The selfishness and violence of the galaxy made them this way, the Endless who everyone else worships did this horrible thing and made monsters out of them, their actions are just retribution for that. In a way the Cravers by their very existence are holding up a mirror to the rest of the galaxy and showing them that they are no better than them, and well they aren't, it's not like the other species are 100% pacifist and they do the same things, the Cravers are just honest about it. The Unfallen might be the only species in the entire galaxy that really have a leg to stand on as they are clearly the polar opposite of the Cravers and actually stand by that, I'd love if there was a quest line in the game about this where the Unfallen are species wide therapists for the Cravers.

Do you require visual conformation, like with necrophage faction, to see that that these insect-cyborgs are massively consuming organic material for its nation to survive? We know fully well that if the cravers do not expand, they will overexploit their worlds, leaving only empty husks behind.
So the Cravers are basically a more terrifying (in aesthetic) version of the Orks from 40K: Ancient beings created by an even older, extinct civilization that made everything else. Were also made for war and nothing else, and when their creators disappeared, they didn't install an Off switch for their living weapons. Both still fight to fight for fighting's sake because that's what they were created for.
One thing I would like to see, possibly in a future expansion (or whatever game is next for the Endless franchise), would be a questline where a sect of Cravers endeavours to find a way to quiet their eternal hunger and overexploitative nature. It'd be an interesting way for them to break the cycle and truly cast off the shackles of their masters.
Well they are still slave drivers even without their total war instincts, they would stop attacking everyone but will still be the nasty overseer another power may exploit to keep the races in line while contributing resources to their cause.
What I’m wondering is why the Vodyani don’t practically worship the Cravers. The Vodyani church is focused around the Virtual Endless, as their tech was used to digitize the Vodyani into their current form. So if that’s the case, wouldn’t the Vodyani see the Cravers as angels? After all, they were created by the Virtual Endless, the Vodyani’s gods, to enact their seemingly divine will and wrath upon the Concrete Endless. If the lore on this is expanded in Endless Space 3, I can guarantee it would be fascinating.
Because Cravers were made by the *Concrete* Endless. Virtual Endless wouldn’t have been concerned with anything but using Dust to upload their consciousness into server decks or something.
Cravers scare the shit out of me in every game. They either relentlessly attack you or stay out of vision for 30 turns and then pull up with a 20 ship fleet that puts Isander's to shame and absolutely destroy me.

the timeline is the same,this isnt a continuation. many of the major factors from the previous games have been relegated to minor faction status (think city states from civ V) , minor factions can be taken over and their populace integrated into your empire

I'd draw the comparison to Xenonorphs given tech and uplifted, or to stick to 40K, Tyranids without the synaptic overmind. The reason I'm going with xenomorph specifically is because there's no Craver Waagh!, overmind, or anything like that, no ego nor superego, just pure id. There's more they have in common with xenomorphs too, the reproduction cycle that disgusted and scared the Virtuals so much they tried to bury their creation, the hive structure, there's an in-game event if you have Cravers in your empire that ends with a bishop spontaneously mutating into a queen to fill the vacant role. That type of thing.

I'd draw the comparison to Xenonorphs given tech and uplifted, or to stick to 40K, Tyranids without the synaptic overmind.
The reason I'm going with xenomorph specifically is because there's no Craver Waagh!, overmind, or anything like that, no ego nor superego, just pure id.
There's more they have in common with xenomorphs too, the reproduction cycle that disgusted and scared the Virtuals so much they tried to bury their creation, the hive structure, there's an in-game event if you have Cravers in your empire that ends with a bishop spontaneously mutating into a queen to fill the vacant role. That type of thing.
The song that plays here is not "Cravers Prologue" or "Driven by DNA", right?
I think it is Craver Prologue and Driven by DNA is the extended full version.

Ok, screw other sci-fi universes: I REALLY want to roam this galaxy and learn more. We need either a Fallout 1-2 style RPG or a core rulebook for GMs. I'd buy and play both.....and i'm already on endless 2 of course.

I am not an astrophysicist but I don't think that's right to call "orbit". They don't burn in the atmosphere and they were pulled by the gravity, that means dropship speed below First Space Velocity so they are somewhere below 50km (31 miles).

I think they hunger for battle, not flesh.
They need biological material, otherwise they eat each other out in order to sustain their population. Without proper expansion and conquest they would be forced overexert their planets' resources, leaving only empty husks behind. Yeah... come to think of that they are more like tyranids rather than necrons.
