Clint's No Name characters weren't just badass gunfighters. There were often hints that they had a supernatural nature, like they were avenging spirits. In a way, a bit of horror movie influence into Westerns.
In the part where he stands in front of the burning building, look at near his waist and you can, for a moment, see the fire through him. Notice also how quickly he moves from where he is when he throws the lantern to when he's standing in front of the burning building, including crossing the street.
"that's what we're going to find out right now" The mystery man that's likely ghost immediately throws a whip over top of the door perfectly to make a noose around one of the guys neck and yanks him out and whips him to death like he was by them as soon as he says that. That's badass and great writing and just all around film making. I'm not a huge western fan but I love the westerns Clint Eastwood was in. Imo he's way better than John Wayne.
I remember as a kid wishing the three outlaws suffered more before dying, but as a adult, I'm recognizing how brutal their deaths already are compared to the usual Western lol

Everyone except Mordecai had looked on Marshall's murder pleasured but now Mordecai is the only one who is pleased when the outlaw is whipped 😂 another Clint detail 😂
Do you know who Clints' character actually is? Spoiler alert! Clint is the brother of the former sheriff that the bad guys whipped to death in that town. Fourty years of watching this movie..., and I never knew until last year.
Actually there's a popular theory stating that he IS the sherrif who made a deal with the devil to come back to life. Notice how he killed every man similar to how they killed the "sherrif".
Its the Marshall's spirit getting revenge..When the movie first starts look how he appears from nowhere in the desert.. look how he disappears when he goes back.
@@douglasboy89buckner Yes and at the end when Mordecai made description on sheriff's grave Clint said that Mordecai know his name and camera focus on grave with sheriff's name. Besides there other hints Clint's character also humilate everyone in town except Mordecai and barber because only they were against murdering sheriff and Clint's character survivedwhen they fired in the bathtub.
@@douglasboy89buckner Bingo! I love how he is mysterious to the very end. Giving the sheriff a final gravestone, his final words and disappearing at the end tied it all together.
@@Extreme96PL The movie really made you feel for him at the end. I love the final look of recognition on Mordecai's face before he rode away. I could watch that movie a million times and never get tired of seeing it.
Still my favorite Clint Eastwood movie to this day.

Who are you, don't hit me, please, and shout "who are you!! A series of words of despair and extremely deep fear!
They never show the part were he shoots him several times then stacey says who ar you again on tv
one of clint's great movies
He was a ghost of the Marshall!
I strongly believe this myself

This movie proved to the doubters that Clint Eastwood was on his way to becoming a great movie director.

The “who are you?” Reminds me of the end of equalizer 1 - almost exactly.
Sounds like stacey was scared when he yells it
"Help Me". / "I'm almost finished here". "I never did know your name". / "Yes you do". / "Yes Sir Captain".
Love the ending of this brilliant film
The premake of 'Unforgiven', with a spectral Will Munny.
A drifter who drifted around various bridges in Madison county. Liked to pack a 44 Magnum!

In the movie, the Marshall that got whipped and killed was Clint Eastwood's stunt double.
Hot time in the old town that night.
