Stellar Blade better than Astro Bot? Blaz Blue better than Balatro, Diceomancer AND Shogun Showdown? Emio better than 1000xResist? I don’t know if I’d call these the only ones that matter personally.
Rebirth was seriously one of the best video games I’ve ever played. The music, graphics, combat, story, characters, mini games, world; everything clicked together so perfectly.
My favorite game of the year is one I feel didn't get nearly enough attention, Hironobu Sakaguchi's latest masterpiece Fantasian. Fantasian is a modern J-RPG with the heart and soul of a PS1/PS2 era classic. No doubt in my mind that if this game came out back in the 90s/early 2000s it would've sold millions of copies and even to this day still be heralded as an all time classic. Fantasian has an emotional narrative full of rich themes and plenty of surprising twists, a memorable cast of characters, strategic combat that is both fun and challenging and manages to innovate on a tried and true formula in clever ways, a truly unique art style and presentation with beautiful handcrafted dioramas and a masterfully composed OST by one of the best composers in the business. Fantasian is a game that was meant to be the last for many people, meant to be a swan-song and celebration of multiple careers, a true labor of love and passion and I can't recommend it enough to anyone who is looking for that old school Final Fantasy fix or just J-RPGs in general as it is easily one of the finest turn-based J-RPGs that I have ever played and a true masterwork that all deserve to experience.
I completely agree with Emio award, it's really good, that epilogue broke my heart. I didn't play a lot of this years releases, but my favorites are Romancing saga 2 remake, Emio, and Mario and Luigi.
Hey Azario! I just wanted to say how much this list meant to me. I loved your intro just as much as your list all the way to the end. You're a heck of a guy and we all need to exercise humility and have fun with what we love. Video games 🎉❤
So, I think, I´m gonna present my list: Best Nintendo Game: Mario and Luigi Brothership A lot of folks didn´t really like that game, what a shame, it was awesome. Best Sony Game: Astro Bot Really hard to beat the little bot, it was a really brillant, this was a great year for plattformers! Best JRPG: Ys X: Nordics I think it was weaker than its two predecessors, but still very high on my list, that shows how high the uality of the series is! Best Horror Game: Crow Country A really charming Survival-Horror-game with gread level- and puzzledesign, great artstyle! Best Action-Game: Stellar Blade A fantastic first game from Shift Up with a variety on display which we often don´t see in the genre. I expect greatness from them in the future. Best Story: 1000xResist A fantastical philosphical story with multiple layers of perspectives. A masterpiece, slightly overthroning Mouthwashing for best story. Biggest Surprise Hit: Decline´s Drops A great 2D-Plattformer in the style of Smash Bros. Subspace Emmisary with a really fun combat system. The OST is absolutely phenomenal, by far the best in 2024, everyone needs to hear it! Game of the Year: Bakeru Sadly overshadowed by Astro Bot, this is a fantastic plattformer by Good-Feel and an absolut delightfully trip across a fantasy Japan. It edgeds out Astro Bot thanks to a its creative leveldesign ideas and an extremely fun combat system. It was sadly already forgotten by most, but it will always live on in my heart!
I know the editing and production process can be very exhausting in content creation, but you may want to slow down and redouble the proofing process as you mispronounce several words Quont instead of quaint for example. It happens. Nice list though and I have enjoyed Noisy Pixel’s work this year.
Rebirth is my game of the decade so far but I think PT 3 will surpass it for me. My two favourite sections of og haven't happened yet and Yuffie who's been my favourite since the start hasn't had her big story set piece yet it's looking really good. Stellar Blade takes the #2 spot for me, It ignores a lot of the pitfalls of modern games over explaining and bogging you down with stuff. It lets you focus on actually playing and the crazy amount of outfits makes the exploration and side questing rewarding.
I thought 2024 was a really solid year for games. A few highlights for me that you missed were prince of Persia the lost crown, unicorn overlord, balatro, paper Mario TTYD & animal well.
Good to see Stellar Blade in one of these videos, hands down one of the best games released last year but I haven't seen it mentioned in many other GotY discussions.
Unicorn Overlord was easily my goty. And Sword of Convallaria was another great srpg, snd my runner-up. Visions of Mana was the biggest surprise, exceeding all my expectations. And then Path of Exile 2 and Marvel Rivals at the end of the year have both been pretty great too! The biggest let down of the year for me was Eiyuden Chronicle. I *did* enjoy it, but i thought coming into 2024 that it would be a goty challenger, and that wasn't even close to what happened 🫤
Happy 2025 Nerds. Love you have a "Biggest Disappointment" award. Can I ask what the other shortlisted games were aside from the clear winner/loser 😅. Also love to see Kunitsu-Gami getting some love. Hopefully it sold well enough for Capcom to continue experimenting with things like this in the future.
I'm still working through both Daybreak and Metaphor, but I just finished chapter 2 of Daybreak and it edges out Metaphor just a bit thus far, imho. My first Trails game!
Tohsaka in the thumbnail, can only happen on Noisy Pixel 🙂I hope we'll see Hollow Ataraxia and/or the second part of Tsukihime in 2025. FFVII Rebirth was amazing. It's almost scary that a game that good "didn't meet expectations".
I was not against Zelda getting her own game, but I WAS against them not just giving her a weapon like she has in other games like Hyrule Warriors, and instead makng Echoes of Wisdom a Tears of the Kingdom-light, where instead of the traditional puzzle format of "one solution for everything", they took a page from the console games and made the player able to use her echo ability to cheese everything. Like, when I play a Zelda game and the solution to get Zelda over a gap is to make a bridge... out of stacked beds, instead of pulling a switch or something of that nature, I am no longer playing a Zelda game... I am playing a parody fangame. I mean at one point in a dungeon I used the bed-strategy and instead of feeling smart for solving the puzzle, my first thought was one of doubt: "Was that the right way to do that? Because it didn't FEEL right. It felt like I cheesed it", and NO Zelda game should have me feel like that. I said it back with Breath of the Wild in 2017 which I picked up, and I said it again in Tears of the Kingdom in 2023 which I didn't (initially) pick up: If this is the new route Zelda is taking, then this i my stop.
Slave Zero X Dragon's Dogma 2 Tekken 8 Silent Hill 2 Stellar Blade as my GOTY Huge disclaimer. I haven't had the chance to play Like A Dragon Infinite Wealth and FF Rebirth so my list may change when i get around to playing them.

2024 has ton of good games tbh but still my GOTY is Metaphor and this is my first Atlus game. My guilty pleasure GOTY is EDF 6 (hundreds of hours in and still counting) 😂👍
Love to see the time stamps but you might want to check the last one to make sure there is a GOTY stamp. I skipped to the end, saw "biggest disappointment" while FFVII Rebirth was playing and thought you had all lost the plot 😅😅
Stellar Blade, Astro Bot & Wukong. I hope to have time to play FF7 Rebirth and Metaphor this year. Could not disagree more on Hellblade 2 though... such a disapointment. Its not even a game at this point.
Zelda Wisdom was good and I did beat it but it was actually repetitive. Not a variety packed Zelda game and felt like a quick make to a quick buck. I think we deserved better.
People take FF7 reb for granted! If it wasn’t released in February and was not a middle child of a trilogy- there would have not been even any discussions on what is the goty of 2024! It is by far the best jrpg in the last 10 years with dq11, nier automata and persona 5
Metaphor is fantastic, but Trails Through Daybreak did the hybrid battle system first and arguably did it better. That's my personal #2 JRPG of the year just short of first place because there's no beating FFVII Rebirth!
Haven't played Re:Fantazio. But I am waiting for the eventual Switch 2 release which most likely will be a director's cut... why do I know this? Because it's a top selling Atlus title and Atlus will do an Atlus... If they can milk that game for more sales, they will do so!
Nothing noteworthy at all, where's the indies? Windblown, hades II, animal well, nine sols, no rest for the wicked, neva, crypt custodian, still wakes the deep?
Yikes. This is what I meant about learning humility 🤦♂️ if you don’t see the weirdness of the video game community, I don’t know if I can help ya. - Azario
The only GOTY awards that matter since this team covers FAR more varied genres of games than any media outlet I've seen.
Yea. That’s why I put that indie list together. Too many games we covered this year that deserve recognition. Thank you for hanging out - Azario
That's the biggest reason I am subscribed to this channel, I have found through it lots of interesting games that no one else covers.
🙏
Stellar Blade better than Astro Bot? Blaz Blue better than Balatro, Diceomancer AND Shogun Showdown? Emio better than 1000xResist?
I don’t know if I’d call these the only ones that matter personally.
Funny how small team like theirs manages to review far more games than far bigger teams.
Rebirth was seriously one of the best video games I’ve ever played. The music, graphics, combat, story, characters, mini games, world; everything clicked together so perfectly.
Based. it really delivered and it's going to be hard to one up in this next installment, but I'm so ready for it.
agreed
Shame it is woke as fuck though.
I discovered you guys last year and I’m so happy I did, you guys PLAY games. Proud to be part of this community, you guys are great.

You're right! Fantasian is great. I played it on the Apple Arcade. Any JRPG fan should probably think about picking it up - Azario
I really enjoy this channel & appreciate the unimaginable work that goes into its quality. Happy new year, Noisy.
FF7rebirth is a masterpiece. As soon as they announce a release window for part 3 im going to play thru remake and rebirth again to get ready for
I completely agree with Emio award, it's really good, that epilogue broke my heart.

Yeah how is the zelda game better than that?
@@아웃겨후후 Yeah, that's a bummer. I wish that they would port it to PC so PC players can enjoy it.
A little sad that there wasn't a nod to 1000XRESIST but I'll definitely have to check yalls pick for surpruse hit
Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, P3 Reload, SMT V Vengeance, Unicorn Overlord: don't forget those great JRPG's too !

Great list! Looking forward to the outstanding video game coverage for the upcoming year!
Glad to see Rebirth as your game of the year. I love Metaphor but Rebirth... man I just couldn't put it down
One of you at NP is a big Type Moon fan and I'm here for it.
Really loved this format, nice work.
Tsukihime was my GOTY, but I also loved FF7 Rebirth. Great list overall

Stellar Blade, Rebirth, Emio, Visions of Mana, Metaphor, Tekken.
It was a damn good year, games-wise at least.

SH2 Remake was my GOY until I started Black Myth Wukong. Now I'm not so sure.
Both good games!
I thought 2024 was a really solid year for games. A few highlights for me that you missed were prince of Persia the lost crown, unicorn overlord, balatro, paper Mario TTYD & animal well.

The one and only GAME OF THE YEAR 2024 is Silent Hill 2. It's pure perfection
Super good pick!
My little surprise hit was Yars Rising on Nintendo Switch, where I saw the review here. It's a lovely made Metroidvania and exceeded my expectations.
The music is super good too for absolutely no reason lol
Keep it up. Gaming needs noisy pixel!

Too bad for no Harold Halibut. That game deserve more love.

I would give best horror game to Shipwrecked 64
As someone who's only played the original and is waiting to delve into the remake trilogy, I don't appreciate the spoiler(s). Solid video otherwise.
Oh shit did we spoil FFVII Rebirth!? Please use the timestamps to skip. I’m sorry - Azario
@NoisyPixelNews No worries. Plenty of other pieces had hinted towards major story changes so I had a good feeling that involved character's fates.
