That dog was horrible, there's no way on Earth that he should have passed with that behavior. Lunging at _friendly_ strangers and completely losing it at a simple umbrella? No way.
I’d be uneasy walking my Doberman in public places if she reacted that way to other people. All my Dobies have been very protective when needed. But none ever reacted to a person posing no threat. I can and do take my everywhere including into shops. She’s always complimented on her behaviour.
Really? High score from everything?Strong dog does just watch, smell and walk away. For me, all the barking was total insecurity and lack of nervs, not strong independent dog o.O How ever, for me, one of the best dobermann biteworks i have seen ever here in youtube! Is he how young in this test?
Adorable. I’ve been in training/evaluation for Canine Good Citizen certification before with my Doberman when she was wound up and READY to GO. Kinda just have to roll your eyes. The whining at the end for the lack of fun is the cherry on top.
Weird, this looks like an absolute fail when I just watched a GSD go through everything beautifully only to fail because he stepped off the grate walk.
The dog is an IPO3 dog that follows different rules than these exercises. He got agitated by the decoy a few minutes prior and didn’t get to pursue the decoy. He simply is not used to be pulled out without getting to bite. If you need a definition - you can say he is frustrated. But he recovered well and didn’t show any aggression to a friendly person, which was the whole purpose of that last exercise.
This was interesting I just ran into this channel. It was weird because I had a Doberman male named Max and he had the same temperament. Was highly socialized as a puppy however could not turn off on command. It is like Im seeing the same dog!!! he was a great dog with us and very loyal however did not like children well most plus he disliked some people. It was hit or miss. He lived to be 9 years old. I do want another one however now that I have 5 grandchildren I am looking for a Dobermann with a great temperament from a great bloodline!!
Some might give up and turn dog over for adoption or worse. Sometimes time , money and "pro" training could work. We all hope good temperment lies underneath dogs rough edges. Very early / reinforcement in early development is optimum and best for dog breed at risk .
Sorry Im no expert with Dobermans or WAE but the way he barks / lunges at the helpers ... is that a good or bad thing? I.e. is that the temperament we want to see? He appears almost "deaf" to your command? But I have seen his superb IPO videos so I might be missing something here
In this test they want to see a dog that is alert overall, curios to discover nonthreatening objects, friendly to friendly people, neutral to neutral people, can detect a real threat and brave to protect his owner, but can switch back to normal within 10 or 15 seconds after the treat is gone. My commands here are irrelevant - they judge dog's reaction. Because of his IPO training, he is not used to "get in a situation" and not get to bite. Also, there is no distinctive commands from the handler, so the dog is not sure what's going on - is is obedience training, is it protection training? So, he is a bit wound up here. Overall - he scored the highest points in almost every exercise.
Doberman Blog the only thing I see in this exercise is that there were times that it appeared she couldn’t control him. It looked like he was pulling her, and that she might lose control.
But he didn't recover in 10 to 15 seconds. During trials they don't always get a bite either and need to calm themselves and be clear headed. He is wound up all through the judge talking after.
I used to say about temperament testing for any of my dobes, that they could chew the ass end out of a grizzly bear and turn around and within two seconds sit down calmly and quietly next to the infant in a baby stroller. THAT is the sign of a good temperament, imo.
This dog would fail brutally his breeding test here in Europe. In Germany especially... Please don't write such bullshit, the dog has weak nerves and is not suitable for breeding. Just 32 years experience in IPO and Schutzhund with dobermans preparing them for ZTP (European character and breeding test) and handling the dogs in international and world shows IDC. Shameless, really, not only the dog passed, but you have the guts to put it here on YT...
Totally agree. So many times she was really struggling to keep the dog off of helpers and decoy. Says a lot for how the sport has changed if this dog passed with high scores. Not a good look for Schutzhund / IPO.
This dog & owner arrived at this test totally unprepared. It is difficult to determine if the problem is temperament or not nearly enough time was spent in preparation for this test. I'm betting it's the later of the two! When walking around the arena, the dog seemed cool as a cucumber; no signs of any anxiety. However when immediately placed into a strange situation; he responded accordingly. I do feel that if this animal was put into these type scenarios through proper training; he would of yawned all the way through the test! I do believe the dog's stable. To reiterate, the owner showed up ill prepared; which made her dog look bad 😡! Was this an AKC temperament test or a German Companion B test? Normally, the Companion B test is held outside and is 50% obedience & 50% temperament test. Germans never hold anything inside.
@@RipnRev I had a hunch AKC was behind it. Have you ever seen a Companion "B" (BH) test for German dogs? It's a combination obedience/temperament test. Fail? You can take it over, but in the interim you're not allowed to go for you're SchH 1 / IPO 1 or whatever it's called now; IGF 1? Anyway, Amanda thanks for the education, I wasn't really quite sure what I was watching?
@@brendanperry6429 Yes we have that here too and I've sat in on a trial. With the BH you are expected to train while with the WAE you are not supposed to train (loose leash is allowed but not expected). They want to see the dog's natural reaction and temperament with little to no training. You cannot use commands.
It is my understanding that we are NOT to prepare for this evaluation test….it is evaluating their temperament which is innate within their breeding. It is not a learned skill.
@@terriholley4555 So, no socializing whatsoever, no environmental exposure; just leave the dog in the backyard & show up for the test & hope for the best? Is that the deal ?
Shocked that he passed when he was reactive to the friendly stranger.
Finally a "real" Doberman!! I almost forgot what one was and could do.Congratulations!!
That umbrella really annoyed the hell out of him hahaha

I would love to have seen her score, and heard judges comments. Good job.
Totally agree… High drove but I thought it was a fail
Incredible!

Superb Dobbie
Can someone tell me what behaviour from 4:58 what he is expressing (the dog)

She failed! Dog has good drive but hasn't been exposed to a lot of situations which means that it will bea walking time bomb if not corrected.
This dog actually passed… I was surprised
@@Amber-mt3cm after reading what the dog was tested for, I do agree.
This was a WORKING temperament test (WAE). This is for Protection Work.
The ATT is for stable, friendly, well socialized "average Joe" dogs.

Aahhh thank you! Makes sense .. so they are somewhat trying to assess his behaviour under no guidance?

He's really scared should've been better socialized imagine a relative/friend meeting him and he goes crazy because he's scared
Nice dog :3
Not bad👏👏👏
Yeah kinda get the dog especially if it's new for it kinda feel the woman's frustration the dog is just very alert
A dog that wasn't trained for everything in the test..
Good doggie
Ach der Regenschirm, kommt mir irgendwie bekannt vor.

This is the DPCA's WAE (working aptitude evaluation). You are not supposed to train for it as it judges temperament.

Nice to see a real Doberman that could be trained in protection, but I think he failed this test.
I like him! Looks like an European Doberman? A lot of dog no doubt :)
