- I had the great pleasure to interview Jon Rettinger to get his initial thoughts and review on the highly controversial Tesla CyberTruck. Jon has driven almost every EV ever made and currently owns the Rivian R1T. This knowledge of the EV space gives Jon credibility in the automotive industry. In this video we cover all things CyberTruck and ultimately get Jon's answer to: Rivian R1T or CyberTruck?

I’m on the side that loves it , and I love that some people don’t like it, either way it gets people talking about it, so much free advertising for Tesla. I would wrap it just like this one and drive it with a smirk on my face thinking about those that hate it, or think it’s “ ugly” ..😄😏😏

The CT will be great for truck things except for super long distance towing. Still many other truck things exist.
💯 it’s been able to take everything I throw at it. But long distance towing isn’t there yet. I’ll dive deeper into this in a later video
Was this wrapped by tint plus? I saw this (or a similar one) while getting work done there. I wonder how the wrap will hold up around sharp edges on the body panels
It was wrapped at Mike's Tint Shop in Orange, CA. I did a whole video on the tint and wrap process, if you want to check it out
Where did you get the wrap done, what color, how much, and how long did it take?
Mikes Tint Shop in Orange, CA did the wrap. The color is brushed black metallic. They wrapped and tinted my CyberTruck in 3 days
That wrap looks absolutely sick on the cybertruck. Cybertruck is so much different than any other vehicle on the road that’s why I really like it. I just wish it had little more range. I’d definitely get extender pack when it becomes available

You can climb on the tyre to reach the bed
Yes you can but also keep in mind that the tires are pretty large so its not the easy climb for some people. I'm 6'2" and its a reach for me

Good video but i think more will use it for work stuff. With a bed slider it couls be a mobile work shop.

@@Butter_EV pop out the sunshade and a sliding bed that goes out to the telgate with long slides and feet feet the you could work from 3 sides . With feet you could work on four side
Like paramedic gurney legs the fold up.whe you slide the work station in. One side feet other side gurney leg help to load back up easy.
Why doesn't the window regulator on an American car stop the window when there is resistance such as a finger or a hand? In European cars it has long been standard that the window stops and goes back

The CyberTruck is extremely polarizing. There’s no grey area with it, you either love it or hate it. I haven’t heard one person say “it’s okay”

It seems like CT is a bit less comfy and harder to live with in this 1st gen iteration, especially for those of us living in urban areas. Am considering waiting for the refreshed project Juniper Model Y instead for a bit more comfort and reliability (repair shops won't scratch their heads or see $$$) for my family and a bit less drama.
Didn’t they scrap the Juniper? I was excited about it as well but I thought I heard they cancelled it 😔

If you can get out of the Tesla Cyber Track in an emergency if you drive into the water if the windows are made of tempered glass, every Tesla Cyber Track owner needs a glass breaker to break the windows in an emergency
This is interesting and something that I haven’t thought about. Since the glass is “armored glass” in an emergency how would one go about breaking it?
Did he say your Cybertruck has rust spots already?
When I took the truck to get wrapped they noticed small rust spots when prepping the truck
@Butter_EV - That "rust" isn't from the stainless steel. It's called rail dust which is iron shreds that settles on cars. The iron oxidizes and rusts. The truck itself is not rusting. Only the iron dust on the surface. It's easily rubbed off using a cleaning product. So to overview, no, the truck doesn't rust. The iron dust that collects on the surface rusts which can be rubbed off.
I heard that the Tesla cyber track was already starting to rust with the first buyers
Mine was delivered with small rust spots

the shop that wrapped the truck for me removed them so I’m not sure the difficulty but they didn’t seem too worried about it so I’d assume it wasn’t too hard

Looked like rust to me and that’s what the shop told me they were
Yea I just like looking at it and how odd it looks never would I want one in any way but Its a moon rover roaming the earth and it’s funny to watch.
I appreciate the fact that even though you have no desire to own a CyberTruck you can appreciate what it is and how its different.
I totally disagree that the Rivian seats are more comfortable than the Tesla or any other manufacturer. Had a Rivian for about a year and the seats were horrible. The seat has bolstering on the seat cushion that you actually sit on, not comfortable! Also the accelerator and steering is too heavy.

Missed the question about the interior. Teslas interior is subpar especially compared to the Rivian.

Actually the Cybertruck has a really cool interior. It might be a little plasticy, but it has some premium touches as well. Plush, perforated seats and soft headliner, plus a massive screen.
The cybertruck makes everyone realize just how good the Rivians are.
Rivian are beautiful well made vehicles. Can't blame anyone for preferring one over the CyberTruck
They're just different. Not one is really better, it's what you prefer.
If and when Rivian has decent access to the supercharger network it could be a good improvement.
I dont understand why people dont want to say anything negative. Negative useful criticism is o.k.
Same here, Love my Lightning, cancelled the Cybertruck reservation. It doesn't really offer much more.

The hype is that it’s a pretty big departure from typical. They took a lot of design risks with it. Which is polarizing, because most people are risk averse. But obviously there are plenty of risk takers out there.

I think all cars now are pretty advanced and smart. But Teslas are pretty cool
Very ugly truck! I’d don’t think I can ever get used to it. Very ugly. I look at it because it’s go funny looking like a Roblox. The Revian looks nice.
Two very different looking trucks but very fun trucks
Revian has style. The Roblox car has no style. The rear looks like a thermador refrigerator on wheels
So glad Tesla made the CT and I want one, but after owning a new Model 3 and new Model S, I will do everything possible to never own another Tesla. Once you really get to know the cars and the company, and the honeymoon period is over, you realize how horrible they are.
There are definitely pros and cons to Tesla vehicles
@@Butter_EV True. Unfortunately, the cons outweigh the pros in the long term compared to a good ICE from a good manufacturer.
