My buddy (who runs the local John Deere dealer) brought me his Z960M to use last night since the blades for my grooming mower hadn't come in yet and the grass in my field was getting out of hand. To make a long story short, I am ordering this beast today. It cut through the thickest, longest and greenest grass in my field with zero issues. It is so much quicker than my 84" grooming mower...which is almost hard to believe. I should have purchased this years ago...
That mulch on demand deck is my DREAM! It'd be great to see a full review of a Z930R/Z950R/Z970R type mower to showcase the added benefits (hydraulic deck lift, PTO button on handles, foot pads, top speed, upgraded pumps, foot brake, standard suspension seat, longer hour warranty, etc.). We see Z930M everywhere, but very few R series around. A side-by-side comparison to a M Series would be neat, too. Your videos are great!
I have a John Deere 960m and I really like the mower. The one thing I disagree with you on is the fuel consumption on this mower. The 31 hp Kawasaki does not get anywhere near 1.1 gallons per hour fuel economy. In light conditions I never did better than 1.8 gallons per hour and in heavy conditions I was pushing 2.2-2.4 gallons per hour. On average I used 2 gallons per hour while using this mower. In my opinion it is not a good option for a professional lawn care service to use due to the terrible fuel economy. This being said, it is amazing in really thick over grown yards and is a go to mower for my big yards with over grown field grass.
I've had a Z960M for three seasons now. I went with the more powerful model because I have five acres, and I have to push mowing frequency out a few times/season due to work schedules and weather. I will say - yes, it really consumes the fuel. Am I glad I bought it? Absolutely. I marvel at how that thing powers through tall, thick grass that sometimes doesn't get cut for ~3 weeks (every 2 weeks is my normal interval). And that Deere deck produces a cut quality that is pretty amazing, even with damp-to wet-grass. I have some hills and LOTS of trees. My norm is to use ~5 gallons of fuel (maybe a little less) and it usually takes me about 2.5 hours. I firmly believe I purchased the right mower!
@@bw6480 I agree with you. You bought a great mower. I don’t think you could buy a better mower than this if you are a home owner. The power is unmatched in my opinion and the cut in weedy tall grass is extremely good. For Commercial use I had to go to something else because the fuel economy was so bad and I can find mowers that can do almost the same job that use about half the fuel.
great mower I've got one my second 960😁. the only thing was the new cast iron spindles they spit grease on the deck not a problem with the aluminum spindles and no I'm not over greasing them ??? take care my friend 👍

Wish my z930m mower had a 31hp motor mine came with 25.5 kawasaki motor. But still a good motor

Deere literally advertises the fuel consumption at 1.5 - 2.2 GPH under normal conditions.

I’m thinking about getting a 2020 960m with 556 hours on it should I be worried about stuff breaking or is it just getting over the break in period
I think you should be in good shape buying this mower. They are meant for waaaaaayyy more hours than that.
