The stone part would have worked for longer if you'd not used round stone (doesn't pack) but 2A modified limestone. 2A packs and is more stable. The limestone also helps neutralize some of the urine acid. Our ground is very wet and topsoil deep where the paddocks (off our run-in stalls) are with shared trough between them. The 2A modified lasted only 15 yrs for the horse that had more circling room, but only 10 yrs for the one that had to run back and forth because of less width (topo constraint). So we're going to re-do it, adding not only these Mud Control Grids on top of the 2A modified-fabric sandwich for a longer-lasting stabilizer. Plan for 2 layers fabric. one under the stone, one on top under the mud control grids. THis time we'll also add one of those Home Depot pre-fab french drains under the 2Amod gravel leading from the water trough to the edge of the paddock, and cap the end so no rodents get stuck in it. This pre-fab drain product is a perf'd pipe covered with a sock of (puffy-perlite -filled) fabric. Hoping to find some modern free carpet scraps instead of buying geotek for the top of the sandwich, under the Mud Grids. Here's hoping it will be more permanent! The ground heaves every winter and "flows" out over the years.
