ABOUT TIK 📝
History isn’t as boring as some people think, and my goal is to get people talking about it. I also want to dispel the myths and distortions that ruin our perception of the past by asking a simple question - “But is this really the case?”. I have a 2:1 Degree in History and a passion for early 20th Century conflicts (mainly WW2). I’m therefore approaching this like I would an academic essay. Lots of sources, quotes, references and so on. Only the truth will do.
I'm truly grateful for the impeccably high quality Battlestorm Stalingrad. It's a project that a whole team of writers, narrators, producers, etc would struggle with.
@Casey Gould... same here
its burning him out though, this heavy burden
@helloicanseeu2
He just needs some Pervitin and he will be fine
No it wouldn't
Thank you, TIKhistory.
FIRST!
@@TheImperatorKnight more to come
@@TheImperatorKnightthx for reviling Lord Mainstein's lies !!!!! Say it as a Pole. ALREADY scandal lot's of Waffen SS men took pensions from Western Germany until 90 years old
SECOND!
Thanks, man.
1. You need to finish it, or it will become your nemezis.
2. Your followers with OCD won't watch anything else until BS is over 😉
Please don't stop this series. Not just for us, but for future generations.
Definitely. TIK performs awesome fusion (an Army MI term) with historical data.
🎉
😮😮
I hope you are OK and you have rest a little TIK. Thank you for this amazing battlestorm episode. You already made my week. 🙌
Legit, regardless of the battlemap stuff, its all the decision-making and stuff that has been so interesting to see and experience. Your magnum opus matters.
Let me also say that it is well worth the wait. Taking the extra week to ensure accuracy and quality, while taking care of yourself, is more important than rushing the video and making mistakes (or burning yourself out.)
Let’s give TIK 2 - 3 weeks to make a video. It’s no good killing yourself like they did at Stalingrad. Congrats TIK! You survived another video.
Hopefully I made you laugh.
@@generalhyde007 I think he needs more like a month off. Doing the same thing over and over again regardless of it being your passion or not can become too much. Often times even to a point that you start to despise it. It is important you dont let it get to that.
Also, perhaps he can consider getting some help. Its too much for one person to handle alone (even tho im sure he has someone helping with maps and graphics and such). If payment is an issue im sure he could easily find a volunteer here in his what has become a quite considerable audience, who could lend their help for free.
What TIK is doing is nothing that the rest of us cant do. He's being nice enough to present each and every source for us. You want to know about it - read up. The thing though is that not every source can be trusted. And there is a loooot of material to cover. This is where TIK comes. He familiarizes himself with the lot of it and presents it to the rest of us folk who are too lazy, dont have the time or are unwilling to go through it all. Take the channel as a kind of "a one stop for all your needs on the topic" thing. And thats what makes it great.
OMG you keep doing battlestorm! Well done! Go at the pace you need, I can't believe you've kept going. IRON WILL!
Iron Within.
He received Manstein's Code word: Thunderclap.
When the opening credit drums come on, you know shit is about to get real.
Dumdum dum dum dumdum
Fantastic that you manage to keep on creating. Your series about Stalingrad is by far and beyond so above everyone else.
Tik, I didn't vote for Battlestorm or "Tanks", but it's still a genuine blessing to see you back to new content, which I will still eat right up. Hope all is well.
Seconded
Thirded
Operation Uranus and Little Saturn were already extremely impressive efforts from the Soviets. And yet, they can still casually bring a full army of 120 000 men to the front. The scale of this battle is just insane.
It would be nice to see the front these men came from. Russia expected Germany to attack towards Moscow again, so both sides were somewhat engaged elsewhere.
Lol and that's just the southern sector. Same time range you have Operation Mars and constant attacking near Leningrad. ( 2nd shock army was completely destroyed twice in 1942, trying to end the siege in the north.)
Against all odds, TIK comes through with another Battlestorm! Completely unexpected, you sir are a legend! Thanks again for your matchless contrubution to history, it is sorely needed and much appreciated.
Seeing all the red squares of the 2nd guards army suddenly materialize is like hearing the final nail being nailed into the German coffin. Great Video as always Tik
So happy to see battlestorm back!! This time is with our dear lord Erich Von Manstein!!
If anyone can save the 6th army, it's Manstein.
Battlestorm series are the best. Love the decision making in these historical campaigns! Thanks TIK
@@gustaveicke and also Steiner's counter attack
"It's not over until Hermann Göring sings."
Ahahahahaha!
This is just one of the reasons that we love all of your content, regardless of where you choose to take it in the future.
Wasn't expecting a Battlestorm today, excellent. Keep pushing, put out what content you feel you should and we'll be here. Content is always top notch history 👍
TIK, I'm wishing you the best. I know it's tough, and you probably never want to touch video editing software again, but you still somehow keep delivering installments of the best WW2 documentary ever made-- even though you don't have to.
Thank you.
Stalingrad has become your Stalingrad, you will win just do not lose the will.
😂
But what side is he on? :-)
Wenke will come.
@@lloydchristmas1086 Gruppe Steiner will clear it all out.
Battlestorm Stalingrad is perhaps the best historical series ever produced. If you have to make one episode a month or even less often, but please don't stop. There's just nothing else of this quality, and most likely never will be.
Battlestorm is always a highlight for me when it comes out, herculean effort TIK, it's appreciated.
Cant imagine the work that has gone into this, thank you i work 72 to 84 hours a week dont have time to do deep dives into my history books but your videos give me that fix.
OKAY THAT WAS AWESOME! That 2nd Guard's Army plot twist was absolutely brutal xD
Im glad you held them back for storytelling purposes until now 😂
Epic moment yeah 😄
There is nothing better than a Stalingrad episode after a long day of work! :)
For anyone who might be confused, I suggest thinking about it in terms of classic siege warfare. Winter Tempest is like defenders sallying out against the attackers, which was done for a variety of purposes. In this case, to assist the primary efforts of an outside relief army. Only a small force would engage in this action, and likewise a small number of resources and preparations be committed. Thunderclap was the designated attempt to actually BREAK the siege from within. Full manpower, full resources, full withdrawal from positions along any other vector than that of the breakout attempt.
Completely true, Manstein wanted Paulus to attack southwards to put pressure on the Soviets while Manstein attacked northwards. Again Tik is using a straw man argument in his constant campaign to discredit Manstein.
@@gawdsuniverse3282 the problem is that. The 6th Army situation by now is really dire, them attacking southwards means risking minimizing the size of their pocket
Starving men with lacking ammunition and guns are not a good recipe for a successful attack
@@3dcomrade of course, but Paulus could have mounted an attack with his reserve, rather than doing nothing to breakout. The only chance the Six Army had was to break out as soon as the Soviets surround them, and that was never going to happen with Hitler in control.
After the recent video regarding the future of the channel I wasn't expecting a Battlestorm Stalingrad episode so soon, I'm so happy you nonetheless managed to work one out. I'm greatly enjoying this gripping story, the soul destroying despair the German troops stuck in Stalingrad were facing at this point is very palpable, while the commanders had to take some very difficult decisions. Take good care and have a proper rest too, well done sir!
HURRAH TIK! Don’t give up, take breaks if you need to, I understand (I’m taking a break from reading about WW2 myself). You’re valuable
Seems pretty unanimous we're happy for more sporadic drops, pleasant surprise, and knowledge you aren't working self to a frazzle. Thanks again.
Your series on Stalingrad is a gift 🙏
You are the most studious historian I’ve ever heard. Thank you for your in depth, and truth revealing commentary.
Great job brother man. Glad we're still on the strongest horse.
Best war series Ever. You still teach me everytime and that isn't easy to do.
Happy for the battlestorm. Take it easy. Don't push yourself too hard. Burnout is really bad. It's hard to recover.
I know the grind of this series is difficult, but I greatly appreciate your willingness to continue doing it as I really enjoy learning from you.
Manstein lied, 6th Army died.
Excellent as always, TIK. Hope you've given yourself a reasonable timetable to work with.
Your Battlestorm Stalingrad serie is a flabbergasting piece of work! The quality of the channel TIKhistory is the best, by far, on UA-cam.
This is like "War and Peace" .... a monumental work worthy every minute ! Fantastic !!!!!
*Really* was not expecting a Battlestorm today mate. I really appreciate the work you do that goes into these even though I did vote for the political/ ideology/religion/philosophy choice. I might enjoy one more than the other, but I enjoy both a great deal as they appeal to different parts of why I love history.
Once again, thank you for what you do. Your presentation and attention to detail is unlike anyone else. Those strategic maps are brilliant.
Fantastic academic work on this. Your way of gathering information chronologically from so many sources seems to have allowed you to see things others who didnt put as much work into this as you missed. The tempest/thunderclap analisis and disputing manstines narrative could be doctorate worthy
This is an epic serie. A masterpiece, a reference for all other historians to come.
This should be more than enough for a very well earned doctoral degree. But in the academic system this work would have taken 30 years to complete...
Many thanks, fantastic work!
Just do these videos on the back burner, or you'll get burned (out). Everything you do for your channel should bring you pleasure & enjoyment. Thanks Tik
This series is simply a perfect example of the proper study of history. Thanks TIK, from a Londoner.
I rarely write comments but I feel the need to let you know how much I enjoy your videos. The amount of time and effort you’ve invested is apparent with the level of quality. As time goes, those who come across these videos will realize you did what no other man even attempted, let alone accomplish. They will then also realize how crazy you were
It's the sort of thing Samuel Johnson did, absolutely Herculean series which will be a reference for a very long time.
hi, yet another excellent video. You have done a great job explaining the complex events surrounding this critical time in the Stalingrad battle. Too bad you have not included what stalin knew ( code breaking intel) on a day to day basis in this period- Likely another entire series of videos. I hope you continue with this series. I understand the difficulties you face doing such a complex series. good luck.
Great effort, the immersing of the viewer into the subject matter feels like it could be a BBC production and exploding the myth of the break out order really rewrites what I personally thought I knew about the breakout order debate.
Great effort, thanks man!
Whatever happens, you gotta complete this. It’ll be the definitive video documentary on Stalingrad for a long time
idk why you don't like to do Battlestorm Stalingrad. it's as you say, this is one of the most pivotal moments of ww2 and you get to expound on it and shape the views of large amount of people with your exposition. all your stuff is good TiK, but surely this is the most fun?
Make these as you are able, but please don't stop. I am willing to wait for this content.
All of your videos are gems i love the battlestorm series❤
Great TIK!... Remember to take your time and don't overdo it. We are in no hurry.
Love it! Wait a second! I thought you're not doing Stalingrad anymore?! You are so close to being finished! Amazing!
Another hour very well spent. Many thanks.
I think you are one of the only history UA-camrs who started and still is doing this mostly out of passion. I have never seen documentaries animated and researched so well. And as a video idea, could you make a series on Edward VIII (like you did on Moseley)? Explaining his early life a bit, his political views, his brief kingship, later life, etc.
This is a true work of art. You are a part of history and are an international treasure.
Great video. So the original idea was to link up, bring supplies and reinforcements into the pocket, then possibly evacuate the pocket. The "option 2" is just to accept that a link up isn't possible and that 6th army should fight its way out which will obviously turn into a rout since they don't have sufficient supply to get all the units moving in an orderly fashion. 6th army does get an order to start their part of the link up operation, but this comes at a time when they've been systematically starved for supplies, additional enemy forces stand between them and the army they are supposed to link up with, and the army they are supposed to link up with isn't likely to reach the original link up point.
The subtext no one admits in their communications is that 6th army, or at least a large portion of it, is obviously doomed to defeat and surrender at this point. Link up and resupply isn't going to happen. They could try "option 2", suffer massive casualties, and surrender quickly or they could stay in position, suffer slower attrition, and surrender later.
It will be very interesting to see how the remainder of this part of the battle plays out.
Wow a new episode to watch has made my day, thanks for all your hard work TIKhistory.
Dude you honestly deserve to be doing speaking tours and be considered an expert by higher academic circles. The amount of research and work you do is absolutely insane, and I can’t believe how much I learn even in just one video of yours. Thank you so much for providing this quality content, you truly are a blessing.
Still captivating work TIK. Thank you.
Just outstanding, as always. This series is the finest thing I've ever watched on U Tube.
the best detailed and informative ww2 videos on YT.. Stalingrad was a huge event in ww2 and needs justice done to it. far too often before its been skipped over as simply "a German army got trapped, got beaten, the end" ... the reasons why Stalingrad was so important and why it needed to be held with ramifications for the rest of the Eastern Front.
Great stuff TIK! I, for one, love your Battlestorm series and when Stalingrad is done, I hope you do another similar series. Mind you, I can never get enough on Stalingrad! Best wishes!
"Why didn't they just break out??"
-People who don't know how geography works.
This was a man very anxious about dying. Imagine waiting for weeks to be rescued and it never being clear what the hold up is.
Hope you're feeling better TIK?! Another great Battlestorm video lifting the lid on previous views & why, thank you! 🙏🙏
Wasn't expecting a video this week, thanks TIK.
Thank you very much for great job. "Yerik" (Rus. "Ерик") - is a word used in the south of Russia, near Caspian Sea to name shallow channels, connecting lakes, bays, other channels and branches of rivers with each other, as well as with the sea.
So pleased to see this series continued. Truly a massive project and a stunning result. Thanks for the effort TIK.
Hope you took some time for yourself. Having said that it's great to see you back.
Please look after yourself, your loyal fans aren't going away and will wait for your next video.
I'm grateful for Battlestorm Stalingrad series. If this series was never made Mansteins book "Lost Victories" would have the last say in what happened.
13:40
1. Manstein never "blamed" Paulus for not breaking out.
2. AG south knew that they couldnt fight there way all the way into the encirclment, thats why the 6th army was supposed to *breakout towards them simultaneously* in order to occupy the soviets that were holding up the german relief forces.
Paulus was complainant in Nuremberg's judgments by Soviet. But he could never be face to face with Manstein. That was a shame. They could have said a few things. Excellent Video Grand Channel of History. Thanks for the content!
Enjoying all your wok. Pace yourself and just deliver the quality you can. Stay healthy.
I had no hope or expectation of a new battlestorm episode, but I will accept it with gratitude. Not much further now. Question: Are there historical eras outside WW2 and land war that could ever become topics?
He never finished the north African theater or Italian theater yet
@@TheAngelobarker not what I asked, but okay
TIK, thanks for clarifying for us the difference between operations Winter Tempest and Thunder Clap.
Hope this episode hasn’t fatigued you too much, It certainly was enjoyable.
Thank you for the great content. I recently read Ian MacGregor's Lighthouse of Stalingrad, and really enjoyed it.
Greatest series on UA-cam!
Without doubt.
This series is EPIC! It is also amazing that the Germans even after this loss fought on for another 2 1/2 years while it was inevitable that they would lose the war.
Mostly dont comment on videos but wanted to show my intrest in this series here.
Thanks for the hard and valueable work Tik!
i relax to this stuff because i have awesome dreams when war documentaries are playing in the background
Such clearificaton cannot be found on any other channel. Kudos to TIK!
You open my mind, change my point of view and tell me other history. And the BEST, with multiple points, books, studies, etc. who corroborate this.
This is the reason that all the suscribers need your videos. Very thank you TIKhistory.
i know you think this is just a little youtube series but this is really important what you are doing. getting things straightened out that ww2 generals and historians have been getting wrong for nearly 80 years. stuff like that doesnt go unnoticed in the wider academic world. great work tik
Happy to see that you are continuing battlestorm Stalingrad... good luck
Best WWII channel on UA-cam
Ohh Man I've been waiting for this episode....thank you so much TIK...its the best series Seriously
Thank you for your channel, TIKhistory. Still looking forward to your eventual video on the life and atrocities of Lenin because we could really use it!
No atrocity Olympics
@@samsonsoturian6013
TIK replied to me once and said he'd like to do a video on Lenin, and the internet could definitely use an exposé on the son of a witch since ignorant Marxists think he was a hero.
TIK did say, however, that he had other things to take care of first, especially since a video on Lenin's worthless, bloodsoaked life would take a great deal of effort to put together. I figured I should give him a reminder at some point.
One of your very best…looking forward to Paulis’ reaction and curious if he even launched any initial “small” attack
1:10 TIK guy's head popping up from behind the German lines and blocking out the sun caused quite a scare for the Soviet defenders. Fortunately for them it was only a future historian describing the course of events.
I’m doing overtime on a bank holiday, this has made it that bit easier 😎 you’re a legend Tik, what a man
Really glad to hear that you will be finishing Stalingrad series
Outstanding Tik. Puts a lot of questions to bed. We all appreciate the effort involved.
What an amazing surprice TIK! Very happy with my monday evening now, you rock!
Thank you vey much for going on with battlestorm
Hey. This may be a bit of a weird question but, how are you doing? Have you decided how your going to focus the channel from now on?
I haven't made any decisions yet, but the feedback has helped. I intend to do an update video later this week as I wasn't able to do one last week. I'm better than I was, but I know something has to change because the pace is too much.
@@TheImperatorKnight That's good to hear! Hope you can keep doing this amazing content

Amazing forensic analysis - good work TIK!
There is not a single other content on UA-cam that makes me as happy as each new installment of this series ❤
Thank you for your hard work, TIkhistory. This is the premier history series on UA-cam.
Huh thats odd. I saw a new Battlestorm had come out - then I realized that this had also come out... but I never noticed.
As always outstanding work TIK - maybe a little too much hand holding on the unpacking of Thunderclap and Winter storm but really solid as always
Awesome! Hopefully you keep going with stalingrad, your videos are great
This is said without any irony; I am glad you repeated yourself a couple of times during the video, because it actually took me a couple of retelling with slightly different wording, to grasp the difference between winter-tempest and thunderclap. Great episode.
Bless you sir. I've been having a blast binging this series and telling my friends about what I've learnt.
Please don’t stop This series Tik. This is brilliantly put together
Thank you for pushing through with this TIK. Just remember that we are extremely grateful for your work. Take your time. The quality of your work is worth waiting for. Look after yourself first.
