- Ocean County - Manchester - Route 70 & Ocean County 547 - Brush Fire
Yesterday around 4:30PM NJFFS got a call for a reported brush fire in Manchester along the tracks in the woods at Oak St & Ridgeway Blvd. Behind the Lakehurst Diner, upon arrival, a fire along the tracks in the woods. Air Tanker 81 from Miller Air Park was quickly dispatched & in the air within minutes units on the ground coordinated, two strategic airdrops to land on the fire and help us suppression. After the main body of fire was knocked down, NJFFS used a plow to make containment lines to start back firing operations. Units on scene operated till 8:00PM due to the heavy smoke condition route 70 west bound going into Lakehurst/Manchester was shutdown. It was reopened around 8:30PM. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. The fire is now out.
The IC was B-7 & B-9. This was a Section B fire. Structure Protection was put in place for a near by pallet yard with an Lakehurst Engine from Station 62, Manchester Engine from 34 & 32.
Always amazed to see the old 1980s square body Chevy state brush trucks still doing the job.
They have seen some fires!
Are they diesel? Kind of sounds it in the video. I noticed the newer trucks seem to be gas.
B-33 is diesel if I recall. I was on it once back in late 90’s early 2000, surprised it is still going. It did/does spend the summer on island beach state park.
@@tylermacconnell217 They were probably converted to diesel if not acquired as diesel.
There's no time limit on how long you can keep a vehicle running if you have access to parts or the ability to manufacture parts like they do in Cuba. My brother drove a '70s Datsun pickup up until about 8 years ago. He got a new fire-engine red Toyota GT coupe. His son will inherit that car & a 1978 BMW 530i my brother bought new as a family car. I've never understood why people trade in cars so frequently. I drove a 2003 Toyota RAV4 until two, not one but two, lousy drivers smashed it. That car needed nothing but basics & was 100% until 2020 when it went for salvage. People drive much too fast & are distracted, fatigued, &/or impaired so often, I'll never worry for a job. I'm an ER & ICU nurse. I gave up firefighting a long time ago. Turns out nurses die of cancer just as often. Crap.
Thank you for this brush/forest firefighting video! Amazing!
They seemed to make hard work of that fire.
These guys knew what to do for sure. Saved the bridge and a yard full of pallets and a lot of woodland.
This channel has gotten so good with the videos. The videos are awesome!!!
5:58 I found the guy that’s responsible.
I just spit out my drink when I got to that. I was waiting.
Is there ever a time when the state of New Jersey is *not* burning??
There is a hydrant right there is front. No progressive hose lays to wet line the perimeter ???????????
This fire is in the Pine Barrens just south of Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst. I remember this area well from Basic Training at Dix. Pine needle carpets make for great blazes, even in damp NJ. Eastern wildfires aren't as well known because they seldom grow as big as out west but they're common enough. Maine to Florida, all states have a few each year. Heck, I've seen video of FDNY fighting a wildfire in NYC. Badly too I might add. It isn't what they're trained & experienced in.
What model camera do you use ? The footage is so impressively clear!
Canon 1dx mark ii for this video!
It should be in 4k!
Dusty Crophopper saved the day.
I like the black and yellow fire truck.
Nice looking fire trucks, decent response time
Good video!
Was this started by a thrill seeking volunteer?
What railroad line is that ?
Great video
Thank you!
looks like tracks were in process of being dismantled. by a torch?
I can't believe how close to the fire they are at the beginning And no masks or fire suits
Masks aren’t really needed, as for fire suit they are wearing fire gear head to toe, just is different then structural fire gear
So many Karen's
Brush fires require different gear. Bunker gear isn't used for brush fires
Could use a bigger air tanker
Why is the one guy adding for fire to the fire your trying to put out
Take a Forest Fire class and you'll find out.
@@williamheber2118 pass and don't tell a Womsn what to do. Kick rocks nerd
all these resources for a tiny little fire lol
Haha. What was that? 50 gallons? Why bother?😊
How do you get that close to the fire without interfering with the firefighters?
By literally standing across the street? Also how would taking photos interfere with their operations im never in the hot zone and have been doing this for years now and know exactly how close I can get.
What a lot of unnecessary burning of undergrowth and wildfire, especially so close to the road and a fire hydrant so close to the highway. Retired firefighter from the UK.

Tiny fire. They just having fun because they are bored. They could have easily put that out with 2 brush trucks.
okay big guy.
totally agree, and that tiny "air Tanker" lol even the helicopters in places like California have more volume that's a crop duster at best.
@@richd9646Jersey don’t got much but they make it work! Our fires are also not the size of the ones out west. Much of the east coast has smaller planes and choppers
They crop dust in off season.
Contre feux c'est bien mais pauvres animaux piègés😢
Is this a prescribed burn or are they back burning to contain a fire?
It’s a brush fire that they back burned to contain the fire. Description title states that.
@@jerseyshorefireresponse thanks we were out there yesterday and saw smoke but also a lot of previously burned areas
Is there some reason I’m not aware of that they didn’t tap into hydrant?
@@barbarafusco9499 what do you mean?
@@jerseyshorefireresponse in several of the shots near the road there is clearly a fire hydrant in the foreground with the fire about 15+ feet away in the background. I was wondering why they weren’t utilizing it
It's crazy that brush fires are happening in April. One would expect them in July or August.
April is peak fire season for NJ! Last year we already had like 5 major wildfires by this time. Slow this year
Here in eastern Pa. brush fire season runs in early spring before green up and in fall after growing season. These guys from Jersey fight some massive Pineland Forest fires and they know how to take care of business.
It is weird because here in Westen PA, we have been in Waterworld. We are not that far away and we will never be dry after these rains.
Too long. Edit it for heaven's sake.
