out lol
@@NiaMakiReacts hahaha why? I think it's fun that you care. I'm prepping this for someone who doesn't pay attention. 😁 For example, I am interested from a scientific point of view. Don't worry, I'm not like Ash. 😁lol
The water was from the cooling units that were damaged when they landed. The alien likes to move through the air shafts to keep from being detected and hunt its prey. And you can't stab the chestburster because it is faster than you are, and the acid would destroy whatever part of you it splashed on. You missed the part where the chestbusrter tightened its tail around Kane's neck. But I love that you worked your way through the movie. But you must watch the follow-up sequel called ALIENS. It is more action oriented and will pull at your maternal instincts. I really can't wait. Keep going and enjoy
Fun fact, the parasite (facehugger) that attaches to Kane was originally going to be painted green. The writers and director visited H.R. Giger’s studio during pre-production to check on his progress. H.R. Giger was the artist behind the design of the alien creatures and spaceship. They saw the facehugger had just come out of the mold and the flesh colored latex looked more disturbing. It is funny how things like that work out. I love Alien and H.R. Giger.
A LOT would have made sense if I a lot of movies. Even Rabbid’s… droid thing didn’t make sense to me until I saw Star Wars 😂 I really be confused a lot when I play sometimes 😂

You talking about Ash being frustrated with being unable to act on primal desires is spot on! Him trying to kill Ripley with a rolled up magazine was intended to be his way of "raping" her, as he doesn't actually posess genitals. This movie intentionally tries to disturb the viewer on multiple unconscious levels at once.
17:32 De toutes les réactions que j'ai vues à ce film (plusieurs dizaines), vous êtes la seule à avoir imaginé si tôt dans le film qu'Ash pouvait savoir des choses avant. Belle vivacité d'esprit, bravo. 😉
Some of the equipment may seem outdated from a modern perspective, but it actually makes sense if you consider that the Nostromo is a towing vehicle. The company wants the highest possible return on investment, so they aren't going to spend the money to equip it with the most advanced technology. They would make sure the ship had what it needs to be functional, but that's all.
The Alien didn't eat the people. There is a deleted scene that shows what it did with their bodies. It doesn't really line up with what happens in part 2 though, so it's alright that it was cut out. When you watch Aliens, you should definitely watch the special edition!! The several extra minutes of run time is worth it. The sequels past part 2 ( Aliens) aren't as good imo, but Aliens is one of the greatest sequels ever made! This is a good time to watch Alien and Aliens, because Alien:Romulus hits theaters later this year.

You asked how does the Alien also known as the Xenomorph grow so quickly? here's your answer... In the movie "Alien," the creature known as the "Xenomorph" goes through a rapid growth process due to its unique life cycle. After hatching from an egg, the creature undergoes several molts, shedding its skin and growing larger each time. This rapid growth is a characteristic of the Xenomorph's biology, allowing it to reach its full size relatively quickly. Additionally, the Xenomorph's ability to adapt and evolve in response to its environment contributes to its formidable and fast-growing nature. I hope this helped answer your question.
This ages me but the trailer with the cracked egg sparked my interest in the movie. I then purchased the graphic novel, the art of Alien, and the making of Alien books before finally seeing the movie in the theatre. I purchased a film clip viewer of the movie, an Alien model and a giant Alien action figure. This wasn't my favorite movie at the time but I admired its realistic treatment of the crew through the acting and directing; the sequel being a comic strip/Hollywood-shallow action movie. However, for some reason, this movie captured my attention. It has been fun watching your reaction to it.
i was told that when this movie came out, everyone HAD to see it. it was hyped like Jaws, Star Wars, and had lines around the block at movie theaters. it held people attention and fears until the sequel in 1986. and that one was a major hit too.
Hilariously this was one of my favorite childhood movie. I remember one random X-mas with extend family slowly dying down we decide to watch a movie. As Alien pop up we all universally agree to watch from ages 8-82 XD
If we agree that it's impossible for the creature to grow from belly-burster size to as big as a large man so quickly, the most plausible explanation is that two full-grown aliens somehow stowed away on the shuttle, one wandering the ship killing the crew and the other finding its way into the shuttle control room and taking a nap.
The thing about the Predators is that they visit earth repeatedly. The Prey prequel takes place in the 1700s. The AVP movies are set in the early 2000s. This movie, Alien, is set in 2122.
The AVP movies put the timeline in modern day to fit with the Predator timeline which is also in the modern day. They were trying to give a reason for the company to be interested in the alien before the crew of the Nostromo knew about it. 3:44 Interesting point. Predators come to us in the present day, but we come to aliens in the future haha. 30:02 I can speak from experience in scaring people in haunted house attractions that some people do get so terrified that the can't move.
It's a shame that all you newbies never saw this film at an IMAX theatre. What an experience! "Lot's of deep throat action". I like the way you think Nia.😆
@NiaMakiReacts the late great artist H.R. Giger (rhymes is eager) created the Alien design. "deep throat action" pretty much describes his artwork lol. I'm not dissing him, love his art, but that's a good description!

According to Ridley Scott, the original ending had Ripley dying. She fired the harpoon gun, but it bounced off the creature, allowing the creature to close the distance and move in for the kill. Also, the creature would have made the final report of the USS Nostromo using Ripley's voice. Thanks, Nia!
Loud computers, etc. Yep, back then every switch went click and every light went beep. For us older users of modern tech, it's weird not knowing if it's working, and even weirder, not knowing that it's not working.
Trust me, it bugged me when Apple got rid of the home button but I can’t even remember when we went from the loud dial tone to connect to the internet to now. It’s just makes u think what impossible thing can we not even imagine that will be available in the future lol
'Why is it so big?' It's 'biomechanical' as the style was back then, and it was taking power from the ship: remember when they were finding the cat, and the lights that didn't come on, then DID come on for no reason?
It was not taking power from the ship. And the lights weren't off and on for no reason, Parker explains the lights in that section shorted out during the takeoff and then goes to a panel to fix them.
My mom was pregnant for me when she went and saw this in the movie theater with her best friend and scene where the alien bursts out of poor Cane's chest scared her friend so much she walked out. She was like "nope"
A lot of your questions are answered in "Aliens." It was fun watching you see everything going on. It is great sci-fi horror film for sure. And Aliens is every bit as bad. As we say in Texas; y'all be safe. Everyone!
So the "pilot" (known as the "space jockey" unofficially) looks like that because of the condensation and eventual mummification. The condensation forms on the surfaces, drips down, brings with it minerals, those build up a layer with time and it gets to where it looks fused to the seat. So where does the condensation come from? Well... ...the egg chamber. 😁
The thing that always boggles me is that shortly after the film came out was that there was a toy line for it. I mean, it was a sci-fi film that came out on the heels of the original Star Wars, the toy companies were thirsty for the kind of success Kenner was having with their Star Wars action figures and latching on to any SF property they could, but this is absolutely not a kids movie.
When--not if, but when--you watch _Aliens_ make certain you watch the Special Edition. The theatrical edit is great, but the SE adds back a lot of character and story development and some scenes which ratchet up the tension even more.
8:37 "in the name of science, I'll put my face in it" - Other Joe Fact: Kane survived and appears in SPACEBALLS. WATCH the ALIENS SPECIAL EDITION because it has better stuff that was left out of the movie.
Great movie and great reaction. Now you HAVE to watch the sequel ALIENS, plural,.one of the best sequels ever made. Ut stop after that. The rest are no good. Sigourney Weaver was nominated for an oscar for her role as Ellen Ripley
Just wanted to recommend the new series "Shogun", it's great. :) Based on the novel with the same name by James Clavell (and there was a fantastic miniseries created already 1980), it's set in medieval Japan. You have political scheming for power, some wild action, fantastic performances, stunning cinematography, and highly evocative and haunting score.
Consider that there was a secret directive to bring back the life form and it took a while for Ripley to decode the message through the ECIU computer of a mining tug vessel. It would stand to reason that the company already knew what the beacon meant and had other info. In my view, Ash was there to ensure the organisms survival from the minute the company found the distress signal. Ash (robot) probably had his orders transmitted to him before the crew even woke up in the first scene.
@therewasacrookedman5892 Ash was clearly there to ensure the alien's survival. The fact that the other crew members didn't know makes Ash's actions consistent in retrospect. Yelling "Don't touch it" after it bursts from a chest, is one of those moments. My point, however, is that Ash was correct in not trying to kill it immediately. It has acid for blood... stabbing it with a knife at the dinner table would have killed the whole crew once the acid burns through the hull.
Excellent reaction, Nia. If you decide to watch the sequel, Aliens (which is, if anything, even better than Alien), make sure you choose the extended version, which is much better than the original cinematic release edit. After Aliens, the rest of the fanchise is very poor and should only be watched if you like being seriously disappointed. Remember, this species reproduces by means of a 'face clucther', so the cat can't have been 'infected'.
@@dragonage2112 Where did I say it was a 'big deal'? I said this: "[M]ake sure you choose the extended version, which is much better than the original cinematic release edit." Can you see the words "big deal" in there anywhere? Or anything else that implies I think that that version of this film is a 'big deal'?
@@barreloffun10 I disagree and for the reasons I stated; the extended version gives the backgound to Ripley's relation with Newt, as well as Newt's own background. It also explains a little more about what happened to the colony.
So the hypnotic beginning sequence with the strange noises and what looked like an alien as you said (It's actually an emergency helmet for the pilot to wear if there's a hull breach and they lose air) is all intentional foreshadowing of things to come. The strange noise of the computer starting meant to sound alien and it mirrors the "distress" signal. Also when you compare the sound to that of when Kane leans over the egg and the facehugger leaps out, they are very similar. The emergency helmet with the strange "mouth" happens to be where Kane sits foreshadowing the facehugger breaking through his helmet later on. The helmet is placed looking at the screen making you feel there's a creature controlling the craft; a similar theme to the space jockey they find fossilised. If you love this movie like I do checkout the vid "Bizarre subliminal foreshadowing in ALIEN" an excellent analytical breakdown of that sequence ;) ;)
These are Alien Xenomorphs named after James Cameron's second film: "Aliens". Originally these creatures came from the dark world of H.R. Giger and these creatures were never fully understood. But for them we can say that they have many subdivisions of beings doing different functions and at their head stands a Queen. A queen is individual for each hive. And every queen is another queen's enemy. Creatures in Aliens:2 are Drones, but this one here is a Queen Substitute in case they don't have a Queen in their ranks. These are special engineers capable of morphing their victims into eggs in order to continue (or start) their population. These creatures are not just designed for war, they are designed for Annihilation. These are parasites killing their enemy as soon as they are born from the womb of their enemy and as you have seen they grow very quickly, very quickly after their birth.

And now you have to watch "Aliens". And stop there. You don't need to see any other movies in the franchise. 🙂
8:37 The best quote that comes to my mind when I'm seeing him getting so close to the egg is: "That thing is probably some kind of raw sewage container. Go ahead and rub your face all over it."
Yeah WHO DOES THAT?!?!??
I wouldn't have made this connection but I'm GLaD you pointed it out.
The alien JAZZ HANDS gets almost everyone
Hahahahahahah!!! Not the JAZZ hands 🤗
I thought it wanted a hug!
Ripley was canceling the self destruct because the alien was between her and the shuttle. She couldn't get to the shuttle.
I’ve seen a few comments like this, I think I may do this reaction too then. I’ll definitely include it in the next poll
@@NiaMakiReactsdo you really want to be traumatized? That movie is only for those who are not faint of heart. It's a great movie but I'll tell you that if you want to watch it then don't watch it on a full stomach. I miss movies where women felt like women & not boss b*cthes. That's what every female lead movie does now. At least here the female characters have flaws & are vulnerable. The female characters now don't have flaws & are perfect with no character growth.
Watched this for the first time when I was 12 at 1 am in the morning. Ya boy was scarred from that chest bursting scene
YOO I would have had the lights on!! hahaha!!!! especially how you didn't even notice it in the end?? my room would feel so unsafe
@NiaMakiReacts I saw it in the theaters at 7 years old. Was so scary with everyone freaking out around us. Lol
0:48 Yeah, Alien vs Predator takes place in it's own universe. It's still a fun movie, but it's not canon. Paul Anderson (The director of the movie) is known to change lore of many classic stories. Mortal Kombat 1995 movie, and the Resident Evil live-action movie franchise are huge examples of him. changing some of the lore.
Oh interesting, I didn’t know that!! You learn new things everyday 😆
AvP was created because of a prank, a person making the Predator skull scene put a Xenomorph skull as a joke and that's how it started (before the Internet hype)
Next movie, The Exorcist. We will see about old time scary.

For example, I am interested from a scientific point of view.
He meant facehugger wrapped its tail around Kane’s neck
"In space, no one can hear you scream"... was the original tagline for this film. 😯😳
"I've seen Gremlins, I can handle anything.."
Giger.
Oh, Nia - you were so NOT ready. lol! I hope you've recuperated by now.
😂 yeah I’m good now… i think, editing it definitely had me on edge again though

Congrats on surviving! =) Alien is one of those movies that is kinda timeless in its 'fearfactor' and even now it scares the ish out of people so genuinely: well done! I hope you watch the second one 'alienS'. It is somewhat of a favorite of mine as far as sequels go, very well done.
Now you need to watch Aliens, best sequel ever. Make sure you watch the Enhanced or Directors Cut. Not as scary but action packed.
Good to know I won’t be as scared 😂
Better sequel than Hot Shots Part Deux?
The old practical effects are still more horrific than the new CG stuff. Great reaction, thanks.

Movie summary: Except for a cat, no one listens to Ripley. They all die.
Forreal 😂
You talking about Ash being frustrated with being unable to act on primal desires is spot on! Him trying to kill Ripley with a rolled up magazine was intended to be his way of "raping" her, as he doesn't actually posess genitals. This movie intentionally tries to disturb the viewer on multiple unconscious levels at once.
There was a ride at Disney World called The Great Movie Ride When I was kid I went on it one of the things they had was Alien 1979 also nice reaction👍

I’m getting opposite advice 😂 some say theatrical others day directors cut !

That would catch anyone by surprise 😂 and horror
For the sequel Aliens, I suggest the theatrical release, not the director’s cut.
I’m gonna have to put a poll up cause people are saying opposite things 😂
Agreed. The director's cut is interesting to watch. But the theatrical is better.
In the special edition I think it's called there's a scene added to the film that shows what happened to Brett and Dallas
You finally made it here 😂 great movie reaction and can't wait for Aliens 😊
The sequel is even better! You have to watch it! 😊
That’s terrifying lol
Great reaction, loved it!
It's a shame that all you newbies never saw this film at an IMAX theatre. What an experience! "Lot's of deep throat action". I like the way you think Nia.😆
😂 it was A LOT of it!
Well IMAX didn't exist in 1979 soooooo yeah. LoL
@NiaMakiReacts the late great artist H.R. Giger (rhymes is eager) created the Alien design. "deep throat action" pretty much describes his artwork lol. I'm not dissing him, love his art, but that's a good description!
Lambert couldn’t move because she was frozen with fear.
They gave us a hint in the beginning of the movie when Kane jogged in place like super fast.

Oh I didn’t even connect the issues with the light I just thought it was an artistic choice to visualize the chaos. I must watch it again now
It was not taking power from the ship. And the lights weren't off and on for no reason, Parker explains the lights in that section shorted out during the takeoff and then goes to a panel to fix them.
2:14 I know right?! It is pretty fascinating
My mom was pregnant for me when she went and saw this in the movie theater with her best friend and scene where the alien bursts out of poor Cane's chest scared her friend so much she walked out. She was like "nope"
A lot of your questions are answered in "Aliens."
It was fun watching you see everything going on.
Oh interesting!!!!!
Definitely not a kids movie 😂
When--not if, but when--you watch _Aliens_ make certain you watch the Special Edition. The theatrical edit is great, but the SE adds back a lot of character and story development and some scenes which ratchet up the tension even more.

Ahhh it was mentioned in discord too; might put it on a poll then!
Lucky Star was a Madonna song that Ripley was singing at the end
Ummm that song did not exist in 1979 and Madonna was not a star at that point. The song she's singing is from a 1935 Broadway musical.
@treadstone1138 OK, you're probably correct
This is the song I heard from Ripley:

Get a grip
Ash obviously had sinister motives, but it was probably wise at the time not to kill the chest burster cuz of its acidic blood.
Yeah…. Still mad he let them back in tho

Personally I think the theatrical release is better.
Did you really not make the facehugger/transfer of alien scenario?

I sure hope you follow through with reacting to the sequels that follow this.
For sure!
