- Josh Manson's first career playoff goal was the OT winner as the Colorado Avalanche defeated the St. Louis Blues 3-2 in overtime to take a 1-0 lead in their second-round series.

Cred to Binnington he played unbelievably well, def was the reason they kept that game tight
The Blues are a very good team with depth and goal tending. But the Avs showed resilience and got it done in OT! Gotta give Binnington a ton of credit, he played his ass off! Avs weren't able to capitalize on shots as they hit about 5 posts. Regardless, the boys in burgundy and blue impressed the hockey world with this performance! Keep it up!!
Lol Blues arent that good. Colorado shouldve killed this game in 2nd period. It was so close they wouldve lost the series.

Bro, shots were almost 2:1 Avs. They dominated this game.
Binnington kept the Blues in the game plain and simple. I don't suspect he will be able to keep that performance up each game. Once the crack forms then it will get ugly for the Blues.
I've been watching the Avs since 1997 and can say this is the deepest team they've ever had.

Also, props to Binnington. Much like Jake Oettinger for the Stars in round 1, he’s the only reason they were in the game.

yeah, that's what everybody says year after year in the early stages of the playoffs. Then, they fizzle out, and they are knocked out in the second round.
If the Avs keep playing like this, I don't think we get many one goal games. Binnington kept Blues in this one.

Blues were lucky this game even headed to OT. A couple of post-shots and key saves from Binnington. Avs were way better all game, deserved win from Colorado boys.

@@fgcFooblez Yeah because when it happens 9 times that's "luck" and has nothing to do with absence of skill. Pretty sure it's more likely that the Avs were lucky Binnington didn't make one more regulation save.
The Avs are probably digging for lucky clovers, collecting horseshoes, doing a rain dance, and speaking in tongues to a voodoo doll in hopes that this one man doesn't single handedly send them home after the 2nd round again.

Blues were LUCKY to get this game to overtime...AVS outplayed them all game and had 50+ shots on goal, hit multiple posts, and missed many wide open net chances...

Except hitting posts isn’t bad luck but missed opportunities by Av’s.

Besides Binnington, the Blues were resoundingly outplayed. Nor did the Avs get frustrated, take dumb penalties, or let up. The Blues couldn’t manage even one SOG in overtime.
If that was a great game by the Blues, this will be a very short series.
It's not the first season that I've been a Colorado fan. These guys deserve to fight in the Stanley Cup Final. Forward Avalanche✊🏆

I don’t think it was so much the Blues playing bad as it was the Avs playing really well. They looked very rested, whereas the Blues had a 10x harder series with the Wild.

Agreed, Binnington played great but his two most stellar saves were because the Aves fanned on the shots. Had they gotten full shots off, he would have had no chance at saving them.

Well, Colorado was very aggressive, fast in the first game. Actually few chances for the Blues'. If Colorado keeps playing like tonight, the series will be short.

“It’s a game of Inches”
That was a quote made by Auston Matthews after the Leafs lost to the Bolts in game 7. I bring this quote up because it was the best way to describe how the game went between the Avs and Blues.
Everyone wants to give Binnington a lot of credit for his performance. I am not one of them. Kadri, Rantanen, Lehkonen and Cogliano was blocked by the crossbar and goal posts. Binnington was spared from having one of the worst performances in NHL playoff history. On the flip side, the concept of game of inches also applies to the Avs for their godawful complacent line change on the PK that resulted in a goal by Kyrou. Up until Toews’ penalty, the Avs played their game to perfection. That one mistake almost led to an upset and loss of home ice advantage.
Pundits need to get off the perspective that rest provided rust to the Avalanche. All throughout the season, when the Avs gets well needed rest, they come out blazing in their upcoming game. Game 1 was no different. Their shot attempt was over 100.
I never thought I’d see Girard and Manson contribute offensively on the biggest stage of the game. It was a pleasant surprise that uplifted the team. That said, I don’t see this as a habit going forward.
The biggest takeaway for me was how the Avs held Perron, Tarasenko and Buchnevich to one shot combined. If they keep this up, this is going to be a very short series.
I’ve been seeing a lot of smack talk from Blues fans. I used to be sympathetic towards them before they won the cup. Ever since they won the cup, this fanbase has been increasingly douchey. You would think they would follow O’Reilly’s example of staying humble after he opened his mouth last year. Maybe a UA-cam recommendation video is in order for Blues fan where Mackiinnon was memed as Michael Jordan and shows highlights of a whopping that took place in last year’s playoffs in the first round.

No one deserves to win. You have to earn it and the Blues defense did not do their jobs but the Avs did. Let's Go Avs!

this type of game is how st louis steals games/series and won the cup a few years ago. While they are down in this series, expect them to bounce back in subsequent games. they do that very well.

I think the Oilers vs Flames will be the series of the playoffs. I think the Avs will end their series in 5 games, they looked insanely dominant. Would’ve been a blowout if not for Binnington standing on his head.

Good god man Bennington had an amazing game and his team just let him down.
Keep in mind the Avs had a very short and easy series with the Preds, and the Blues had a tough one with the Wild. But also I think the Avs are a better team, so the combination of those two things made for a one-sided game.

Jordan Postington had a great game.
First, great job for Binnington, he played stellar. But, I think the closeness of this game can be chalked up to the aves having had too much off time between rounds. I don’t think the next game will be as close. There were two shots the aves had that if they would have gotten full shots rather than fanning on, they would have 100% had those two goals. Them fanning on them is the only reason Binnington saved them.
Binnington had an amazing game Keumper played good too but seems like not at 100% thank goodness I love both teams. Should be a good series

Wasn’t sure Avs would win the way they kept missing shots at point blank range plus a couple that hit metal. This shouldn’t have been as close as it was.
They haven't played in a little bit, though.
When you sweep a team in the first round, great. You get like a week to rest up your guys. But that can also mean that you're maybe not as energized on the ice.
Whereas a team like St Louis who played more recently, is still in "playoff mode"
Reminds me of Columbus VS Tampa in the first round sweep year.
Columbus was playing every game down the stretch like it was game 7, and Tampa was going on a cruise.
