*As I listen to it, they really have captures the ESSENSE of how those Rack Modules from the 80's and 90's use to sound when you flipped through the presets. I MEAN THEY NAILED THAT ESSENCE!*
*Leon, the way you feel right now, running through that pedal; THAT WAS HOW IT FELT back in the day, going into a local music store and plugging into a MULTI-EFFECTS unit and basking!*
As always, I enjoy your demos, chock full of great playing and concise tutelage. The MX arrived with perfect timing. Like many guitarists, I've unloaded too many reverbs to list and have been recently oogling a few contender replacements -- Meris Mercury X, Boss RV 500, Strymon NightSky -- but just could not commit for fear of just flipping whichever won. (I was even considering putting together a Eurorack for the StarLab.) Anywho... perfect timing. And by golly, it sounds super swell. And yes please: IRs plus other 'verbs 👍
This is probably my favorite bigsky mx demo video - largely because you focused on rock/metal and not just ambient tones but also just your regular enthusiasm. Honestly I love the MX and it has a permanent place on my board after my Kemper Player and Meris LVX. Though I do suffer a bit of decision paralysis since there are so many great presets and uses. Do you still own an MX? Do you use it as part of your setup? Would love to see what practical song-based rhythm and lead settings you ended up with.
@@LeonTodd I'd be interested in a 2025 rig rundown showing your lead, rhythm and clean tones and the presets. For example, my lead tone I use the Dark Buckets Meris LVX delay preset and the RockThPlates BigSkyMX reverb preset - either that or CrnchFatRoom but I feel like I'm playing it safe you demoed some great tones with the bloom that I'd like to dial in better. ShowTime and Sunset Strip are great but I get cautious about over doing it, though I'm only playing very small venues and really don't have to worry too much.
Will they update the plugin with these new features and reverbs? I hope so with what it cost. I loved it and had to buy it. Use it in my daw everyday. I just hope they will provide updates like this to the plugin for all the people who have bought the super pricey plugin.
Just got the BigSky MX after watching your review, sounds so big! Any chance to share your preset parameter on the opening? ("MEGA" preset), I somewhat followed how your created it in the video but didn't get the parameters right yet.
I have the BigSky MX ... and, my new Fractal FM9 MKII Turbo shipped today! My goodness, what's the Fractal setting for that front-end "play-in" tone? ... wwwwooooozzzzzer! is that preset available? keep up the awesome videos. You are a wealth of knowledge and inspiration to keep trying to get better. Thank you! 🙂
It’s now priced the same as Meris big box pedals (more or less) and I just don’t see the same level of control or range of sound. I like the Strymon sound but I’m not sure I’m fond of their go to market strategy. For clarification I own a cloudburst, big sky and timeline. I don’t see myself upgrading.
Man, I'd love to. I've been suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome and my pick hand falls asleep while holding a pick for 3 0 seconds. Love watching you play!
Can we load in real space IRs like the ones from Poly Verbs? This is a good all in one unit to be able to run separate reverbs before and after drive for some weird stuff, and only needing to control one unit!
The dual engine feature makes me want one. I like running two amps with identical reverbs. I hope strymon comes out with a true stereo version of the Volante, rather than summing the inputs.
Is the sound at the beginning a preset and is it called mega? and in the latch mode when you play over the sound can you still have a reverb or is it a dry signal

Current mantra: I have a Fractal, I don’t need this. I have a Fractal, I don’t need this. I have a Fractal, I don’t need this. I have a Fractal, I don’t need this. 😂 Glorious tones Leon 👍
The price tag is really high, I don't get the point why to get this pedal when u can get reverb studio racks from 90's (Lexicon,Eventide,Tc,Ensoniq, Etc...) that way more realistic to actual spaces than that.
The fact that it's a pedal, can run 2 simultaneous verbs and can run off a pretty generic power supply makes it a lot more appealing to a lot of people. I love old rack stuff but size/price/reliability make it hard to justify in a lot of cases.
Different vibe / algorithms I suppose. Newer reverbs definitely have a different feel than something more metallic like the Lexicon 200 reverb. I love both personally.
Yer tones a little dry in this intro m9?! Utterly glorious, telling myself I really really don't need this, but you're not helping! Hope all's well dude.
It's really cool but it's the same price as buying a Source Audio Ventris AND a Poly Verbs xD I'd love to see a LT video on the Dynamic reverbs on the HX and Helix. Plug in the Helix Native and give us a tour on how you set those reverbs, Leon!
I know you are demonstrating the pedal but your choice of how much mix you put on often gets in the way of us hearing what the real-world sound would be with a more subdued amount of reverb.
Yeah reverb pedals in particular are tricky to demo - trying to demonstrate the possibilities leads to big ambient sound, but most of the time we only need a little
UAFX Golden Reverb..great classic variations on Spring, Plate, Hall reverbs with a few different choices of each style. Physical knobs to control all the changes and really high quality realistic reverbs.

Fantastic demo as always Leon. This thing sounds so good! Looking forward to an updated Timeline😁
You and me both!
Was looking for a demo that wasn't just clean sounds and this is it 👍
Woohoo , Strymon already had the best reverbs (from what I've noticed) and they just made the ultimate reverb pedal, pretty cool.
You are a damn good player.
He plays the same riff in every video, one trick pony.
Much appreciated mate!

Yeah I have it on a board with my Friedman IR-J, Strymon DiG & EHX POG2

The 480... it just gets me every time.
Nothing else like it
Glorious indeed! Alll the sauce!
LT delivers the goods every time killer video 🤟🏻
Thoughts on the bigsky reverbs vs the fractal reverbs?
I think they're both top tier. The Strymon Ensemble is pretty unique and I love the Fractal plates and "clouds".
Awesome review and demo. You showcase gear in a very unique way 🙂
Thought of this in your rig when I was doing this ;)
@@LeonTodd Scrambling around the room looking for things to sell 😉 You had me at the MEGA preset!

Sweet Tones and nice licks there Bro!
sounds awesome …. I have this pedal … it’s pure ambient bliss. great playing … are you running the BigSky MX through your Fractal FM9?
Yep, Fractal for the amp tones

Great video, I'd love to see a comparison between the Big Sky mx vs the new Poly Effects Verbs Pedal.
Ive been going back and forth on getting the cloud burst or the blue sky I guess this solves that
Love your channel and your playing. You use pedals with some actual gain and riffs! How do you like this compared to the verbs on the H90?
Hahaha cheers mate, gotta have some gain in there! They've both got some amazing verbs but the Ensemble mode and shimmer on this are pretty special
Killer pedal, killer video! ❤
Thank you for using some high gain with this reverb pedal.
My pleasure!!
Does this do Delay & Reverb or only Reverb? Are you using delay in the video? I hear delay.
Magneto has delay

Exactly what I thought when I heard about this pedal. I am in the market for a reverb and I will be going with the Mercury X over this.
Meris over this all day, any day.
MERIS Mercury X is the king, everyone in the know knows this..
AUD$1250 is insane
Thanks, you're the best!
Man, I'd love to. I've been suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome and my pick hand falls asleep while holding a pick for 3 0 seconds.
Love watching you play!
I'll wait to see if there's going to be a TIMELINE MX
Same here!
Kind of surprised that the Timeline MX didn't appear first!
Can we load in real space IRs like the ones from Poly Verbs?
This is a good all in one unit to be able to run separate reverbs before and after drive for some weird stuff, and only needing to control one unit!

more IR demo please. I had lots of fun with Space Designer in Logic with convolutions

Yes, it's a preset i created - Cloud running into Shimmer
Hope they will do a Timeline update!
They’ll do a Timeline and a Mobius.
Do you like the H90 more?
I like the rooms/halls/plates on this more. The H90 is obviously a different animal as it does pitch/delay/mod/distortion too.

it's a instant buy for me if they offer a Midnight Black Edition, and they get rid of the green screen, and update it to white or blue.

I'll do a follow up demonstrating the subtle "real" spaces
monochrome screen at that price point is sad
I grow a little tired of hearing ambient sounds on reverb demos. I am searching for more real-world band ettings on sounds like 60's/70's pop rock.

Meh. I like keeping my money more. Next!
What good is money if you can't use it to get some siiiiiiick gear?
Ugly visual design compared to the original... Strymon is just a legacy company these days. They dont innovate any more
R u serious? Strymon did an UPGRADE... Not something new. Consider that. And this is such a successful upgrade!
@@XPJV this "upgrade" comes about 15 years too late. And its a hack job
What are they taking a pathetic page out of Fenders book? OVER PRICED! JESUS!
To me, the overuse of effects just emphasizes the obvious lack of actual musicianship and musical concept of the player.
Well that's my excuse
Define overuse.
Nah! Shit still sounds like shit! Take Nirvana, for example.
Shoegaze players sweating bullets
Make a video, play for us? So we can see actual musicianship, obviously.
