  • The OnePlus 12 gets uncomfortably close in many cases to the S24 Ultra... It really makes you question the amount of cash you gotta shell out.

      The op12 is significantly better at night time Vs s24u. In fact it's better in general... The colours on the s24u are horrible .. it's like the phone captures the image and goes nah I reckon these colours will look better, but they don't... The op12 is way more accurate

    The sensor from the periscope on the oneplus actually it's promoted in the official Omnivision website as a "2x crop in sensor" and it says " It integrates a 4‑cell color filter array and on-chip hardware re‑mosaic, which provides high quality, 64MP Bayer output in real time"
    It seems like the sensor itself it's designed in a way that it can "pre" debayering itself when going for the full resolution. Basically natively the sensor it's making the hard work and one plus it's only applying algorithms for color and contrast.
    Other brands use supersampling and multistacking (google) to produce more details. A few other brands (Apple, Samsung) seem to go ahead with multistacking and AI enhancements to create more details.
    Apparently oneplus is doing just a lazy debayering process. That's why their high resolution photos (or 2x crops) only show the "real" detail with no more post processing at all. Like in 2020.

    • @bala1741
      @bala1741 5 місяців тому +1

      And for some reason I like the real details that is not over processed. I changed from s22 to OP 12 just for the over processing by Samsung. I can edit the details after clicking the photo but once it's processed by Samsung then editing the jepg is a big no. OP12 is better for my use case.

    • @jorgeescudero5034
      @jorgeescudero5034 5 місяців тому +3

      @@bala1741 mmmm, no. Multistacking really helps to fill the gap in spaces were no detail was involved before. When the photo is already taken you CAN NOT edit the detail that was not there in first place (unless you utilize some AI enhancing app/program).
      Overprocessing (saturation, sharpening, contrast) It's not really the result of just "post processing". If samsung has decided to go overboard it's a different thing. But high resolution photos from Apple and Google are way better than the ones from Oneplus.

  • @grantyale
    @grantyale 5 місяців тому +4

    OnePlus 12 uses LYT-808 with 2x2 OCL pixel array. The quad Bayer subpixels sense phase difference, not spatial resolution. Therefore the 2x sensor crop has no extra detail.

    • @grantyale
      @grantyale 5 місяців тому +2

      The tele-camera uses OV64B, which has "normal" quad Bayer array without the 2x2 OCL micro lenses. Therefore the sensor crop / high-res mode can extract more details.

    I mean in good lightning good conditions the One Plus regular pics from the back camera looks actually better. People should speak up more about this. One plus has a true 10 bit screen while Ultra still going with a 8 bit screen, meaning One plus has more colors to use. The screen is brighter and little more pixel density than the Ultra maybe this is why the regular pics looks better on the one Plus in good conditions. You can even set the camera to that pics in 10 bit color on the one plus. Even in night the one plus looks better manu of the times damm

    I am fan of Utra series, besides the price double of Oneplus 12, Samsung reliability is questioned as i had bad experience with note series and battery drains very much and charging takes a hour+. So finally brought OP12 from exclusive outlet and I'm enjoying it, I'm very impressed by the quality of images it captured. Zooming is magnificent but 90-120x zoom is not worth. Only cons is battery is not that great as any other OP.

  • @TheMrreese24

    The difference is as you stated with the oneplus you don't have enough control to fix their problems but with the samsung you do, and in auto shot for shot the ultra will mostly be better on average with better data to use. You're right if these results were the best you could get with the samsung then yes there would be several problems, but you have several lenses and software to fix the shot quickly with a little interaction before and after the shot. I never had a oneplus but this is going to be the difference throughout the entire experience of these phones, the ultra is for ultra users mainly, consumers who know how to get the results with no sweat. The s24 ultra is a treat, exceeded my expectation and is not easy but samsung continues to meet that goal for the ultra user. No phone is perfect but with the control you get on the ultra side, it's unmatched.

    In low light you can adjust the exposure by tapping the screen and then swiping your finger up for more exposure and down for less. Been like that for 10-years...

    • @thetechphenomena
      @thetechphenomena  5 місяців тому +1

      That wouldn't make it a fair comparison if I need to add manual inputs before I take a shot... besides, the exposure isn't always consistent n often the end result has a different exposure as opposed to the viewfinder

    • @L1ven
      @L1ven 5 місяців тому

      @@thetechphenomena well automatic point and shoot gives mixed results with every device as you can see. Why not use the cameras at their finest? I must say, the way S24 Ultra overprocesses, oversaturates and oversharpens everything is a deal breaker for me. A few small wins of Samsung in daylight are not enough to compensate the absolute processing mess S24U did, especially in the 15:26 shot. Magenta on top is the least of it's problems, the thing that was distracting me the most was the look of the greenery in the center, the pavement and windows of the building in the background. The whole image looks as if you took the "sharpening" slider in LR and just moved it to 100.
    Atrocious.

      Of course the Xiaomi 14 ultra will be better for cameras but it will be around 50% more expensive too and cameras and ip rating will be the only areas really where it's superior but you'll need to pay an extra €500 or so

      The 650 euro version does NOT include Oxygen OS. The latter will cost an extra 30 euro.
      Also that's just a 256GB version while the S24U gets a free storage upgrade in most cases. So to compare it would add another 100 euro.
      In the end your looking at 780 euro's and you could be paying import taxes.
      Seen the 512GB S24U for 900 euro's with the pre order discounts.
