    ABOUT TIK 📝
    History isn’t as boring as some people think, and my goal is to get people talking about it. I also want to dispel the myths and distortions that ruin our perception of the past by asking a simple question - “But is this really the case?”. I have a 2:1 Degree in History and a passion for early 20th Century conflicts (mainly WW2). I’m therefore approaching this like I would an academic essay. Lots of sources, quotes, references and so on. Only the truth will do.

      @@generalhyde007 I think he needs more like a month off. Doing the same thing over and over again regardless of it being your passion or not can become too much. Often times even to a point that you start to despise it. It is important you dont let it get to that.
      Also, perhaps he can consider getting some help. Its too much for one person to handle alone (even tho im sure he has someone helping with maps and graphics and such). If payment is an issue im sure he could easily find a volunteer here in his what has become a quite considerable audience, who could lend their help for free.
      What TIK is doing is nothing that the rest of us cant do. He's being nice enough to present each and every source for us. You want to know about it - read up. The thing though is that not every source can be trusted. And there is a loooot of material to cover. This is where TIK comes. He familiarizes himself with the lot of it and presents it to the rest of us folk who are too lazy, dont have the time or are unwilling to go through it all. Take the channel as a kind of "a one stop for all your needs on the topic" thing. And thats what makes it great.

    For anyone who might be confused, I suggest thinking about it in terms of classic siege warfare. Winter Tempest is like defenders sallying out against the attackers, which was done for a variety of purposes. In this case, to assist the primary efforts of an outside relief army. Only a small force would engage in this action, and likewise a small number of resources and preparations be committed. Thunderclap was the designated attempt to actually BREAK the siege from within. Full manpower, full resources, full withdrawal from positions along any other vector than that of the breakout attempt.

    • @gawdsuniverse3282
      @gawdsuniverse3282 Рік тому

      @@3dcomrade of course, but Paulus could have mounted an attack with his reserve, rather than doing nothing to breakout. The only chance the Six Army had was to break out as soon as the Soviets surround them, and that was never going to happen with Hitler in control.

    Great video. So the original idea was to link up, bring supplies and reinforcements into the pocket, then possibly evacuate the pocket. The "option 2" is just to accept that a link up isn't possible and that 6th army should fight its way out which will obviously turn into a rout since they don't have sufficient supply to get all the units moving in an orderly fashion. 6th army does get an order to start their part of the link up operation, but this comes at a time when they've been systematically starved for supplies, additional enemy forces stand between them and the army they are supposed to link up with, and the army they are supposed to link up with isn't likely to reach the original link up point.
    The subtext no one admits in their communications is that 6th army, or at least a large portion of it, is obviously doomed to defeat and surrender at this point. Link up and resupply isn't going to happen. They could try "option 2", suffer massive casualties, and surrender quickly or they could stay in position, suffer slower attrition, and surrender later.
    It will be very interesting to see how the remainder of this part of the battle plays out.

    You open my mind, change my point of view and tell me other history. And the BEST, with multiple points, books, studies, etc. who corroborate this.
    This is the reason that all the suscribers need your videos. Very thank you TIKhistory.

    i know you think this is just a little youtube series but this is really important what you are doing. getting things straightened out that ww2 generals and historians have been getting wrong for nearly 80 years. stuff like that doesnt go unnoticed in the wider academic world. great work tik

      TIK replied to me once and said he'd like to do a video on Lenin, and the internet could definitely use an exposé on the son of a witch since ignorant Marxists think he was a hero.
      TIK did say, however, that he had other things to take care of first, especially since a video on Lenin's worthless, bloodsoaked life would take a great deal of effort to put together. I figured I should give him a reminder at some point.

    1:10 TIK guy's head popping up from behind the German lines and blocking out the sun caused quite a scare for the Soviet defenders. Fortunately for them it was only a future historian describing the course of events.

      I haven't made any decisions yet, but the feedback has helped. I intend to do an update video later this week as I wasn't able to do one last week. I'm better than I was, but I know something has to change because the pace is too much.

    This is said without any irony; I am glad you repeated yourself a couple of times during the video, because it actually took me a couple of retelling with slightly different wording, to grasp the difference between winter-tempest and thunderclap. Great episode.
