  • The little Subaru that could... this 600hp STi is a street monster that is hard to take down due to its insane launches, watch it take down some really fast cars on the street and putting down some quick passes at the track in Texas at TX2K13

    Stock internals good luck!
    My 2004 STI with 20g 8cm^2 turbo @ 22psi with full bolt ons 91 octane made 381whp/424wtq. I ran a best time of 11.88 @ 121.9
    This set up lasted 15 months then I had a melted #3 piston and bent rod. I ended up building the motor on that car 3 times before I got sick of it at sold it.
    My EVO IX with GT-X 30R ETS kit full supporting mods @ 30psi 91 octane made 456whp/409wtq and on c16 made 529whp/478wtq. Made a best pass of 11.23 @ 134 definitely has low 10's in her but I don't like to launch hard on my EVO because it's set up as a road car not drag car.
    My 2017 STI with catted invidia TBE and Cobb accessport makes 319whp/348wtq on 91 octane @18psi made a best pass of 12.44 @ 116mph.

    People saying they're making 600hp on a stock motor with a tune or turbo are delusional. That motor would never last with that much hp. Look at User1029's build on iwsti. He's running 550+whp and EVERYTHING has been built and replaced.

    • @caleb9246
      @caleb9246 3 роки тому

      Actually you're delusional because here is literal proof of it in this video, you aren't getting 10 second times out of subies with anything under 500 whp AT least, and if you maintain them/ don't drive the piss out of it everyday they will last

      For what ever reason 2nd gear can be a royal pain with the Subaru 6mt trans. All the other gears line up nice, but even clutch 100% disengaged will still resist going into 2nd at high RPM most the time. That's why I stopped trying to quick shift the 1-2 shift in my Subaru

    • @K1m_Jong_Wick

      Very well put. 6spd. stock setup is very notchy from 1-2, takes a little finesse when getting on it. Bushings and a weighted shift knob do wonders. Or you could go with a ssk for the adjustability.

    • @HahaItstheofomen
      @HahaItstheofomen 10 років тому

      I think it's because first to second gear is triple synchronised for strength...makes it a little difficult. Better than a busted second gear though. The STi gearbox is built for strength over smoothness after all...mind you my knowledge is fairly limited.

    The only reason people say subie motors are weak is because instead of a forged piston subaru uses hyper cast which is great for longevity as long as the car is tuned well. The pistons can handle 500hp easily but if the car starts pinging(detonation) hyper cast pistons were never designed to tolerate pinging so they crack. Even a stage 2 car with 300whp will crack a piston if the car is detonating. Subies are badass as fuck but the internet and all its volotile nature makes them out as garbage.

    You people are insane if you think the ej engines are capable. Ask TRP(owners of a 7 second sti) which I know its not anywhere near stock but they have other sti they have built in the 650 hp range on the stock block. Of course not stock pistons and Im sure some worked heads. Really with these engines you just gotta know what youre doing. They are nothing like building an i4. The downfall of the boxer engines are the negligence of the builders. You just gotta really know what youre doing.

      Swipez no doubt 10 sec is still fast but it's pretty much the norm here in the states. 126 mph isn't that fast. Setup like this will definitely be perfect for street runs,just hook and go.
      I believe an NA Honda hit 155mph on the 1/4 now that is plain ridiculous.

  • @RiderForge

    The benefit of the extra down force is exceeded by the cost of the increased drag when you're going in a straight line for MOST cars. The benefit of a spoiler only exceeds the cost of the drag for MOST cars when you're going through a turn at speeds over 100 mph (give or take).
    There are exceptions and some cars do benefit from a spoiler in a straight line overall, but these sorts of cars are generally not based on a production vehicle and are much, much quicker than any production-based model.

    Glad to see an sti thats driven right... because their gears are so close, and you spend so little time in 2-3-4th gears... you're really trying to get in the next gear as quick as possible.. too often you see these cars loose to terribly slow shifts.... Kudos to the driver, he seems to get it. lol

    Possibly because you won't find many full weight (spare tire included), completely stock long block STi's running in the 10's (maybe a handful). These motors, in stock form, don't like to hold this kind of power very long.
    Granted, C.J. is pretty gifted with drag racing... It's a mid-11 second car in my hands.
    You guys are right though... It's not a completely stock long block. I did remove the intake for top feed TGV deletes when I installed his ID2000's.

    No, he's talking about flat-foot shifting, you still pressing the clutch, just don't let off the throttle. Is in Power Shift that you "synchronizes" the shift with the engine without using the clutch.

    It started slipping in 5th gear when he ran an 11.1 in Kansas. At that point, we installed a 4-puck clutch and drag radials about a week before TX2K13.
    It's not 600whp, more likely just over 500whp.

    • @redoz9768

    AWD still needs downforce when taking turns at high speeds. Note that Top Fuel dragsters have big wings in the front and rear, but they are a lot lighter and have much more torque.

  • @HaloHamstur
    @HaloHamstur 11 років тому

    If drag was his problem I think he would remove the window spoiler and the hood scoop. He has a front mount intercooler with a hood scoop that's not doing anything but adding drag and cooling the engine a little.

    Removing it improves performance.
    The spoiler or my car serves ONLY two purposes:
    1)it keeps the rear window clean of dirt(by creating dirt-cathing vortex behind it
    2)makes the silhouette nicer, sexier

  • @RiderForge
    @RiderForge 11 років тому

    In that case we may be talking cost versus benefit :) Sure, it is likely that the owner has upgraded to a FMIC over the stock TMIC, bit it certainly is a lot cheaper to remove an existing spoiler than to replace the hood with a new one including better aero/weight reduction. Nonetheless, touche!

  • @mistard1
    @mistard1 11 років тому

    Because a spoiler does not produce grip at launch, and causes drag at speed. So a spoiler is litteraly just a dead weight that causes air resistance for drag racing.

  • @yamahaSHO
    @yamahaSHO 11 років тому

    CJ isn't doing any turning, so he's not too concerned about applying the minimal down force the factory spoiler provides. He's got the rear loaded up just fine ;)
