I am so glad you mentioned Double Trouble, because Tommy Shannon, Chris Layton and Reese Wynans often get overshadowed by Stevie's greatness. They add so much to the music, while Stevie is doing his thing.
Reese is playing with Joe Bonamassa; he's even better with age and experience! Chris Layton is in the Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band; definitely worth the price of admission. Tommy Shannon has mostly retired due to health reasons.
I LOVE THIS MAN! ❤ This entire 1989 Austin City Limits show is outstanding. I think you'd absolutely love other performances from this concert like Riviera Paradise, Mary Had a Little Lamb, Couldn't Stand the Weather, Cold Shot, and Tightrope. It's a joy to share your joy of music! Greetings from Maryland 🇺🇸🌎
The album "In Step" was recorded after Stevie beat his drug addiction. His renewed passion is evident in the music. I was blessed to see him just weeks before his death, in a local Symphony Hall. One of the best concerts of my life. RIP SRV🎸 ☮💛🎶
Had the pleasure and honor to see SRV live many times . . . I always thought that Stevie was simply replaying what he and the Good Lord had already written! I still grieve his passing (August 1990, helicopter crash. He rests in Dallas, TX)
Saw him in concert twice in St. Louis , once with Jeff Beck and once with Joe Cocker. Only one!! I’ll never see another like him in my lifetime. What an artist!
He didn't have a lot BUT by the '80s, AM Radio was popularly disregarded... disrespected... "Oh, it's a sell-out as the Big Radio Corporations are buying up little stations, dictating that all of their 'satellites spew only their hits, their propoganda. So listeners were eevaporating, and more advertising left 'local business marketing' and only mentioned national brands, national chains. gag! So, Stevie's lack of Top 40 AM Radio hits was JUST FINE. "We don't listen to that junk anyway - we buy the albums!" And hand for at least a decade or two. These radio hits did have one consequence: his shows had to move from 500-1000 person clubs (dance floors) into 2000 and 5000 halls, and then arenas. Those were fun because crowds understood - "He's not just MINE. Now I have 20,000 compatriot fans, screaming and dancing just as much I as I am."
Stevie Ray and his Stratocaster become one. He could just close his eyes and play on and on. And even if he were to play a miss lick, he would just bend, then shake it, hold onto it and make it work seamlessly. Serious once in a generation type of mega talent right here. R.I.P. SRV
I always thought SRV was a medium that channeled music seamlessly, without thought, without hesitation, NEVER missing a chord. It just flowed out of him like water from a faucet.
Ok, SRV time.... you better hold on tight. This isn't just an ordinary guitar player.... in fact, anything but that. Enjoy the ride, and no one and done stuff. Stevie deserves at least 2 or 3 songs before you really jump in for a bite. Thank you, and enjoy one of the greatest ever 😎🎸
I remember watching this very broadcast on PBS here in Calgary back in 1989! TV then wasn't quite the wasteland it is now. A great blues day is a very good day, and Stevie Ray was always a treat. I have this very DVD in my collection somewhere, and his "Live at the El Macambo" in Toronto DVD, as well! Stevie was coming on everywhere like a locomotive at that time! 🎸👀💖
Check out some of his brothers work. Jimmy Vaughn. He played lead for "The Fabulous Thunderbird's". But also collaborations with other artists. Different blues/rock style than Stevie, but still a great guitarist as well.
SRV is Texas blues! His brother Jimmie was lead guitarist for The Fabulous Thunderbirds, and the two of them did an album together called Family Style.
My absolute favorite SRV song! The tone he gets out of his guitar is amazing. It may have something to do with the outrageously thick gauge of his strings. They're almost like cables. His hands are incredibly strong, to manipulate these strings the way he does.
It's so true that time goes faster as we get older. I'm 68 and it feels like I was 45 just a couple of years ago. You would love Sandy Denny singing "Who Knows Where The Time Goes"
In Step his final studio album with Double Trouble, is " In Step"...a nod to the 12 step programs. SRV, overcame addiction, and this album is his hope for overcoming addiction. He was clean Sober and enjoying life. " Tightrope" song off of album is one of his best songs ..in my opinion.
Thanks for sharing!! I prefer to not live in a big city, but anywhere in the US is still heavy on making more and more. Most places outside the high urban areas have places where you can live like you describe.
Totally agree. The older I get the more I know in my heart this debt slave world is not what God planned for his children. You’re on the right path and I wish you both nothing but happiness and many blessings.
You two love guitars stuff, so check out Jeff Beck doing "Cause We've Ended as Lovers" from his Live at Ronnie Scott's concert. Top notch. Beck could really make a guitar sing.
Have you heard any Arc Angels music? They were a Supergroup that formed shortly after Stevie Ray’s death and was composed of Stevie Ray Vaughan’s friends Doyle Bramhall II and Charlie Sexton and two of the band members from Vaughan’s band Double Trouble, drummer Chris Layton and bassist Tommy Shannon. They have some awesome songs. My favorite two are “Living In A Dream” and “Sent By Angels”. I’ll put the link below. Thanks. “Living In A Dream” ua-cam.com/video/qtLw_53C95M/v-deo.htmlsi=11CdonaGXBKl8kXL “Sent By Angels” ua-cam.com/video/eCjcLI2Jv18/v-deo.htmlsi=BeOsLiyLrruSwJJE
In my mind, Stevie Ray didn't do a lot of 'songs' - his were often 'works' or even transcendental because he took audiences along for journeys. Not that songs are bad. CROSSFIRE is definitely a song, giving the audiences the great chance to stand up and move, not sit back and groove. And COLD SHOT is, too. Another one to recommend is his version of Doyle Bramhall's CHANGE IT. Here's a link...ua-cam.com/video/nY4OOq2qlQI/v-deo.html SRV, Bramhall (Sr and eventually Jr, too) were frequently stage-partners and off-stage pals around Austin and Texas, Stevie Ray making sure that Doyle's excellent songwriting was featured and other artists knew.
Sometimes the BIGGEST GRINS are so infectious when I'm watching these reactions. THANK YOU for that rocketship of great emotions and grins. (I keep hoping you'll find a phrase or saying in your native language(s) to teach us, too. Maybe songs have a specific meaning that English can't translate?
Subscribed for more SRV and just like him you two are so natural and genuinely nice people. And you get the greatness and rarity of Stevie! Here's a couple of SRV suggestions that aren't reacted to very often. Drivin' South performed Live by Stevie Ray Vaughan. (Unfortunately just audio but incredible) ua-cam.com/video/QljYyX7fjdc/v-deo.html. and "Woke up this morning-Live at Blues Peer (B) 16 July 1988. ua-cam.com/video/LOxq2Yz-pVY/v-deo.html
For some more fun, please check out Stevie playing with his good friend Jeff Healey ( who is blind) "Look At Little Sister"...ua-cam.com/video/2HmLFyvFxTc/v-deo.html
Stevie Rays story is one of those things about life that piss me off. Here you have a man with all the talent just in his DNA, his very soul. For years whether he wanted to or not, he was trying to k*ll himself. At least thats what I call stirring cocaine into your coffee in the morning. He finally gets straight and realizes how much he wanted to live and more importantly, he was happy. And what did he get? A helicopter crash on the side of a mountain. Damn life sometimes!
I am so glad you mentioned Double Trouble, because Tommy Shannon, Chris Layton and Reese Wynans often get overshadowed by Stevie's greatness. They add so much to the music, while Stevie is doing his thing.
Tommy played bass for Johhny Winter too. Two legends of the blues he worked with. Werent they known as triple threatwith the keyboard player added?
Reese is in Joe Bonamassa's band, and he shines!
Great 2 c Reese continuing his career with Joe Bonamassa. Sure would loved to have seen it continue with SRV. RIP.
Reese is playing with Joe Bonamassa; he's even better with age and experience! Chris Layton is in the Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band; definitely worth the price of admission. Tommy Shannon has mostly retired due to health reasons.
Life without you live from the Capitol theater. ❤
I was 20 years old when he died. I was 15 when I started playing guitar and this man was my idol.
I LOVE THIS MAN! ❤

Thank you 😊 Much love from Romania 💚

Amazing 😍
The GOAT….PERIOD! 😎🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

He was an absolute wizard! Legend! PS, so was his guitar tech Rene Martinez.
Two song's from this concert, Coldshot and Riviera Paradise are two must watch songs.
Thank you 👍
Greetings from Florida 🙋♀️
SRV & Johnny Copeland performing Tin Pan Alley
🎸🎸
Texas Blues Man 🤘🤘
SRV was a master of phrasing. Symmetric or asymmetrical his lines were always balanced and complete.
Love love love SRV❤❤❤
Saw him in concert twice in St. Louis , once with Jeff Beck and once with Joe Cocker. Only one!! I’ll never see another like him in my lifetime. What an artist!
This was a #1 hit on rock radio. Stevie was a beast on stage & a kind & humble soul off stage. After getting clean & sober he was even better.
He didn't have a lot BUT by the '80s, AM Radio was popularly disregarded... disrespected... "Oh, it's a sell-out as the Big Radio Corporations are buying up little stations, dictating that all of their 'satellites spew only their hits, their propoganda. Kind, humble, and TRANSPARENT. I wish there were more reaction videos posted about interviews of Stevie---especially his post-addiction ones.
Love SRV. Love you guys. Keep on keeping on.
Even for Stevie, his guitar & voice that night were in excellent form!
Stevie Ray and his Stratocaster become one. He could just close his eyes and play on and on. And even if he were to play a miss lick, he would just bend, then shake it, hold onto it and make it work seamlessly. Serious once in a generation type of mega talent right here. R.I.P. SRV

SRV ~ 🎸🐐 The goatiest goat in all of goatness
**Tightrope at Austin City Limits**
Yes Stevie is un beat able😊 unbeatable 🎉 it describes SRV to the T…
PRIDE & JOY for you two, off the first album, his first hit.
I always enjoy your reactions.

Excellent! ❤❤
Life By The Drop!....amazing....played that at my dad's funeral
Glad you're following your passions, and it shows. ;)
Thank you 😊
Two words..."Voodoo Chile"
Gosh, I miss him so very much. Rest in peace SRV
Ok, SRV time.... you better hold on tight. This isn't just an ordinary guitar player.... in fact, anything but that.

Stevie is so badass. I saw him in Tampa bay Florida long ago. You should check out him concert in japan.
Check out some of his brothers work.
Jimmy Vaughn.

Different blues/rock style than Stevie, but still a great guitarist as well.
Thank you 👍😊
@richardfarina8165
I just checked some of it out. Pretty special, thanks for the info.
I've said it before, I'll say it again. There's a LOT of guitar players I love, but when it comes to SRV.....GOAT.
SRV is Texas blues! His brother Jimmie was lead guitarist for The Fabulous Thunderbirds, and the two of them did an album together called Family Style.
Yup! ❤
My absolute favorite SRV song! The tone he gets out of his guitar is amazing. It may have something to do with the outrageously thick gauge of his strings. They're almost like cables. His hands are incredibly strong, to manipulate these strings the way he does.
Stevie dressed (hat and all) like my father and played like my father...first time I saw SRV i wondered if my dad had a son we didn't know about 😉🎶🎵💚
It's so true that time goes faster as we get older. I'm 68 and it feels like I was 45 just a couple of years ago. You would love Sandy Denny singing "Who Knows Where The Time Goes"
And to think . . . his junior high school "music teacher" flunked him! LOL!
SRV and Jeff Healy playing ,Look at Little Sister is 🔥.
When I listen to SRV so do my neighbors.
The number one ¡¡¡
This song got me into SRV.
STV is definitely a legend. Another male rocker with that same kind of passion is Bob Seger.
I heard he picked up the guitar at age 7. Obviously, he rarely put it down after that.
Thanks for sharing!! I prefer to not live in a big city, but anywhere in the US is still heavy on making more and more. Most places outside the high urban areas have places where you can live like you describe.
Texas boy. (Notice my flag.)
Yes 👍💚

If you get on a helicopter and it’s foggy--GET OFF!!!!
You two love guitars stuff, so check out Jeff Beck doing "Cause We've Ended as Lovers" from his Live at Ronnie Scott's concert. Top notch. Beck could really make a guitar sing.
Thank you. We'll search for it 👍

I love Change It, esp. the live version at the Capital Theatre 1985
Jimmy Page called him the GOAT…That’s High Praise! 😎🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
