What do you do when you lose your place? Sometimes I forget to replace my stitch marker at the beginning of the round. How do you tell where the round begins without a marker?
@@JsMomma7 If this happened in the rounds where you are working increases, you can find it easily. Just go back and find the last stitch with the increases. But if this happens in the rounds with only repetitions, it's more likely to find an approximate stitch. But to explain this better, I need a video for visualizing. It's hard to explain to you in words how you can find it. I will add this in a topic for a video. Thank you for your question!
I use the 4th method…it looks the best. The only thing is if you’re only doing one row and then changing again, it causes a bit of warping so I don’t recommend it in those situations 😄
You did such a good job explaining the different methods - I watched it basically because I was crocheting and wanted some background accompaniment XD but you actually made me stop and listen because I typically roll my eyes at how complicated many content creators make this seem... I'm guessing you've helped A LOT of newbies with this video!
Thank you so much for the kind words! And for the beautiful feedback! I try my best to make things simple and encourage more people into the amigurumi world! ❤️❤️❤️
I think this is the most helpful video I have seen on color changes! I can’t wait to try your favorite method! I love how easy it looks and it’s seamless! Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for the info! I’ve been doing a slip stitch color change for a little bit but I was originally told to chain 1 and in the next row skip the slip stitch and put the first sc in the chain 1. However, I think your method looks nicer and is a lot simpler.
Yes! I know what you are saying and I used this way a couple of times until I learn this one! I am a bit lazy with changing colors... Glad I could help! ❤️❤️
Purpose of the third example is to create cleaner line between egdes of colors not an invisivble color change. The third example with the last example will give us the best result, there will be cleaner line between colors and no jump on change, but is the worst in case of effort. And the second one is the best ;)
Yes! Great pointed out! Although it is a technique that many crocheters use as an "invisible color change" because of this cleaner line between the colors you mentioned! And is good to use for some effects I suppose! But combining the third and last, OMG, that is an effort for perfectionists! LOL
Thank you so much for your very clear and simple comparisons! I have tried 3 of them previously and must agree with you on your conclusions. The most labor intensive is the best, of course, but sooo many ends!! Thanks for sharing your talents in all your other great videos as well!
This is the best tutorial I have found so far. All the other "easy color change" videos just didn't click with my brain and I felt more confused after watching. (lol) Yours is simple and immediately understandable! Thank you so much!
I actually like your number 2 as well. I've tried the number 4 and while it is almost seemless I'm making a zebra so I'm changing colors every 2 rows and that's just too much work. I'm sticking with number 2 for the zebra. Thanks so much for showing the turtorial on all 4. Very helpful!!
Thanks for the video, it is very helpful! I am obsessed with learning new color changing techniques and I agree with you: the 2nd one is the best cost-effective. But I confess that I love the 3rd one. I don't use it as a color change technique per se. Making stitches of two colors allows you to get a complete separation of them, with the old color not invading the new one. This is great for example when starting the outfit on an amigurumi body. You can associate it with technique 2 and the result will be even better!
Yeasts totally agree with you about the third method! Great point! I use a different technique for separating a pants from shirt for example, I change the color and make one round with blsl, and next round I work the SC on back loop. This leaves a "line" separating one part from another (like pants and shirt for example). Thank you for being here with me! 💕
This was a very helpful tutorial. I have learned a lot from it. I like your favorite too, #2...it looks the easiest to do and looks nicer. I used to do the first one, but now I'm going to be doing the second color change. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much for showing all the different methods! For me, the one with the slip stitch is the most practical one, and it is efficient, too. Maybe in the future I'll try the last one.
Hey!!! You are super welcome! Yes, the third one is for trying to achieve perfection! And requires a lot of work...! Most of the time I am just lazy to do it lol. Thank you for subscribing and for being here!
This is an excellent video. I was taught to do color changes using method #1. I’m going to start using #2 from now on. It gives a much better look. Thanks!
You are so welcome! Yes, I also thought method #1! And its always good to know other methods and decide which one works better for you and the project you are working on!
Thanks so much!!!!!I finally get #4!!!! I've been struggling with it and watched some videos that didn't help much, skipping ahead a couple stitches on the color change was my problem, I had been trying it on the first stitch😮 You're amazing!!!!! 😊😊😊😊😊
Thank you so much for sharing your favorite, which is now mine! I've seen the other three but never the sc change. You can't see me but I'm doing a happy dance right now! 🤩😂🤣
Thank you very much for your video. I'm beginner, but i think the 4th one is worth the effort. The result is perfect and I could learn it easily because of your tutorial. Thank you for your effort to make this available for us! 🥰
Omg, thank you thank you THANK YOU!! Technique 4 takes me no time at all and it is the true seamless color change. Making candy corn for Halloween and this is just what I needed!!!
Wow! You are my Queen! I want to arrive in the patience level to always make the number 4! Specially for a candy! Must have a lot of color changes there! ❤️❤️
Wow! That 2nd method looks really simple! Currently working on a simple amigurumi with some complicated outfits, and for one of the outfits the colour changes look awkward. I will definitely do a version with your 2nd method before trying some of the more difficult methods ...
Yes give it a try on the second method. Simple and effective. Depending of the pattern and how many rounds you have after the color change, maybe you can try the last method. Is just more work, but definitely works for any pattern!
OMG, this is a life changer! After looking t many videos, I couldn’t grasp the concept of color change with slip stitch but your video did the trick. Thanks so much!! I am now a subscriber!! Woohoo!!!
Excellent that you have demonstrated so clearly 4 methods. Thank you for doing this. I went for the fourth one because that almost invisible colour change is very good. Have subscribed to you. Cheers
Thank you so much for this very useful and helpful tutorial, just I have one question, how it is going with 3rd way if it is only one line change every round?
I love the 4th technique which I'm using all the time, but I've come across a pattern I'm not sure how to handle. The first row of the colour change calls for crocheting BLO, so how do you handle that first stitch of the colour change? Would you do BLO before and after the Ch 1?
Thank you for this video, I have watched wo many different ones and I think your favourite will be the easiest for me. I am very new to crochet and amigurumi (also left handed) teaching myself by videos. One thing you didn't address in your favourite is what you do with the first colour after the change, is it cut and the end worked in or another method? Sorry if it's obvious to some, rookie here lol. Thanks.
All the questions are very welcome Cathy! The yarn's tail remains inside the toy after the color changes. So, because nobody will see it, I just tie a simple knot with the two ends of the yarn. It is simple, easy and secure way to make sure that the new color and the old color will know unravel or get a bit loose with time! Of course, if you are crocheting a detail that would be seen on the wrong side of the crochet, you wouldn't use this technique. But for amigurumi, I always do like that!
I have another question - can you also start the new colour a few stitches behind where you ended the first or does it compromise a anything? The reason I'm asking is because im working on an a amigurumi 😂piece with rings of colour and don't want the change to eventually end up on the front. If I'm jumping a few stitches as you do each time, it will eventually make its way to the front.
Yes it will! Maybe if you are changing the colors in every round, you will need to move your starting stitch to one stich ahead. So you don't make one slip stitch above the previous one!
Thank you for the very helpful info! I would like to see if you have any tricks with counting rows. I’ve been using scrap yarn that I weave in & out as I go. But I’m always confused on counting. My logic says every alternate yarn I see is 2 rows (due to the weaving) I’m just not sure that it’s right. If you have other methods of counting rows, I’d really appreciate seeing them!
Oh I will make a video on that. Showing where are the rows and stitches and how to count them! I don't like much of waving a yarn as I go because, depending of the yarn I use, it was leaving some left over colors. The best way for me is to train the eyes to find the rows, and there is a trick to do that! I will add on my videos to shoot! Thank you for your suggestion! By the way, your logic about the alternating yarn being 2 rows, is correct!
Thank you so much for this! I love the second one ❤. One question though. When crocheting from some pattern, does the slip stich round count as one round of sc? Or I shouldn't count it as a round? And what if the round I want to change color in, requires increases?
I am not sure if I understand your question. A round of slip stitch count as a round of slip stitch. But if you mean if the slip stitch count as a stitch, then yes. You only substitute the first single crochet for a slip stitch. And for the next round, you make single crochet nornaly. You don't have to do increases because you haven't change the amount of stitches. You only make a sl instead of a SC.
What if we combine method 2 and method 3? I'm mean, sure, it's gona take more effort, but I like how sharp the chance look horizontally in method 3, but is not as good with that gap as method 2. I think I'm gonna try it and see what happens.
I hope you don’t mind me asking, but with your favourite method, does the slip stitch at the beginning and the final stitch into it just count as one stitch? But also wanted to confirm that it changes the starting position for the next round and if that’d impact following patterns? The few Ami’s I’ve done have been done in joined rounds so I wasn’t sure if this would work with it or not. I hope that makes sense. 😭 apologies for any trouble!
I came on the comments to see if anyone asked this type of question. Method 2 is great, but what if the first stitch of the next round is a decrease? How would you do that if you need to start with a back loop slip stitch. I'm guessing this method only works if the first and last stitches of the round are the same?
This is very helpful! Thanks! My question is: do you need to yarn over the yarn tail in the 2nd technique? I saw she did it the 1st one at 1:58 but none of the others.
Hey Amy! Good observation! For amigurumi, I like better to tight a knot in the new colors, since it will be inside of the toy. But as I crochet so many things, sometimes I just yarn over the tail while changing colors, because its more practical and its basically done once you crochet a couple of stitches and you can cut your thread! Either way is good choice!
Hello, I was up all night trying to do the bee using your technique, just keep losing my stitch count after changing colors. A nightmare😄, I will keep trying because I love it.
Ohhh!! I can imagine! When we lose count we can easily lose our head as well! LOL You can do it! Don't give up! Pretend that is just the same as a normal round but start with a slip stitch instead of sc! ❤❤
What do you do with the tail from the new colour after you change in the 4th (best) method? Do you crochet over it for the first few stitches to secure it?
Hey This video is really helpful but I have a question For the second method when we slip stitch and add a single crochet at the end of the round will the stitch count change like will there be an additional stitch Thank you
Hey! Ok, let us go slow and clarify the second method. You will not add a single crochet! You will start the round with a slip stitch, so, you substitute the first single crochet for a slip stitch. Once you arrive at the end of the round and start the next round, you are back working only with a single crochet. So, on top of the slip stitch you worked previously, you will work a single crochet! I hope this explanation can help! ❤️
My biggest issue with amigurumi is using yarn unders. I'm a yarn over fanatic, but I've seen yarn unders with tighter stitches. I dunno if it's better to yarn under before pulling the loop thru the stitch and finishing the SC with another yarn under or finish with a yarn over???
I use yarn under for very specific projects. My stitch tension is already tight and, my toys tend to get very stiff if working with yarn under. It might look very neat but, I don't like how it feels. But, when crocheting with yarn under, if that's your preference, just work normally everything, even finishing, but grabbing the yarn under the needle. Nothing changes much generally speaking in the way of crocheting things. You can do half of the stitch with yarn under, and finishing the stitch with yarn over but, really, just adapt to your preference and tension. And how your finished stitch will look like! I hope this helps!
Hey! No! You are only substituting the first sc for a sl,. That is all! Once you finish the round, you will work a sc on top of the sl that you worked previously! I hope this is clear! If you dont understand, please let me know! ❤️
The trick here is to get used to counting the slip stitch as a normal stitch from the round. You just substitute the first single crochet of the round for a slip stitch and move on. When you complete the round and arrive at the first stitch of the round, (which is the slip stitch), then you make single crochet normally as you would. Ah, also, use a stitch marker always! I hope this helps!
I would like to try the second one but I'm not sure I understood everything (sorry, English is not my mother tongue). With the new color, you make one slip stich, and then, every stiches you make are single crochet ? So, all you have to do is one slip stiches and there you just continue normally ?
Hey! Sorry for late response! But yes that is exactly it! You start with a slip stitch in the first stitch, and then continue working normally. Once you finish the round and start the new one, on top of the slip stitch you make a single crochet normally like you would!
The difference for the double crochet might be more visible in some of these techniques. I would suggest the last option for double crochet, starting with 2 chains of the new color (and counting that as one stitch).
You just do the same thing, but with increases/decreases. The 4th one would probably be the best for that because it doesn't involve a slip stitch, which would mess up the stitch count.
Actually the 3rd method is not for the vertical imperfection it is for the horizontal if you look closely you can see the other colours stitches interrupt in the previous row it is more clear if you use chunky yarn.... great tutorial though 👏👏👍👍
Yes, I agree that also helps with vertical imperfections. But, I would say that for vertical color changes, what helps the best is to work with the single crochet grabbing the yarn under the needle instead of over the needle. But I don't have a tutorial about this yet... ❤️

Your favorite is the best I think. Thanks for this informative video. I am a new subscriber. :)
Thanks for subbing! I am super happy the video was helpful to you! Thank you for being here!
Awesome 👏🏽 thank you 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
You are super welcome! 💖💖
How I would do double crochet with method number 2? I confused, could you explain please?🙏🏻
@@LittleCrochetFarm thank you so much for sharing your gift and time to teach others, I got it.
@@blkrose5175 Yay!! I am happy to read you got it!!!
Thank you! This is really helpful :) I also like the 2nd one a lot ;)
You are welcome!!! I am happy it was helpful to you!
Thank you 😊
You're welcome 😊❤️
I think the one you like is the best choice too!
Thank you! ❤️❤️
Love your favourite
What do you do with the tail from the new colour after you change in the 4th (best) method? Do you crochet over it for the first few stitches to secure it?
You can do that or, make a simple knot. I like to just give it a tight knot since these will be inside of the amigurumi and nobody will see it 🥰
@@LittleCrochetFarm perfect, thanks!
Hey
This video is really helpful but I have a question
For the second method when we slip stitch and add a single crochet at the end of the round will the stitch count change like will there be an additional stitch
Thank you
Thank you so much 😊😊😊
You are super welcome! ❤️
@@LittleCrochetFarm It helps me so much I was going to cry in my room for 69 hours thank you so much again!!!
Won’t you increase the number of stitches if you crochet in the slip stich?
Hey! No! You are only substituting the first sc for a sl,. That is all! Once you finish the round, you will work a sc on top of the sl that you worked previously! I hope this is clear! If you dont understand, please let me know! ❤️
I want to try number 4.
I hope you are now working on a Zebra! 😅🤣 I’m joking! 💖💖 have fun!
Thanks!
I'm happy it was helpful! Thank you for your support! ❤️ 🙏
Thank you 🙏
You are super welcome! ❤️
Thank you so much
You are super welcome 💖💖
What do you do with the yarn from the previous color?
I cut and give a simple, but very tight, knot. It will be facing inside the toy so, it doesn't matter if it "looks good" 💞
I agree with you 💯 %
Yay!!! 🥰🥰🥰
Excellent 👌
Thank you! I'm happy you like it!
Somehow doing your favorite way. I lose the count over and over, can you tell me why.
@@LittleCrochetFarm Thank you for your reply and the explanation :) I will try it !
Does the 3rd one work with back loops or front?
For the third one, you work in both loops! Grab the complete stitch!
.muchas gracias
You are super welcome!
Love your favoutite
And maybe now you have a new favorite! 🥰🥰
#2👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Doing 1 row changes continuously it doesnt show that. Video 2
Do you still count that slip stitch row?
Yes! The slip stitch is only substituting the first single crochet of the round!
Thanks
You are welcome! I am happy it was useful to you!
isit the same with double crochet?
The difference for the double crochet might be more visible in some of these techniques. I would suggest the last option for double crochet, starting with 2 chains of the new color (and counting that as one stitch).
How do you change colours on rounds that involves decreases or increases? No one will tell me how! :( any help is appreciated.
You just do the same thing, but with increases/decreases. The 4th one would probably be the best for that because it doesn't involve a slip stitch, which would mess up the stitch count.
Or, for the 2nd one, ignore the slip stitch and treat it as a stitch between rounds (finish the row, make the slip stitch, start the row)
