That's so exciting! I'm glad my videos have helped 😊 If you're just getting started, you might find the Zettelkasten system interesting as well. I just put out the second part of my videos on it, explaining how I template my system in Obsidian and use it to get to publishable notes: Part 1: The Theory ua-cam.com/video/worpx0LOeII/v-deo.html Part 2: The Practice ua-cam.com/video/00LKsV8h6zY/v-deo.html Happy to answer questions and good luck on your PKM journey 🫡
My pleasure! glad you found it helpful 😊 there's no additional plugin needed! When you open "linked view" as "local graph" you can expand the "filter" button and the depth option appears
Do you have any alternative suggestions for the Auto Note Mover plugin? It's clearly been abandoned as it's not had an update in 3 years... which is a security risk. I'll certainly be making use of the Dataview and Templater sections, ta, as it's not something I know how to currently use. 🙂
I do not have an alternative, sorry! But in terms of security risk, it's very, very low, because in the worst case scenario where it stops working, you can just set a hot key for the move file function in the command bar and move your notes manually 🤷♂can even batch move them. I know some people have created forks from the github repo, but that's a bit more work to install these updated versions. My guess is that if the Auto Note Mover Plugin ever stops working, someone will very quickly create a new plugin that does the same functionality, forked from the original. Glad to hear it! I hope the Dataview and Templater help 😊I use them every day!
@@Wanderloots ta for that. I just am very cautious in using anything that's not been updated in quite some time. I'll definitely be using the notes created and edited code snippets, ta! 🙂
@@toranshaw4029 No problem! That's for sure a good caution to have haha. I know some people run python scripts in their vaults, so it's also possible that you might be able to take the code from Auto Note Mover Plugin and adapt it to be a script within Obsidian, rather than a separate plugin. Then you should, in theory, never have to worry about an update messing with the functionality of your automated system.
Really good vault structure and workflows. Thank you for introducing. Can we have this vault for as demo vault to have structure and your workflows as well to solidify the basis use with appropriate use cases.
Thank you very much! I'm glad you found it helpful 😊 This is actually my personal vault, so I will not be making it public. You can take a look at my digital garden for the notes from this vault that are publicly available: ua-cam.com/video/en56OKg5hyc/v-deo.html I'm working on a vault to share with people as part of my next video, but I may make it a download for people in my cheapest tier of membership on UA-cam, as it takes me a lot of time & energy to set up and make ✨
Ah tbh, I think that is just a glitch in the way the digital garden plugin displays the tags once published 🙃 Each of those is a single # in my actual vault. Also, I just shared a new video that goes more into depth on tags, you might find it helpful: ua-cam.com/video/sZxYau21D20/v-deo.htmlsi=V2nAVfFotLuRiaSz
so glad to hear it! Was there anything in particular you found the most helpful/interesting? I believe it is the "Atom" theme, dark mode. I thought it was fitting as part of my molecular note system haha
Hey Callum. That's a pretty solid system you put together for organizing your vault! Thanks for sharing it. I've been thinking about it a lot as well, and built a plugin called File Organizer 2000. We have over 1k users and are growing, but the product is still a bit rough around the edges. You got a really good grasp of that problem and I'd be curious to hear if the plugin could improve your flow. Would you be interested in trying it out? Happy to provide you with a license key. Let me know 🙏
@@Wanderloots Thanks! There are free and paid plans. But happy to send over a license for our monthly subscription on us!. What's the best way to send it over to you?
@@Wanderloots I think I'll be reviewing your video, because you show cool examples of templates and data view code. And thanks for link of data view query builder. 🙂
@@Wanderloots I wold like to know how you use your folder. The plugin moved your note to folders, so you can identify those notes and add to dataview table results. So I can't figure out how else to use folders.
Honestly, that's about the only way I use them! I find it helpful for my digital garden, because I have a folder that includes all of the published notes in my garden, so it's easier to browse them that way. I can also use it as part of my "zettelkasten" system (working on a video explaining that actually), where it can be helpful to ~only~ review notes from a specific folder because I know that all of the notes are in my own words, rather than from other sources. I'd say keep building out your system as you go, using folders (or not), since Obsidian allows for a lot of emergent structure (which I talk more about in my last video: ua-cam.com/video/d2BkvqbTPjk/v-deo.html )
@@Wanderloots in general, your videos help expand my understanding of whats possible with obsidian, and using uncomplicated workflows. This video in particular helps me answer that niggling question once and for all "should i use notion instead?"
Amazing! thanks for letting me know 😊 Completely agree, I tried Notion and really liked it from a UI perspective, but from a future-proofing myself & customization perspective, Obsidian is so much better. ah thanks so much for letting me know! UA-cam was supposed to create automatic chapter markers but it looks like they aren't there. Will update the description to include the chapters 🫡 In the meantime, I put title pages in each location so you should be able to scrub easily 😊 Was there anything in particular you were looking for?
haha thanks! I would say the best way to start is to just pick 1 or 2 features (or plugins) and then just get going. The rest of the system will only make sense the more you use the software as part of your every day life. The automatic inbox portion with the auto-note moved plugin can be set up in less than 5 minutes, so it's actually really easy to start-off with some automatic organizing (no need to get into dataview if you don't want to) Happy to answer any questions! 🫡
@@ashu_unleashed hmm I don't think there's anything wrong with automatically organizing your folder structure 🤔 setting it up once means you never have to spend any time organizing again, which lets you prioritize your ideas & content for the future. You could have your folder structure set up in less than 5 minutes I bet. Dataview I agree is a rabbit hole that you can get caught in, but I use it to surface insights based on my recent work, so it actually saves me a ton of time with finding my important notes. I recommend the auto-note mover as the most simplistic version of the set-up, but of course, each person has their own system that works best for them.
