Matija Pecotic : Makes First ATP Tour Main Draw at Age 33 (2023)
Matija Pecotic is a former All-American at Princeton who was three times named the Ivy League Player of the Year. He would later use time during an injury layoff to attend Harvard business school. After graduating, he committed to playing the tour full-time but just months later the pandemic hit and shut the Tour down. So the 10-time winner on the ITF circuit decided to call it a career and went to work full time at Wexford Real Estate in West Palm Beach, still hitting before work and running after to stay in shape for an opportunity. After initially not getting into the DBO qualifying, he happened to be on-site picking up rackets from the stringer when he got in as an alternate. Two match-wins later he qualified for his ATP Tour debut against 2017 champion, wild card Jack Sock. They play Tuesday at 6 p.m.
