Outstanding series CMDR. Kind of bittersweet to find this game in 2022 as well as this master class, only to find out that's all there is. I will have to appreciate what I have. I love space sims because they make me think, and I love seeing how others think and where their own a-ha moments are. Your tips and calm instruction will for sure help in any 6DOF game as well as flying a quadcopter. Sure wish my quad had headtrack!
Mr Hobbs, are you going to be releasing the next level of training for FAoff? I thought that your series of FAoff tutorials here are excellent! I hope you are well, and that you will be able to release some more superb instruction in the near future!
I'll copy/paste the comment I left on reddit because this needs to be said: Man, this is super engaging and well-presented. A lot of the regimented training reminds me of actual ground/flight school. Very nice job. A great watch for experienced and inexperienced pilots alike. Hell, actually kind of interested in the group now as well. Thanks for the incredible work and effort that went into this! P.S. Are you some kind of educator IRL? Maybe vehicular or flight training? A lot of this reminds me a lot of what I went through when training up to my Glider Licence.
I would like to say a big "THANK YOU" for you, because with your FAOFF tutorial series I am now able to fly without that assist and I can totally control my ship as I want.
Brilliant series, now flying faoff permanently. I tried going through the trenches of a station before starting this series and couldn't stay inside the trench for more than a couple seconds. Huge improvement after going through these.
I was thinking of returning to Elite after years of inactivity (bringing a friend in). So I was browsing guides and summaries to catch up, and I've stumbled upon your beginner FAoff series (my curiosity was immediately picked). And what an exciting prospect you've opened to my eyes! Now I feel that I must try these exercises, this will absolutely make the game more interesting. Thank you!
Thank you! I can't remember where I got it from but it was a while ago. I've been using it for a bit now. I really like it. 0.2, 0.05, 2 -0.15, 2, -0.5 1.75, -1, -0.3
Please come back and do the Intermediate Training! These 5 vid you did are amazing, if it wasn't for these plus some help from the current Newtons Gambit cmdrs i would never have managed FA off.
Thanks Lugims. Unfortunately, I don’t play anymore. One of the reasons is not having a stick anymore (my old one broke). I’ll get one eventually. But even so, I kind of needed a break you know. Thanks for the comment and I’m happy you’re getting something out of it!
any chance you will revive this channel and do the "intermediate" series? or maybe "advanced FA off school"? because only your videos thought me something. ty
that last exercise was really hard indeed, but I finally made it. Well, this was an awesome tutorial, I really look forward to keep practicing them and get better at them all. o7 commander!
Yeah I’m gonna try this out once I get a joystick tried with a mouse and keyboard but it all seamed a bit jerky. Though I guess I’ll keep trying every now and then. Anyway great video some impressive flying thanks for sharing
You may be around anymore, but if you are, thank you for the wonderful series! I've been slowly implementing it into my elite play and it's wonderful! Do you happen to have your binds available, if so, any chance you can share them? Specifically throttle, I feel that hotas throttles are a bit too stiff for the fast throttle changes needed to cancel momentum
Moxen Wolf (the maker of these tutorial series) came to this world to drop the most unbelievable videos on how to fly in space and just disappeared. lol Seriously man, amazing videos.
Awesome tutorials and crazy amazing skill set!! Even more unbelievable doing it in an FDL!!! Maybe another camera showing how you use your HOTAS with micro adjusting 6dof and/or possibly use the overlay from furrycat videos, should you decide to do another tutorial. Thank you for this.
I want to give you a big thanks , I just finished last proficiency and i see a big progres in my skill . Can you propose some good fight lesson ? , becous my target that i focus is to kill hydra and i think that without faoff is very hard . The most I could do was kill the medusa in my cutter, but this is the wall when when it comes to fight in large ships. That's why I started learning faa off. I have a problem when it comes to aiming , im playing with mouse and keyboard
Moxenwolf, since your videos helped me so much, I'd like to see them added to CMDR Exigeous's ED Tutorial channel and website, which is new for 2020. I'd like to see you get more credit for the work you put into them, and they deserve to be more widely known. He suggested I contact you about this, I hope you'll consider contacting him. Thanks, CMDR and fly dangerous!
o7. This has been a great series of tutorials, but I am still struggling on my X52 with forward & reverse thrusting. Not sure whether to use Full Range on thrusters and have a dead zone, or use Forward only and toggle reverse set to D. In FA off I'm getting greater control switching Modes and having buttons A&B as forward&reverse. But this takes away my ability to target & firegroup select. I want to use my controllers thruster as intended. It's the only thing letting me down.
If it's any use, I've struggled with this as well somewhat and I have the following: In an ideal world we could have some kind of toggled spring-loaded system for our throttles to return to center for a given type of operation. Baring that, the best thing is maybe a mini stick of sorts. That being said, I have finally made Full Range stick with a regular throttle (Thrustmaster TWCS) and a bit of friction. All it took in the end was time. You need to give each possible configuration some time to adjust, I found. Additionally, I found a little bit of deadzone is a good thing so that you're able to zero it, but you don't want too much so as to impede an adjustment when needing to say jump to reverse real quick. In time, it works out, but yeah, sadly, it's not ideal.
This is what I would recommend for FAOFF and the X52. * Full Range Throttle * Set your "zero" on your throttle to match your physical detent on the throttle (the place where the throttle naturally stops around 25%). Do this by setting your X52 config to something like mine... Link: imgur.com/c1AQl2E
can you make a some montage videos of dog fights? or can you make a guide on how to beat incursion: competent in the training scenarios? that one is pretty though and I'm wondering how FA off players would handle it
Moxen Wolf hello, could you share your controller bindings? I’m absolutely new to the game and am trying to bind everything from scratch. Is there a specific adaptation that works better to learn and use with FA off?
I've tried to scan the comments this and the other videos in this series but I've been unable to find an answer to my question. Hope you are still following the comment section in these videos. What is your controller setup? I did see a post you made stating you are using an X52 Hotas but on what controls did you map your thrusters so you have such easy access to all 6 directions and am able to micro adjust so precise all the time? I know training and skill plays a lot and you master it 100% clearly.
Are we able to join gambit through PS4, I started practicing These FAoff techniques and would like to join the group. I’ve only been playing for about a month and would like to meet more awesome CMDRs
Exceptional series! I would love to see a progression to FOA intermediate and advanced and maybe even combat!

Thank you!! I've done some mentoring in the past (music) but nothing super official. Thank you for the complement!
This was such a good series. Thanks, if you're still about!
I would like to say a big "THANK YOU" for you, because with your FAOFF tutorial series I am now able to fly without that assist and I can totally control my ship as I want.

I have to say , this is so far the best „how to learn FAOFF“ for me. Would love to See further Videos of you can find the time!
Well done !
Brilliant videos series. I am now a convert…fantastic stuff
Another great video, something to practice with my space bus for smuggling wanted passengers.
Thank you Shinikittyz!!!
Excellent work Commander! Also, your HUD settings look great.

"...and celebrate by turning your oxygen back on." Yay, I don't have to die :D
Once again thanks for this outstanding series. o7
Sad to see you haven't posted any new videos in a couple years. Hope you come back for the intermediate tutorials.
Love entire course. Do you still play Elite? That was some quality content you've created. We need more!
Thanks Lugims. Unfortunately, I don’t play anymore. One of the reasons is not having a stick anymore (my old one broke). I’ll get one eventually. But even so, I kind of needed a break you know. Thanks for the comment and I’m happy you’re getting something out of it!

Wonderful stuff, thanks Hobbs. Glad to get through it all, and I'm looking forward to the next series!

I used to dream of games like this when I was a sci-fi-reading kid in the 1950s.

simply; WOW! Thank you for the amazing goal :)

I wonder: is there a way to have the ships default to FA Off?

Hi! This video series is amazing! You mentioned and teasered advanced series, are you still planning to do it?
I'm going to need more videos
Thank you very much this video too!

Really need to practice not easy to do a lot of these things with fa on never mind off lol

Excellent lessons. In one of the next can you also show your controllers please?
I need to do this. Thank you for the reminder.

I just need to master cargo scoops then I'll have graduated flight school. How do I join nutens gambit?
Tnx a lot for these awesome genius didactic videos. I would like to join your group ingame.
Thanks Pequi! Love seeing your posts in group now :D Sorry for the late reply here.

Make more some intermediate flight assist off videos
“This is just the beginning”
☹️
I wonder if the station operator is A Fox In Space...
Or a Fox among the Stars
ah, like KSP docking. Doesn't help that you don't have your trusty navball
Intermediate never arrived :(
You sound like wak4863 from Conan exiles
Is intermediate out yet? :)
Never made the intermediate advanced?
No combat : /
