Keep up the work that you are doing. This type of music needs to be preserve for future generations to hear. Thanks for your great taste In gospel music. I was born in 1980 and I was raised on great gospel like this.
The last retired group still may for special events come together consisting of Henrietta Doswell Gattison,Ellen Rose Jefferson,Ann Gardner (STu Garner's sister) and Ruby Pearson. Those girl can still sing I mean SANG. You can find Henrietta, Ellen Rose and Ann is at their church on sunday mornings and in the community still doing it. Ruby is now one of my backup singers (The Omega Singers)
The Lead Singer Doris Ann Allen past some years ago. she also was a great gospel radio dj at W.A.N.T. The New Jewels with (on the leftend -Henrietta Doswell Gattison) continue for years and just retired 2-yrs ago. (back-left) is Henrietta's sister Ellen Rose, the also are the sisters to Hosea of Hosea Productions. I'm choir director for the male chorus at their church New Chestnut Baptist Church in Mechicsville Va.
A friend of mine just shared a video of the Jewel Gospel Singers with me. I love gospel and it peaked my interest when I read that they are from Richmond, VA where I live. I read that Candi Staton was from Alabama os at some point she ended up in Richmond. Thank you for posting this video.
Wow they were off the holy hook lol hahaha I love this song n how they sang it idk why they wasn't as big as the caravans or something cuz to me they even better
@David James: You're very welcomed for the video. Candi Staton sung with a group called the Jewel Gospel Trio, which is a dfferent group. I'm uncertain of if she was a member of the Jewel Gospel Singers. Thas definitely something I should look in to.
This is a much later group, I believe, not related to the original Jewel Gospel Singers of Nashville, Tennessee, which featured Candi Staton and her sister Maggie. They started as a trio with the Staton sisters and Naomi Harrison, the great granddaughter of Bishop Jewel, who was the Chief Overseer of their church, which had many congregations in and outside the U. S. The Jewel Gospel Trio became the Jewel Gospel Singers (we're talking about the 1950s) when two more girls were added. My most wonderful childhood memories include being taken to Bishop Jewel's (The Church of the Living God, Pilar and Ground of the Truth, Incorporated, without Controversy) to hear the wonderful singing and music and dancing! I have just finished reading Candi Staton's first autobiography THIS IS MY STORY, published in 1994. She has a more recent one which I hope to read soon. I think Mavis Staples learned a lot from the Jewel Gospel Singers about moving on a stage. I'll stop here. I could go on all night about the Jewel Gospel Singers. My favorites were not the original trio--though they were wonderful--but Sederia Boles and one named Shirley, I think.
Hi Rowoches, Do you any video posts of the Roberta Martin Singers singing - not albums but all of them singing like this wonderful group? Thanks man for all you!

God may not change, but his music did change...not for the better.
And you are entitled to your opinion. Its too much music out here and too many ppl in the world to be so closed minded.
