@carrikerchronicles90 just get back to sound tackling. I don't know what last weeks yac yards were. But northern iowa was 80 something. I pose a question to you. Do you think the issues we are seeing can be corrected in a week?
Thank you for pointing out Tom Osborne record. I grew up listening to how bad he was then spent highschool hearing the same pepole say he is unstoppable.
There was no social media in 1970. After Assistant head coach Osbourne took over in 1972 there were years of people wanting him replaced. They called him a riverboat gambler. There were many after the 2 pt conversion attempt against miami that wanted him fired. He became the grearest coach in college football history to me. GBR!!.
@@brianh4669 It was never as bad as its been the last 9 seasons! LOL! Are we really trying to get back to the Osborne Glory Years? The Pelini 9+ wins a year seems a more achievable goal. We don't have near the physicality advantage we once did.
Adam, it is difficult to comment when I find your words to be my words, your thoughts, my thoughts. You have a great show and I have come to rely heavily on it.
To respond to your question about backups, I think we should be able to get some backups in and let some starters heal up for Rutgers and Indiana. That said, I remember when we could put 2s and 3s in the game in the second half and still dominate with intensity and aggressive play calling. But I think the playing not to lose approach in the 2nd halves of the first 3 games came back to haunt us last Friday. We weren’t prepared to play 4 full quarters.
I think we should practice coffin corner punts A LOT in practice - so THE WHOLE TEAM knows EXACTLY what to do. For those who don't know: A coffin corner punts is aimed near the sideline just before the end zone and is ideal for forcing the opponent to start close to their own goal line.
Thanks for the insights...Adam.....as usual I think you are pretty much on the nose here. It is funny because I made the same "wake-up" call analogy with the volleyball team elsewhere.
Great interview!! I don't care which players start or are played as long as it gives us the advantage and we play 4 full qtrs. I think NU could beat Purdue....we'll see. Side bar: I always enjoy it when you have Dr Strasburger (a former Husker!) on your show--always insightful information from him!
I am usually despondent after a Nebraska loss, especially when they were predicted to win. However, after the Illinois loss, I have a sense of hopefulness that is surprising to me. I think the Illinois game will turn out to be pivotal - and not in a negative way - and this loss will be a wake up call to the entire team, and to Dylan Raiola. He played great, but there had to be some missteps in his early tenure, and better that they came now than in a more important game down the road. I truly do not believe that this is the beginning of another string of close losses; when we get to the end of the season, we will at the very least have a winning record and be going to a bowl game. I have every confidence that Matt Rhule, Dylan Raiola, the special teams, the defense, and those that committed needless penalties will learn from this and will be better for it. Go Big Red!
And IF we're not in a position to execute a coffin corner punts due to our OWN field position, then we need to get our PUNT COVERAGE to a PREMIERE level. In this case, they need to chase down punts and make the tackle QUICKLY or, better yet, force a fair catch. Limiting the return is ESSENTIAL to keeping the field position gained by the punt itself.
In 2011, I remember several CFB analysts predicting that Nebraska's move to the Big 10 would prevent them from recruiting the top talent they relied upon from the State of Texas. In the Big 12 The Huskers could promise those recruits that their friends and families could see them play in person when they played road games in Texas and Oklahoma, something that's not possible in Big 10 cities.
What we do on the ground depends on the offensive line health which is not good right now. Technically we should be able to be more physical and just run the ball on Purdue. It should be a comfortable win I'm more curious to see the special teams They should have an open tryout for kickers I know there's lots of soccer and football players that are enrolled at UNL.
It just seems that there are no halftime adjustments being made, I really worry about our offense with the injuries on the offensive line piling up. That overtime really opened my eyes and I'm sure Purdue liked what they saw. I still think we end up at 7-5 with a loss to Indiana and Iowa to end the season. I said it before the season and I'll say it again, a bowl game is all I care about this season. I'm sure a lot of fans expect and want more, but as long as we continue to increase the total in the win column year by year I won't hit the panic button. I would much rather have the problems on defense than offense as I think Tony White can get them to improve over the season.
I'm happy with the strength and conditioning as well as younger kids getting reps. This program is only in year 2 of the rebuild and it will pay dividends in years to follow. The more reps they can get these kids the better. I do think we fall short if we don't reach a bowl game this year.
Adam you made a point about Rhule not staying anywhere long...my question is simple, do you think Rhule will bail once the team starts getting decent to good? His longevity is a concern for me. 🔴⚪️🌽☠️
Volleyball team got beat by a team they were supposed to beat. They shook the loss off & next game beat highly ranked Stanford. Now it's time for football team to shake loss off & win. GBR!
Would you rather see us get pressure with 3 to 4 guys or see us disguising blitzes more and bringing more pressure 30%-60% more a game defensively? You’re GOAT D Line for Nebraska
Regarding the ball that they called an interception, did he have control when he crossed the end zone, if so, does anything matter after the ball is across the end zone?
Of course Nebraska will bounce back. I’m sure the players and staff are kicking themselves over how horribly they screwed up and they”ll eliminate the ridiculous unnecessary roughness penalties that cost them the game.
If we don't have a kicker, then it's going to be a long year of close losses. The Illinois game was a fist fight and Nebraska took too many punches and didn't want to fight at the end. I thought chasing 3 and 1 better was serious to them.
I am at somewhat of a loss. It appeared before the season started that EVERYONE agreed that going to a bowl would be the mark of progress for this team, what changed? Yes we look so much better than last year, and the QB1 is amazing for a true freshman, but we need a kicker (or two), and progress on penalties and tackling. This is a MUCH better team than last year, and we should all remember the excitement of going to a bowl game. We have to relax and remember this is year TWO in a rebuilding process, please give the players and coaches a break...GBR!
It’s because the ceiling is much higher than last year while the floor is really only slightly better. If they can figure things out we are a very dangerous team.
Adam, still no one has expalined the rule pertaining to a caught ball in the end-zone but wrestled away from WR. What I saw and my knowledge of college football appeared to be a blown call by the refs. Again, what is the specific rule?????
My opinion is. Nebraska needs to keep the throttle press down. Until you learn how to win. Then you can put it into cruise control. But not until you learn that killer instinct to win.
Adam: This is probably off subject, but I just have to make a point. I just heard that Saturday's game will AGAIN be on Peacock channel only. This really ticks me off. Not all of us want to prescribe to a special channel to watch our Huskers. I don't care if they want to stream the game on their special channels if they want to. Just make surer that it is on one of the regular channels so us older fans can watch it as always. Can't help but think that I'm the only one that is thinking that way. Forgive me for venting my frustrations!
We all hate it. It is frustrating but Nebraska gets zero say on what Channel their games will be on. This is all about the Big Ten and their Mega multi-million dollar deal with all the TV companies. Previously the Big Ten was exclusive with fox, but now they've opened up. This includes NBC who also owns peacock. The stand to make a lot of money if even only 50,000 people sign up just to watch this one game
NBC and Peacock has THE WORST coverage of college football games. I’m sure the Notre Dame fan would disagree. The game commentators are awful and the field microphones are so badly placed that you can hardly hear the marching bands play. This matters to me. Just my opinion.
I think we need to quit playing too soft defense the three man attack on defense isn’t enough need to blitz a lil more play some man to Man U know mix it up. We def have to block better on the online get that run game going. 38-10 Nebraska wins!
Off course they will bounce back. The have been gifted a VERY SOFT schedule. They will now play several REALLY bad teams and husker fans will be beck to pounding their chest about how great they are, until they play a real team again. At least give purdue credit for going out and playing a Notre Dame. While the huskers spend millions to buy wins from junior high school teams. Next year while teams are going out of conference and playing Notre Dame & Alabama the huskers will be scheduling in Sister Mary's School for the blind because it's the only way they can get wins.
The reason people are upset is because of the media and homer podcasts like this. During the offseason (Nebraskas time to shine) the defense was touted as top 5….. If you’re watching this show for great analysis and unbiased reporting you’re on the wrong channel….. Nebraska is playing like a team that doesn't know how to win. It's okay. This is expected. It's a process. They don't know how to win. This has been a losing program and a vert mediocre program for a long time. Rhule is laying a foundation that will last years. Be patient. It will happen.
What’s the biggest thing the Huskers need to do, to bounce back?! Starting by playing 4 full quarters is my first thought. CarrikerChronicles.com
