  • I really enjoy generative music, but there's no questioning that sometimes it gets a little random. You need more than just notes to make music, you need some structure, some grammar, to orient the listener and provide context.
The Doepfer A-155 Trigger Sequencer is huge, but it has some great features that help me add that structure and create more compelling generative music. The Nonlinearcircuits Hypster adds the random aspects to the A-155's structure and together they drive the Moog Mother 32 and a couple of drums.
Let me know what you think. Have you tried a technique like this?

Thisis both great ideas and pleasing music. I have been thinking a lot about these sorts of ideas for controlled randomness and I am so glad to have found you. Subscribed!

@leiferickson3183 - Thanks, I'm glad people are still finding these older videos of mine still useful!

Great stuff, and thanks for this, the A-155 is such an underrated sequencer. The inputs at each stage are highly unusual, and really make it a complex switcher. When coupled with the A-154, it really comes into its own, and one feature I love with that combination is random one-shot sequences, where the not only which notes are chosen but the number of notes that are fired is random - great for generative music!

So glad I stuck through the speedy silence haha! Great video again, thanks for sharing :) That A-155 seems glorious. Your demos always have such sweet vibey music which I appreciate. Cheers!

Hey thanks! It's a huge beast so I don't keep it in the rack all the time, but I always enjoy it when I put it back in.

This video is full of great ideas. I've got none of the modules you used, except the Hypster .. but I think I can still apply these principles to my own rack. Thanks for the inspiration.

I'm actually trying to recreate this with other modules I have around! Glad it got you inspired, post a video of what you come up with!
