I found out that you have to long press the edge lighting area on the screen and it will bring up a bunch more options. I just thought it was the on/off button but it provides a lot more stuff. I hope this helps

Not a probelm, the missis was very happy to learn she could have her phone light up like a rainbow and have live kittens for her wallpaper! Its a shame however that the edge lighting doesn't work with WhatsApp, even though there is the option for it (not here in the UK anyway)

I also would like to see the ability to add time to this feature. Often I'm not staring right at the phone and I wish I could just come in the room and see the light still on and know I missed a notification.
I must be doing something wrong. I tried this with "screen off" and it doesn't work with the screen off. I tried numerous app too, hangouts and a 3rd party sms app. I have the always screen on option turned off but even when I turned that on it still didn't work with the screen off :(
U have to do it from a 3rd party For some reason it doesn't work with the Messaging app that Samsung provides it only works with different messaging apps like WhatsApp or an app called mood

Great videos very helpful. I only have 1 question. I see the notification comes up really small alot of people have that on the s8 is that on when the edge light is on. When one comes up it's the big box but I see people with small ones.

+Shohedul Islam If you select always it show light up all the time. I have not found a way to increase the time yet. In the phone settings you can search for Flash Notifications. This will enable the entire screen to flash on all notifications. Not the same, but it might help.

+potterword1 It is automatically enabled, your phone just has to be facing down on a flat surface when a call comes in. Others have said it is not working for some reason so I will see if I can find more details.

I found out that you have to long press the edge lighting area on the screen and it will bring up a bunch more options. I just thought it was the on/off button but it provides a lot more stuff. I hope this helps

Not a probelm, the missis was very happy to learn she could have her phone light up like a rainbow and have live kittens for her wallpaper! Its a shame however that the edge lighting doesn't work with WhatsApp, even though there is the option for it (not here in the UK anyway)

I must be doing something wrong. I tried this with "screen off" and it doesn't work with the screen off. I tried numerous app too, hangouts and a 3rd party sms app. I have the always screen on option turned off but even when I turned that on it still didn't work with the screen off :(

I have it set for always on and all apps, yet it only works for the built-in messages app. Nothing else lights the edge. Disappointing.

Great videos very helpful. I only have 1 question. I see the notification comes up really small alot of people have that on the s8 is that on when the edge light is on. When one comes up it's the big box but I see people with small ones.
+marvin howard So it all depends on what size of font that you have set on your phone. So if your font sizes is large it will show up large.

+Shohedul Islam If you select always it show light up all the time. I have not found a way to increase the time yet. In the phone settings you can search for Flash Notifications. This will enable the entire screen to flash on all notifications. Not the same, but it might help.

Hey Brett, new android user and I was wondering if there is a way to make other messages do that drop down preview like the text messages app does. For example when I get a new email in my screen is unlocked if the subject or some type of review of the alert that just came in we drop down from the top automatically without me having to pull down the shade
It depends on the app. Some of them support the drop down and others just don't.
