- Get an insider look at the famous dance of the 4 little swans from Swan Lake.
In rehearsal with Pacific Northwest Ballet corps de ballet dancers Carli Samuelson, Amanda Clark, Liora Neuville and Leta Biasucci (left-right). The rehearsal is led by Rehearsal Director Anne Dabrowski.
Pacific Northwest Ballet is one of the largest and most highly regarded ballet companies in the United States, and was founded in 1972. The Company of nearly fifty dancers presents more than 100 performances each year of full-length and mixed repertory ballets in Seattle and on tour.
-------FAQ's-------
Q: Why do they wear tights over their leotards?
A: Often dancers find it more comfortable for partnering.
Q: Who are the girls doing similar steps in the background?
A: There are multiple casts for most roles: a) so the dancers don't get too fatigued on a busy performance weekend b) so more dancers get an opportunity to perform c) if anyone is injured, there is someone who can step in for them. Right after the end of this video, the other cast rehearsed the exact same excerpt.

ikr!!! 😂😂😂
People don't realize how hard these group variations are. It's like suspenseful. In a solo you can often hide a mistake and the public will never notice. In this if someone goes down the whole thing goes to hell. You cannot have an off moment ever!
Especially with this one because it has to be so precise and on count. And if you fall all four of your are going to be on the floor.
I totally get it!! They must have to live, dance, breathe, eat, and sleep this variation and know it so well inside and out - It’s so crucial that every single move has to be perfect!!
Exactly! Like I noticed right away that the woman on the far right was slightly slower than the rest at 0:34 . It barely qualifies as a difference, but because they're all lined up you can pick out every moment they're even slightly out of sync
WRONG! People do realize how hard this dance is🙂

Love the sound of their pointe shoes on the floor.
I love the taptaptap sound too.
Carla L. it's funny because some dancers get distracted by it
Ideally, the dancers should make sure their point shoes don't make noise - but as stated above, this is a REHEARSAL...

The mains are basically replaceable anytime in case they don’t do well enough or injured, so the girls before are aiming for those chances.
The one in black is outstanding - she just has something which makes her better than the others although they're good also. I don't know if it's her precision, posture or what but she's mesmerising.
Ya u r right
Rox she’s not getting quite all the way over on her left toe box. Not that I could come close, but...
@@lavonakirtley9280 I don't know enough about the technicalities of ballet to comment on that, I just thought she danced really well and I enjoyed it. For me, she was the best of the whole lot. But that's just my view.
She had her moments of not getting up but that might be because she can get the tempo atm
Rox I think her clothing is also affecting the appearance of everything. I think it's because the black makes it look better
Those legs! I can't imagine the strength.
you get extreme leg muscles from dancing, and learn to live through the pain
bobsled-philosophy
My girlfriend is super skinny but she is in ballet. Because of that she is crazy strong and is easily able to hold my weight when she has me sit on her lap. I'm like 150 lbs btw.
bobsled-philosophy Yeah you have to have a TON of muscle. Dance (especially ballet and pointe) is one of the best things to do to get you leg muscles Very freaking strong

having been a ballerina, my heart died a little for these dancers. Amazing work!
After seeing this im feeling very untalented.
+Jasmine Putri Nabila everybody does. You aren't alone!
You should know that ur talented in ur own ways. U don't have to be a ballerina to be talented u have more choices then that. Although I'm a ballerina I still feel like I'm not good enough but I know I have more talents then just dancing :)
+Purple Hearts i do ballet but compare to this im so untalented😂
U will find urself talented one day. Everyone has talents in themselves. If u try hard and pratice everyday. Dreams can become reality and talents can become true too. :D
+Purple Hearts you know that people only has one talent and it is special
I love the way they perfectly hide their tiredness til the end when...all of them clearly pant and gasp :-)
And then she's like "then we'll do it faster" ugh I couldn't imagine.
Yeah, I love how it's only two minutes but at the end they want to DIE!!!
Well it's not really a choice in ballet you smile until the curtains go or you do it again
Because she is the only one Who is wearing a long black legging
That's part of the job and believe me it's a job..I have a sister who was"in" ballet like..forever and she told me that they had to maintain an image where it was like they were always smiling..that was to hide the incredible physical discipline they are under.
Liora (the ballerina in black) retired from ballet 😱 She was so good! She DEFINITELY would have become a Principal dancer. She retired to maintain her health which is 👍👍👍 Being healthy is the most important decision after all.

+rkgk1517 No joke-look at their quads! Holy mother of pointe shoes...
When people say ballet is just "pretty" and isn't athletic, show them these girls. Proves everything ignorant about ballet wrong.
Stunning performance, incredibly talented and more importantly clearly dedicated and hard working.
I agree! Ballet is an art, but still requires physical (and mental for that matter) strength, which is what makes it so special.
Yes! Finaly someone who understands how hard it is☺️☺️
+Laraisthebomb1212 It is no joke. Ballet dancers are second only to football players when it comes to the physical demands placed on them-only they have to make it look pretty and can't grunt when they break a toenail or get another blister. To me they're more than athletes or artists. When you combine both like this-it becomes something else entirely.

Which one is Leta?
@@AisforAlibi1 Leta is on the far right. Navy blue leotard, black bottoms, headband scarf and curly hair.

When ever I see these vids I just wish my parents forced me to do dance when I was 4
UPDATE FOR EVERYONE: I posted that comment when I was like 11 I didn’t think anyone would see it. I started hiphop that year and then lyrical the next 2 years. The principal of my studio actually came to me and asked me to start ballet because she saw potential, my parents obviously couldn’t afford that so my principal ended up letting me do it for free in 2020 and 2021. I’m so grateful I got this opportunity, I’ve wanted to dance my entire life but was never able to due to money and time. I’m now turning 16 in a few months and wtf why did this comment get so much
Right ?
Im gonna get mad at my mom
Same but im a irish dancer but this is good
I mean I was forced..that’s why this reminds me of war..
hey, no matter how perfect you dance, you will anyways hate ballet if your parents forced you to do it without your desire

This was quite beautiful. Always my favorite part of the ballet. The toe work on these 4 beautiful young women was great. Would love to see your rendition in it's entirety. But I live in the NYC area.

Samee
The one in black has such a poise, and grace to her style, Absolutely beautiful.
Asian between themselves.
But my favorite one is the first dancer from the left.
I used to do ballet when I was like 9, and the way the other dancers in the background reminded me of how me and the girls of my age group would imitate our big sisters’ solos during our recitals, something we definitely shouldn’t do because they were really difficult moves and we could injure ourselves 😂😅
I remember I used to try and imitate my sister’s tarantella. Of course, having a 5 year difference meant that I could not do it at all but now I can do it perfectly fine :D
My only problem is my annoying habit of holding my breath for no reason, even when I’m just standing still. Trying hard to break it though!

This is my absolute favorite ballet piece. If one person is even just slightly off, it ruins the entire thing. But when everyone is in sync, it's stunning. I could watch this for hours.
Also my favourite ❤️
Even just dancing it by yourself is difficult enough without the additional challenge of coordinating with three others. By the time you reach the pas de chats, your body just wants to drop dead from exhaustion. Though the steps are relatively simple compared to other variations, it's the amount of stamina required that really throws you for a loop.
Fuck, look at that coordination.
The woman said they were going to do IT FASTER AFTER
Gianna Trezza yeah.. the routine is originally much faster
As Jenni says, it's about 1.5x faster in performance...
Welcome to the world of Ballet
This is one of my favorite dance routines for ballet because its so satisfying to watch and very beautiful to see the ladies so in sync with each other 💕 they did absolutely amazing!!!! 😍😍😍
What a masterpiece, the music and the dancing are both perfect and fit perfectly together. This is unreal.
Beautiful job
I love how the coach say "great job ladies, we will do it faster"
Technically the girls are excellent. They are a bit stiff at times, and need to relax a little. My favourite dancer is the one in black leggings.
the one with the blue top is my favorite
j. von Hettlingen She's also my favorite
They all look the same and sharp. The music seems sharp.
They just need to perform it to the song Hollaback Girl...⬇⬇⬇

I love how they're all doing it in the background as well.
Who would know that rehearsal could be so beautiful, thank you ladies
I agree with others, the girl in black has perfect form and is always on the beat. The eye is drawn to something like that. This looks like a very hard combination to learn.
something about seeing ballets in rehearsal, no frills, no set, just the movement and the music.... it's almost more beautiful than the ballet itself
Ikr? It seems so much more intense than the actual performance. Just like I like to watch cooking shows like "Hell's kitchen", but I sure don't care about actually eating the food. I just love to watch people working hard for their dream. It's inspiring.
I love the sound of the pointe shoes on the ground as they're dancing
Always have admired ballet dancing for its elegance, discipline and hard work.
"Ballet may look pretty... but there's steel behind it!"
Love that quote and it's so true.
when she said good we'll do it faster next time i almost died
Caria Sadrio
Believe it or not this is actually quite slow
If the music was played faster, it would spoil it!
It is fast and hard actually that is under estimating it
One of my favourite companies! Had the pleasure of dancing with them (a LONG time ago)they are amazing to work with and have a wonderful team
Epitome of talent, grace, beauty and hard work!
It's so beautiful it makes me want to cry...Ugh. What I wouldn't give to be able to do this. Their timing and synchronicity is so lovely.
i love the noise of the pointe shoes clapping on the ground!!
The posture and their facial expressions are amazing! I really love it and an amazing job girls❤️
The most intricate piece of dance their is in my opinion and so beautiful when done correctly,, well done ladies.
This looks simple and easy but it takes absolute strength and dedication to make such perfection. Lovely job ladies 👌
I agree
My mom says "Onstage for 10minutes,offstage for 10years." It makes sense actually.
It's not easy at all i have been doing ballet for 10 years now
This does not simple and easy at all. Quite the opposite.
Nope, nu-uh, no way does this look "simple and easy" . Even I, though not even able to dance the hokey-cokey, can see how precise timing combined with immense core/leg/ankle strength is imperative. Combined with prodigious stamina and the mindset to take, "Do it again", endlessly without throwing a shoe at the teacher.
Every ballet dancer from the Prima to the lowliest chorus has my fullest admiration.
"well do it faster next time," mmmk
This was rather slow for where its meant to be. Theres a reason why its known for being one of the hardest bits
What stunning, graceful athletes. The beauty and perfection of their movements takes my breath away🙂
Astonishing creatures! Leave me in awe of their grace and beauty!
I love how they look graceful and calm during the dance and then when they’re told to relax you can see how winded they actually are
Ann Merc it’s not really an option u know
This is my dream I'm an eleven year old ballerina and this is my dream I'm trying hard to get there but I need a little push I'll watch this over and over knowing that my pointte shoes will only get me so far.But that my effort is all I need
how is it going now? hope you're doing well and will become prima ballerina one day🌺

This video had made me obsessed with the cygnets' heads. I love how quick and bird-like they are! Now I'm disappointed in all the other recordings on UA-cam. Even in the really good ones the heads aren't as coordinated as in this performance.
So beautiful and they work so hard!

The dancers in the background seek to be following every move they make and copying them in certain sections. Are they backups??
Or they are just a separate group (different set of four girls) that also has to learn the dance
