Wow! What have I been doing? I've been a F1 fan for 40+ years and I've never seen anything like this. I feel like I've just watched the greatest race of my life, fantastic stuff.
Now this is proper racing, no fuel management, no tyre management, no brake management. Full on racing from the start, what a spectacle. Thanks for the recording, a real joy to watch and listen to.
Absolutely - and not only no brake management, but hardly any brakes at all. Several of these cars, including the Sunbeam, no. 25, have no front-wheel brakes. I know it takes phenomenal fitness to drive F1, but it took phenomenal bravery to drive these machines at speed back in the day when roads were rarely hard-surfaced, if at all.
It sure is! ‘No fuel management? Pump like hell with one hand! 😅 ‘No tyre management? Just let them wear out! 😁 ‘No brake management?’ They’ll last forever ’cause the drivers don’t use them! 🤣
I love it, this is some incredible auto racing. I've driven circle track cars before but I would have gather up enough nerve to drive these AWESOME vintage race cars. these guys don't have any fear at all they get the most out of these old race cars which makes the competition very exciting. I would definitely watch more of this kind of racing for sure. these guys make NASCAR look like a bunch of slobs.
this need more advertise, i didnt know that goodwood had memorial races i thought it was only shootouts, im so glad i found this, races from all eras pure gold
What a wonderful race!! Duncan did an incredible job. SO did everyone but Julian with that monster really threw it around masterfully. I am definitely building one of these and joining next year or the year after..lol
Great to see these old out and about, instead of stuck in a STUPID museum and NEVER get out! Any vehicle needs to be exercised they do benefit from lack of movement!!!!
+Bill Dexhart The winner was a modern special based on a 1920s GN cyclecar fitted with a Curtiss aero engine; the second car was the 1923 V12 Delage - the only one built and a former World Land Speed Record holder (143mph); third was the only surviving Indianapolis Sunbeam from 1916; and fourth was the recreation of the 1905 Land Speed Record (109mph) Darracq built around the original engine.
I enjoyed the race a great deal. However i wish that they had posted a list of the competitors, the car identities and how they finished in the description.
"I remember reading a long time ago it is because of the extreme crown of the roads back then. The center of the road was much higher than the edges to help drainage. Positive camber helped keep the entire tire patch on the road. Imagine if you will driving along the length of a cylinder." other commentors point out its about the non indipenant front suspension and bump steer etc
Fantastic looking at this homemade patched up junk getting trashed. Asking big money for any if it is ridiculous. At the end they can go and collect all the bits that have shaken off. Keep at it boys! : )
I feel like they need to separate the field up a little more, those cars that were racing close to together but the leaders were lapping need to be in a race of their own. I've watched some later races and I almost irks me how the GN Curtiss is always at the front. Not that I bear any ill will to the driver, just how unfair the race is to the other competitors who can't, to be frank, compete.
I don't agree. If you separate the entry too much you'll only have half-a-dozen cars on track and that would reduce the spectacle. The are very few opportunities to race any car more than 100 years old on a regular basis in Britain. When you get the chance - especially at Goodwood - you grab it with both hands. The guys at the back don't care if they're 10, 15, 60 seconds-a-lap slower than the front-runners. All they want is the opportunity to get out there and give it the beans!
This was more exciting than all F1 races of the last decade combined!

This was a fantasic race, don't know about anybody else, but I found myself pulling for that little GN.......
Yeah, me too.
Me too!
5 Years late
Mee too
¡Me too!
I wasn't expecting this to be so cool before clicking on it!
F1 seems so ordinary next to these hundred year heroes:D

Who else does this around the world ? Biggest koodo's to you guys , astonished and jaw dropped at the coverage and event
Incredible! Fantastic! No safety equipment, and YOU are the roll bar! Hats off to these gentlemen.
It always makes me happy to see priceless museum thoroughbreds being flogged around the track like they’re rented mules.
love that little thunderbug clapping away determined to win in the back
I second that, awesome on the edge of your seat stuff, what a finish and a big thumbs up to the commentators who add so much to the whole day out.
The whole meeting was brilliant and the coverage was excellent. This was one of the best races of all. Keep on keeping on.

10:50
"There're cars everywhere" LOL
6:45 ... this has been the coolest race ever!
I like how many of the cars have lights and plates. Especially the ones with very short numbers. Street legal since 190? and still banging !
Thanks for the upload. Great classic cars and nice racing. The style of reporting reminds me to Radio Le Mans :)
Great to see these old out and about, instead of stuck in a STUPID museum and NEVER get out! Any vehicle needs to be exercised they do benefit from lack of movement!!!!
This is what life is all about, a bunch of men racing their tractors. Good times.
Tractors ? 200mph :'O
What a superb race!
One thing, the winner's GN chassis is powered by a V8 Hispano Suiza made under licence by Curtiss....
This must have been awesome to watch in person
top race ! good pictures ! all these old race cycle cars, very exciting ! (Ludovic, from France)
Thank you for posting this. I really enjoyed it :)
Fantastic... Fantastic... Sweet 17 minutes...
awesome awsome awsome thank you for this video
This is superb! Does anyone know the three top contender's cars? I'd like to know more about them. A list of the starting grid would be great!

@@michaelcostigan4864 :what a lineage of old, old cars...and they are driving them as if they left the factory yesterday.
woowwww que carrera! lo unico que preocupa es la seguridad de los pilotos pero al mismo tiempo es lo que le da la emoción
Exactamente
this is gotten me so excited for the hillclimb coverage ...... also i hope you guys r gonna release the full day 1 and 2 stream coverage???
I love the Sunbeam.... but side on views of the Delage make me catch my breath.
I enjoyed the race a great deal. However i wish that they had posted a list of the competitors, the car identities and how they finished in the description.
spectacular!
Each second, every detail is so interesting its racing for its own sake?
Wonderful
Just beautiful....
What speeds are thay hitting? Cool old technology, love it.
Probably close to 100mph
Check out the Goodwood R&R interview with Duncan recently to hear the story of his car's colours.

The Delage looked like it had determined to kill the driver.
Wonderful cars, just a shame we see very little of anything but the 3 leaders.
damn i wish all of these rigs were mic'd
This is the first type of gran prix car.
XLNT
Are their any of these cars on the market to buy?
You have to build one! Most of them are Specials.
+Adrian Tyler hmm I don't have any experience in this.
Check many Barns and Garages of Old People and you may find something.
why do these cars run negative front camber?
Pretty sure that is positive camber and I was wondering the same thing.
+racerx143 when the car corners at high speed the force pulls the inside wheel to almost 0 camber and provides traction from what i think.
but the inside wheel is not under hardly any load and by that logic the outside wheel would have even worse camber issues
+felix pinto ya i caught that after i replied hah it has to do with the cross ply tires that were used until the 1940s, thank you google Lol

those are the real old cars or are they remakes? what if someone crashes, and destroy those peices of art?
Crazy Model Garage The real deal cars (mostly). Crashes are fixed.
eso mismo pregunto yo
Can imagine the smell?!
Did he said "drove his spaghetti?" Go to three minutes and four seconds.
What he said was "drove his Bugatti..." Seen at 0:54
the subtitles say spaghetti too i love it 😂
Well the commentary wasn't very good and the cameras were often out of focus or missing major place changes???
Still an amazing race and great to watch but come on...
