Experimental Oliver! The One & Only RED Oliver XO-121!

- Опубліковано 13 жов 2024
- Oliver fan John Schoenauer of Nebraska gives us the scoop on the one and only Oliver XO-121. This experimental tractor -- that was never sold - was built by Oliver in 1953 to test an engine with a high compression ratio of 12 to 1. This would allow more power from the same size engine with the use of a high octane fuel. The XO-121 was in the Floyd County Museum in Iowa for many decades, but has recently been brought back to running condition and has drawn legions of Oliver fans at summer shows.

That was so cool!
We had two Oliver's on the farm, a 77 gas and a Super 88 with the Waukesha diesel. Dad put a turbo on the 88 and boy did that thing come to life! He also installed a set of 18.4 - 38's on the rear and topped them off with fluid. We reminisced about how that thing would hook up pulling the disc. That was one of the last conversations we had while he was in hospice. He died in 2020. Thanks a lot for the video, it went straight to the heart.

Even though I'm a Persian Orange man myself, I spent many hours running my father in laws Oliver equipment. I have to say that while I've never seen a bad looking Oliver tractor, this one in red with the stainless grille is extra sharp!
We could only imagine what it would have been like to really have one of those magnificent Oliver tractors. Mr. John Schoenauer sure has a gem there. Thanks for sharing that wonder with us! Have a great weekend.
Wow! Great to see this old test unit running! Usually, they destroyed all the prototype tractors. Great vid!
My dad was there when it was tested in 53 and it was also about fuel economy when they did this tractor. My grandpa was an oliver dealer in PA and they offered dealers that sold so much was offered that trip.
Wow, just when u think u have seen every model Oliver made, then u see another rare one
It's even nicer in person. They also did paint a few other Oliver's red. They were the heritage series. Red with white and blue decals.
They had a few pink ones too
I remember this tractor being at Living History Farms back in the 1980’s. My then to be wife ran the Root Cellar Cafe, I helped on the weekends. Her dad volunteered and drove the carts that transported people to the different sites.
One quick correction. The Oliver XO-121s were run on Ethanol (today's equivalent of e85). Not gasoline. it'll run on high octane gasoline with some carburetor adjustments, but the originals were tuned for exactly what is e85 today.
(I helped tune the other running Oliver XO-121)
Pretty tractor!
Listen to that bark!
Thanks for sharing
I seen it at Rollag when it was there 2 years ago. It is quite a neat piece of history.
The reunion is only a couple weeks out! Looking forward to it!
There is a SECOND XO-121 being restored in SW Missouri : )
I saw it at the museum in Charles City in 2020.
Do you guys come out to Canada?
What is the bent red handle down low on the dash this the pull starter rod i have only seen them on diesels never a gas ???????????
Not certain about it....but might possibly be a compression release used to make starting the engine easier. This tractor was probably still running a 6 volt starting system.
Nice 👍🏻🇺🇸
Wow
Good day from Ontario. Interesting The engine lookalmost like a flat head? Anybody know? Thanks
It's a Hercules overhead valve. I don't remember the exact model, but it was originally a diesel engine so that the bottom end could handle the higher compression ratio.
@@ThatOliverGuyChris Good day mr. Chris. I guess if anybody knows it would be u. Thanks
Best ever built oliver
Awesome
My buddy made a replica of it
