Born & living in Korea... That they can casually say "I didn't watch it... because ya know, subtitles" feels somewhat deprived. Korea has its own big film industry, but LOTS of good films come from abroad and reading subtitles is so common that it's not even thought of as a barrier. Maybe It's just a blessing for English speakers that so many (if not most of) films are written and spoken in English so that they don't even have to care about those aren't. But that doesn't mean ALL of good films are in English. I hope someday they become a bit more versatile. ADD: And you should watch all of the movies in that category at the first place before voting!
Albert Joe And it shouldn’t be a barrier. It’s sad that people feel this way. And I agree! And I’ve seen all the international films! I always watch every single film that is nominated!!
Why PARASITE should be the Best Picture winner? Because it's unique and fresh as the orange, compared to war films and I questioned others..."I need an original one, you gave me common ones."
Max Joseph - Film Person still my bet is 1917, and who knows might be Jojo Rabbit or Joker (but it is in my wild guess, might be a big surprise).. Parasite won SAG for casting and sure get Best International Langauge Feature. Klaus should win the Best Animated Feauture
I’m really hoping Parasite will win Best Picture. I know 1917 and Hollywood probably have better chances, but I’m still really hoping it can pull through.
Max Joseph - Film Person || I still think Hollywood has a better chance than Parasite, because the old Academy voters are so nostalgic for it, but I think the top 3 are all in very close competition.
Best picture favorite to least favorite 1 Parasite 2 Joker 3 1917 4 Once upon a time in Hollywood 5 Irish man 6 Little Women 7 Marriage Story 8 JoJo Rabbit 9 Ford v Ferrari
It will be historic if Hildur will win the Oscar for the score as the fist solo woman. However even more historic is that she will be the first Icelander ever to win (she is the 9th Icelander nominated). Will be fantastic for a nation of 350.000 to finally get an Oscar.
I really hope Parasite to win Best Picture. But if OUATIH make it, I won’t be disappointed. Tarantino deserves it. I’ll be very mad if 1917 wins Best Picture
Inexorable Videos Absolutely. I think George MacKay and Dean-Charles Chapman are brilliant, Thomas Newman delivers arguably the greatest score of his career, the sound design is easily the best of the year, and I cannot believe how insane the visual effects are.

Mud Piez Listen, I am Parasite’s number 1 fam, but I also think 1917 is a remarkable piece of cinema. Both are deserving of best picture, I just think Parasite deserves it more.
The more love parasite gets the better. (It was a big snub from cinematography) people need to be introduced to the foriegn film world. And parasite is the perfect gateway.
Nir Yovel Studios Amen. One of my top 5 films from last season was Never Look Away. It absolutely blew me away. I don’t think I blinked for all 189 minutes of it. I hope Parasite inspires people to watch more than just films made in America. 👍
@@rivaxbcz9227 my point is a when the commen person hears "this film won best Picture at the Oscars" he'll be more inclined to watch it then if it didn't win best Picture. It's just the world of cinema is.
@@legomoviesstudios8822 lol, a lot of people will say in majority "ah, it's trash because they are no action"; people will going to see what they love again; For a lot of people, cinema is juste : a movie is just a moment of pure distraction and they have no interest in cinema
It’s easily down to Parasite and 1917. Another huge hurtle for 1917 is the lack of the sag ensemble nom. Only two films have managed to win the best picture Oscar without getting that nomination. It’s the same reason La La Land most likely lost best picture. At this point I’m praying for Parasite to take it all
Jackson Devlin Totally! But also, Moonlight is better than La La Land (in my opinion). And I’ll be SO thrilled if Parasite wins, but I’ll also be happy with 1917. I adore both of them.
If I had to pick: Best Picture: Irishman Director: Scorsese Original: Hollywood or Parsite (both superb) Adapted: Irish Best Actor: DiCaprio Best Support: Pesci Best Actress: ScarJo Best Support Actress: Florence Pugh Editing: Irish Sound Editing: Ford Sound Mixing: Ford Cinematography: Lighthouse Visuals: Irish Animated: Toy Story 4 Makeup: Bombshell International: Parasite
Your videos are so great, thanks for being one of my top oscar channels, along with the oscar expert, your channel is definitely one I'll be returning too
1917 won the Critics Choice Award for Best Film Editing yet it wasn’t nominated for the Oscar. Same thing happened last year with First Man as well which that film is way better edited than Bohemian Rhapsody that won the Oscar.
My ranking of the Best Picture nominated films of this year (I loved them all btw): 9. The Irishman 8. Once Upon a Time in...Hollywood 7. Little Women 6. 1917 5. Ford v. Ferrari 4. Jojo Rabbit 3. Marriage Story 2. Parasite 1. Joker
BowserMew id go 9: Ford v Ferrari 8: The Irishman 7: Joker 6: 1917 5: Little Women 4: Marriage Story 3: Jojo Rabbit 2: Once upon a time in Hollywood 1: Parasite
I’m still going the “Predict with my heart” path and going with PARASITE. If SPOTLIGHT can win with SAG and WGA, then I think PARASITE can do it too...granted, SPOTLIGHT wasn’t foreign. If 1917 wins, I won’t be thrilled but I didn’t hate the film. I WILL be livid if HOLLYWOOD pulls it off.
its funny how a lot of people did not like the film, and then so many people did love it! I am one of the ones who enjoyed it. Then again, a lot of voters did not like parasite from what I have read from anonymous voters articles, so... ya can't please everyone. I have not seen parasite but I wasn't aware it was like a horror/thriller type movie which movies like that typically do not win best picture. At least from what I have seen in the past... :/ another thing is parasite hasn't won a best picture award yet other than best foreign film obviously. we shall see what happens. I do not want this to be a completely predictable award show.
TitanicLover93 Which Film are you talking about at the beginning? Parasite? And I think besides acting, and a couple others, anything can happen. And you should for sure watch Parasite! It’s remarkable
I honestly don't want 1917 to win at all because for me it is difficult blocking for unnecessary gimmick and I don't believe in a good film with a bad screenplay, if Hitchcock doesn't who am I to dare believe. 1917 is alienated, irresponsible and actually pretty generic in mostly everything BUT cinematography: sound ir normal but really loud because of imax so people think it's better than it is, score is triumphant like a marvel movie with more beat to it, poor acting mostly thankful to a lousy screenplay that doesn't seem to care about the psychology and the trauma of its characters, missed opportunities in shot composition because of the single take that doesn't seem effortless like in many other films (if Cuarón didn't win anything for Children of Men who is Sam Mendes in the line for the bread - Brazilian expression, sorry haha). JUST PLEASE LET PARASITE WIN, it has tone, originality, self awareness, social awareness, a original score that convinced me it used classical music in some bits, great acting, great control, editing, production design, a cinematography that is at its best for highlighting the everyday in a realistic yet aesthetically pleasing way. What is subtitles, really? How do americans think their movies play and make money in other countries? Parasite is the sole deserving film BUT I still think it's going to Hollywood. It's this feeling.
I think he delivered a better performance than Jonathan Pryce in The Two Popes imo. I think the biggest reason why he wasn’t nominated in a lot of awards shows Ian because of the late screen time. Just my theory.
Laura Jones I think you may be right, my friend. It’s not normal for a film to come out so late to be doing THIS well. I do wonder what would’ve happened if it had come out even a month earlier... 🤔
#PughGang I loved Scarlet in Marriage Story. But honestly I am in the minority but I was rather disappointed by her character in Jojo Rabbit... her character was lacking something and I don’t quite know what it is.
Best Picture - Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood Best Director - Sam Mendes (1917) Best Actor - Joaquin Phoenix (Joker) Best Actress - Renee Zellweger (Judy) Supporting Actor - Brad Pitt (Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood) Supporting Actress - Laura Dern (Marriage Story) Original Screenplay - Quentin Tarantino (Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood) Adapted Screenplay - Taika Waititi (Jojo Rabbit)
I like the way you think. I have a feeling 1917 will take all the technical awards, and save the bigger awards for other movies. I am rooting for OUATIH for best picture! I know a lot of people will be pissed, but I truly feel it is Tarantino's time!!
Best Picture Nominees Ranked: (Haven’t Seen 1917) 1. The Irishman (Easy Best) 2. Parasite 3. Once Upon A Time In Hollywood 4. Ford V Ferrari 5. Marriage Story 6. Joker 7. Jojo Rabbit 8. Little Women (BTW I do actually really like Little Women)
I was waiting for your predictions! Let's see who wins this sunday! As long as joaquin wins his category I am up for being surprised with the other categories

Nir Yovel Studios Im with you on Parasite. *PLEASE!!* Interesting that you have Parasite winning Pic, but losing Screenplay! And I love that Avengers pick!
@@MaxJosephFilmPerson I think screenplay is lock for tarantino. Won it at the globes and it's tarantino (the master dialogue) making what is most likely his 2nd to last movie. The Oscars will want to give him that before his grand finale.
Nir Yovel Studios I actually think Parasite is the frontrunner, especially because it won the BAFTA and WGA! But Tarantino is totally right behind him. Wouldn’t be shocking if he won it.
Predicting Parasite more because I am going with my heart. It's the best film there and the only films that matched it for me this year werent even nominated.
Feel like I’m the only one in the comments who actually wants 1917 to win - 1917 and parasite were the best films of the year imo and I happened to prefer 1917 more due to its technical achievement yes, but also it’s human story at heart, I was completely captivated by the groundbreaking cinematography and honestly it evoked the most emotion out of me out of all the films. I believe every single aspect is done to near perfection. In regards to the musical score I also want to add that I prefer Newman’s score over Joker’s. I love jokers but I believe Newman evokes a far wider rage of atmospheres and emotions from the audience compared to Joker, from tension building, sorrowful scenes as well as completely breathtaking
Earoothad Targaryen First, 10000% with you on Newman. I think he should be winning score. And don’t get me wrong, I LOVED 1917! If it wins, I’ll be thrilled!! SO deserving! But if it were up to me, I’d give it to Parasite, because I find it more impressive overall.
In my opinion Adam Driver’s performance was better than Joaquin Phoenix’s, but Phoenix deserves it due to his 20 year long history of completely being snubbed by the Oscars.

Magnitude Reviews GREAT stuff! Thanks for taking the time to type all this out!! And I’d LOVE for there to be a split!! Also, THRILLED about your pick of Klaus. That would be too perfect. I want it to happen. Both are great, but would love an original to win.
My predictions are, Best Picture - 1917 Best Director - Bong Joon-Ho(Hopefully) Acting Categories - Too obvious... Editing - Parasite Original Screenplay - Parasite Adapted Screenplay - I’m so torn between Taika and Greta. Can’t it be tied? But Jojo looks more promising. Production Design - Once upon a time Cinematography - Roger Deakins(Crazy he just won once) Visual Effects - Avengers please Animated Film - Klaus(Hopefully) International Film - Parasite
1917 not being nominated at CAS is probably because of screener issues, but I think the fact that BAFTA didn’t nominate any BRITISH actors in a BRITISH film for the BRITISH Academy does say quite a bit against it. I think Parasite has more acting support, so that’s why I’m predicting it over 1917, even though 1917 would not shock me at all. I also feel like Joker could upset in one of the techs, specifically Editing, Makeup or Sound Mixing. I feel it in my bones and I’m tempted to do it.
George Ehret Yeah, that late release is something to consider. And I hope you’re right, and Parasite wins it all. Ooooo, that’s interesting! Yeah, I’ve wrestled with Joker possibly coming in to spoil in those sound categories.
TitanicLover93 it won SAG Ensemble. Getting the nomination alone spoke volumes, the win was the icing on the cake. 1917 was completely shut out at SAG (again probably because screeners), but again, the BRITISH Academy didn’t nominate any BRITISH actors from a BRITISH film for a BRITISH award show. Also, Green Book missing Director was also a red flag, and look what happened there.
If they were to shrink down the two sound categories down to just one. Then the category I'd like to replace would be "Best Choreography & Blocking" Choreography would include dance sequences (Insert great musical that isn't Cats here) and fight sequences (John Wick). And for blocking it'd have to have something like 1917 or Marriage Story getting in this year. With 1917 taking the award this year.
Max Joseph - Film Person yeah it’s one part of the industry that I believe deserves a lot more appreciation. Some other more common options would be: - Best Voice Acting - Best Stuntwork (aka the Tom Cruise category) - Best Motion Capture Performance (aka the Andy Serkis award) - Best Ensemble - Best Casting - Best Directorial Debut - Best Breakthrough Performer (Florence Pugh would win this year) Anything is a good option in the technical categories. Best Popular Film is a joke and should never happen. Director should not have a male/female split. And I wouldn’t have a problem if the Oscars had a major overhaul by introducing individual genre categories such as: Best Drama, Comedy, Horror, Action, Musical, etc... then having the winners of all those categories become the Best Picture nominations and then the BP win is picked from that pool of nominees. Tho that would make the voting even harder because then there would be a second wave of voting once the winners are announced and well would cause a lot of confusions and kinda screw up predicting polls like Gold Derby because the Best Picture nominations would not be announced until the night of the award show taking place.
I wish Uncut Gems and Knives out would have gotten more love, but this year was just too stacked. There are so many more options for nominations for all the different categories, but I'll honestly be happy with any win for the major ones. Solid picks!
Ryan Wade I LOVED both of them, but I never thought Uncut Gems was a serious Oscar contender unfortunately. And thanks for the love, my friend! Do you have any bold predictions?!
Max Joseph - Film Person, I think my bold prediction for it would be Marriage Story for best picture, it’s one of my favorites of the year and I’d love to see it win
@@MaxJosephFilmPerson Parasite deserves every award it was nominated for, but I do think Tarantino deserves something. OUATIH was my favorite Tarantino since Inglourious Basterds.
IGJL Express See, I think Hollywood is... fine. But for me, not even CLOSE to Bastards. Parasite should have it’s own Oscar ceremony and should win every single award. It’s perfection.
Taxi Driver didn’t win a single Oscar and that is one of Scorsese’s most well known films. I think the biggest reason why it didn’t win a single award is because the film was very controversial when it was released especially with the depiction of violence. Also, it was released during one of the best years in movie history, 1976. So, it had so much competition along with Network, Rocky and All the President’s Men.
i really would like to know what makes PARASITE so special. i haven’t seen it, but everyone talks about that movie SO good. by the way, from the fact that i haven’t seen parasite, my hopes are on 1917. it’s a true story, it’s so powerful and i really felt inside the movie while i was watching it. it’s probably going to win, but the Academy sometimes makes different decisions, so the parasite’s win would be not that surprising. i’m so sure about Sam Mendes winning for Best Director, Joaquin Phoenix for Joker, Brad Pitt for OUATIH. the other categories are a mystery to me because i don’t know them that much.
That’s interesting how in such a competitive year of great movies and performances ALL 4 acting categories have become the most easily predicted ones in history 😅
I love how Parasite won all the major categories, when you pretty much overlooked the film through out your whole prediction posts. It is until now you are forced to discuss this film because of all the accolades it has received until this point. Before this you wanted every other film but Parasite
Social Change what?? I literally predicted it winning last month... and predicted it to win earlier today... when did I overlook it? It’s been one of my favorite movies of the year since the day I saw it. Not sure what you’re saying, my friend.
I watched Jojo Rabbit today and I really hope it gets Adapted Screenplay. It's so brilliant and light and funny and enchanting and moving. It's Taika's masterpiece and he should be recognized for it. Also, my Brazilian heart says to not count Edge of Democracy out of the Documentary race; know it's basically impossible but I thought it wouldn't even be nominated and here we are!
I thought you would pick Parasite 😁 I actually feel it’s gonna be Parasite something just tells me it will win BP. I also feel we’re gonna get a shocker on oscar day. Wait for Jojo winning or Joker and it’s actually possible.
Andrea Dcosta Trust me, I REALLY wanted to. My gut is telling me to pick Parasite, but it’s hard to go for it, based on these stats. And OMG, if Jojo won, I think I’d freak out more than if Parasite won. Cause Jojo would be SHOCKING, and almost out of nowhere. I’d be THRILLED.
Max Joseph - Film Person same here. And Jojo has a chance I feel but in a very rare case. Joker may be too divisive to win. Many won’t give it No2 or 3 votes for sure.
First, thanks Max for all your informative work with your movie reviews and your Oscar countdown shows. Always enjoyable and I look forward to them all. Do you think it is possible to have a shocking upset this year? I have also heard a number of people batting around the idea that the number of Best Picture nominations should be the same as Best Director, so they need to revamp the Best Director category. Your thoughts? Enjoy Sunday evening. I will be cheering, clapping, and possibly screaming right along with you!
Dee Lang Thanks for the love, my friend! Totally possible (and likely) to at least have one shocking upset!! And I think that I’m fine to keep Director at 5, but make Picture be 10 every time. And YAY! We’re so close!!!
Love your predictions. I agree with all your predictions. As much as I’d like to see Parasite win Best Picture or Best Director, I think it’s going to 1917. But there is a huge chance that Parasite will win Best Original Screenplay, maybe Best Film Editing and is definitely winning Best International Film. All the acting categories seem to be locked up and I’m happy with all of them winning 🤗🏆🙌❤️
TitanicLover93 I think there still might be a chance that there is a split between Best Picture and Best Director but I think if the split does happen, it would be Best Picture going to 1917 and Best Director going to Bong Joon-Ho. The biggest predictor of Best Picture is the PGA winner, 1917. It doesn’t mean that 1917 will win but it’s chances are a lot higher because of that win. I think Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood has a really good chance of winning Best Original Screenplay because the Academy really really really loves Quentin Tarantino.
Brother if Joker won Best Picture it would be the most undeserving Oscar win of all time, second to Bohemian Rhapsody winning Best Editing and Rami Malek winning Best Actor, of course.
As much as I love Parasite (Best film in 2019) the complexity of 1917 is giving to win all the Oscars Parasite deserves... I just hope that they give adapted screenplay to Gerwing for her snub at the directors category (Hate to se Philips there). Two days ago I made a list and is almost identical to your winners .Today I'm sending my predictions based on your predictions in a contest for a YEAR OF MOVIE TICKETS... hope for the win. Great video.. great predictions.. awards seasons are almost over... sad
You and me both with Phillips, as someone who loved Joker, Gerwig should be in there. And I'm honored to be the person you go off of! Best of luck, let me know how it goes!! But to be honest, I really hope I'm wrong on a few of the categories.
TimeIdle I don’t hear it every day, but I’ve spoken to voters who have said that. Not a rumor. There are many voters who believe that international films shouldn’t even be eligible, and I think that’s ridiculous.
@@MaxJosephFilmPerson Who are these voters you know? Anonymous Ballots? :) Unless you have a big sampler, it's impossible to guess what impact these here and there naysayers would have. I'm sure in the Academy there were devout Catholics who'd refuse to watch a hit piece like Spotlight; closet racists who'd refuse to endure 12 Years a Slave, and homophobes who would never sit through Moonlight, but there you go. They won BP.
@@MaxJosephFilmPerson Ha. It was a rhetorical question. Point is there won't be enough of those voters who would make an impactful difference. Good luck tonight.
I agree that they should give it to Parasite, but I totally disagree on 1917 being boring. I think it’s AMAZING! I just think Parasite deserves it more!
I think Parasite will win Best Picture, the storyline with Korea's 100th anniversary of cinema, and it being the first international film just give it that lovable edge.

Max Joseph - Film Person Me too !!!!!! It was my BEST movie of 2019 !!!!! I can still cry/smile (at the same time) watching the ending !!!!! I can’t wait for Taika to accept the award for he Adapted Screenplay !!!!!
Even though I loved 1917's score i really want to see Hildur's winning she already has a Grammy and an Emmy she's hopefully coming for her EGOT status!
Irina Cortez Well I think that Oscar is coming Sunday night!! And I’d be SUPER into whatever music she’d write for a musical! Please put that into my ears!!
Cynthia Erivo just needs that Oscar (Lead Actress or Original Song to get the EGOT!!! I’d love to see Hildur get one as well. Also just waiting for Lin Manuel Miranda to get that oscar so he can complete his PEGOT (includes Pulitzer Prize)
I think everyone is forgetting that 1917 and Parasite have no acting nominations. It is rare for a movie to win best picture without any acting nods. I know 1917 won best picture at globes and Baftas, but I think the academy have different standards when it comes to that. When you’re voting for nominees for best picture, you look at everything including the acting/cast. The fact that parasite got no recognition for the acting makes you wonder. It all goes hand In hand when voting for best picture, I think.
I talked about that! It’s very rare, last time was Slumdog Millionaire (one of my favorite best picture winners). Who do you think will win, my friend??
My main necessary opinions: - As much as I loved 1917, I would want Ford V Ferrari to win Sound Editing or Sound Mixing. It would be surprising if it would win both. 1917 would just sweep Cinematography and Film Editing. - Avengers: Endgame would be a divisive yet a surprising win for the Visual Effects category. - Best Picture isn't a lock, for me, it's the game of Parasite, 1917, OUATIH and even Joker because surely these films will win big on the major other categories such as for Directing, Acting & Screenplay. If the Academy would be cocky like last year, Parasite would be this year's Roma; winning directing and international feature film but no Best Picture. It would be a divisive win for the other 3 in claiming the award, and possibly even disappointing for a lot. This is why for me the Best Picture award this year is too tight and unpredictable. - Joker would be this year's Bohemian Rhapsody, no love for the major categories like Best Picture, but the Acting Category is always the charm for which is a complete lock for the win including the Best Original Score, it would be a mess if they won't.
- Ford v Ferrari could totally get both of those - Would LOVE for Avengers to win visuals. Would be AWESOME, but also thrilled for 1917 if that happens. - I think Pic is between 1917, Parasite and Hollywood. I can't imagine a world where Joker wins, but also, it has the most nominations lol. It's for sure a tight race, and I love it. - O yeah, Joaquin is winning, there's no question, and I do believe that Hildur will win score!
@@MaxJosephFilmPerson 1. Best stuntwork 2. Best casting 3. Best popular film 4. Best title design 5. Best choreography 6. Best non physical performance 7. Best ensemble 8. Best location scouting 9. I also figured that for best popular film, I mean we have categories dedicated to documentaries, international films and animated features. So why not this one?
Shane Aycock BIG fam of choreography! That would be SO fun!! Imagine if they added it next year for In The Heights AND West Side Story!! Would be AMAZING
Shalom from Australia! I've been following your predictions since the start - keep up the amazing work. I'm still going with my heart and predicting PARASITE for best picture. Hopefully I get to see a video of you reacting to its win!!
Jennifer Shin Shalom, 🇦🇺!!!! Thank you for following and for the love, my friend!! And I love that you’re going with your heart. I want to SO badly. I really want Parasite. And you’ll get a reaction no matter what. Whether it be Parasite, 1917, Hollywood, etc., it’ll be up there early Monday morning!! Here’s to hoping! 🍑🍑🍑🍑🍑
My Predictions : I agree that the game goes to '1917 vs Parasite'. But 1917 won CCA, PGA, BAFTA Picture, and Parasite, unfortunately, none. Parasite won SAG ensemble, Eddie, WGA, etc. but not 'best picture'. So Oscar will want to present best picture to 1917. However, the concern(not my concern, maybe Oscar's concern) is that Parasite is obviously powerful frontrunner in original screenplay! Screenplay winners has highly been attached to Best Picture. Then how can Oscar present best picture to 1917? The answer is more categories to 1917, and less categories to Parasite. Oscar will give every ambiguous category to 1917, I think. And they will say "Parasite wins International feature and 'original screenplay', but 1917 wins more categories! So we can't help choosing 1917 the best picture, ha ha!" * Best Picture - 1917 (2. Parasite) And here are ambiguous catogories. They will go to 1917, I think. * Production Design - 1917 (2. Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood) * Sound Mixing - 1917 (2. Ford v Ferrari) * Visual Effests - 1917 (2. The Irishman) Editing is the important category, because it can define best picture. But Oscar will present best picture to 1917, so they won't present best editing to Parasite which is the rival of 1917. They will choose an unrelated film, Ford v Ferrari. * Film Editing - Ford v Ferrari (2. Parasite) Writing branch is very very important, and I think the winners are already outlined. BAFTA, and conclusively WGA! Tarantino is a powerful candidate, but I suppose he is unlikely to win. If he win original screenplay, Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood will take best picture, because it already has supporting actor. (screenplay + acting = Best Picture.) Oscar wants to present best picture to 1917!!! * Original Screenplay - Parasite (2. Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood) * Adapted Screenplay - Jojo Rabbit I can predict these categories easily. * Directing - Sam Mendes 1917 * Cinematography - 1917 * Makeup and Hairstyling - Bombshell * Original Score - Joker * Original Song - "I'm Gonna Love Me Again" Rocketman * Sound Editing - 1917 * International Feature - Parasite * Actors - Joaquin Phoenix, Renee Zellweger, Brad Pitt, and Laura, done. Costume Design, 'Jojo Rabbit vs Little Women', will go to Little Women. Because Little Women is tough to win any other categories. Fortunately Jojo Rabbit already has adapted screenplay, so Little Women will take leftover. * Costume Design - Little Women Animated Feature becomes a tight match between Toy Story 4 and Klaus. Klaus won 7 awards in Annie awards, and Toy Story 4, none. Toy Story encounters a tough competitor. However Toy Story is famous and it is a box office hit picture in USA. In addition, Oscar loves Pixar. So Toy Story 4 is still the frontrunner in this category. * Animated Feature - Toy Story 4 (2. Klaus) Animated Short and Feature are tied. If Toy Story 4 lose feature category to Klaus, Oscar will present short category to Pixar. However, the frontrunner of short film is Hair Love now. * Animated Short - Hair Love (2. Kitbull) And here are the other categories. * Documentary Short - Learning to Skateboard in a Warzone (If You're a Girl) * Documentary Feature - American Factory * Live Action Short - Brotherhood (or Neighbors' Window? I have no idea :) ) So this is my conclusion. 1917 - Directing/Cinematography/Production Design/Sound Editing/Sound Mixing/Visual Effests -> Best Picture! Parasite - Original Screenplay/International Feature Joker - Leading Actor/Original Score Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood - Supporting Actor Marriage Story - Supporting Actress Judy - Leading Actress Jojo Rabbit - Adapted Screenplay Ford v Ferrari - Film Editing Little Women - Costume Design Bombshell - Makeup & Hairstyling Rocketman - Original Song If 1917 lose Production Design, Sound Mixing, Visual Effests and Parasite win Film Editing? Then Parasite can win Best Picture! (original screenplay + editing -> powerful!) I think this scenario is unlikely to happen. ;( I always enjoy your channel. I love your neat and clear explanation! And your reactions, too!!
최형우 Wow! Thanks for typing all this out, my friend!! Stats are hard to fight, which is why I’m going with 1917. Even though I want to say Parasite. But records are meant to be broken. So like, it’s not IMPOSSIBLE.
Winning sag doesn’t matter for parasite, it isn’t correlated with picture, and I don’t think the argument for the actors branch being in the academy being the biggest works, because if the actors branch really liked parasite they would’ve given it at least one acting nomination. It’s very sad but 1917 is taking picture.
Tommy Thin I agree that they should’ve nominated an actor. And this is all why i don’t have it winning Best Pic. But I actually do love 1917. I just love Parasite more.
In my world: Best Picture: OUATIH Best Director: Quentin Tarantino Best Actor: Joaquin Phoenix Best Actress: Renée Zellweger or Scarlett Johansson Best Supporting Actor: Brad Pitt Best Supporting Actress: Laura Dern or Florence Pugh Best Original Screenplay: OUATIH Best Adapted Screenplay: Little Women or Jojo Rabbit Best Animated Feature: Toy Story 4 Best Original Score: Joker Best Original Song: (I’m Gonna) Love Me Again or Into the Unknown Best Costume Design: Jojo Rabbit or Little Women Best Production Design: Jojo Rabbit or OUATIH Best Film Editing: Ford v Ferrari Best Sound Editing and Mixing: 1917 Best Visual Effects: The Irishman Best Makeup: Bombshell or 1917
1917 makes sense, absolutely. But man my gut is screaming Parasite, it has been since October. I have to take the gamble this time. If I am wrong now I tell it to shut up and play it safe next year but I have to stick with Parasite now. 1917 just doesn't feel right. I have a decent track record with Best Picture so I am taking a massive risk.
Max Joseph - Film Person Well my gut has predicted these - The Irishman suffers from early frontrunner status and will face the same fate with A Star is Born - 1917 would become a bigger player (I didn’t think it would win the PGA, but Globe and BAFTA absolutely) - Toy Story 4 is not as strong as expected and Klaus challenges it - That Jlo would be snubbed, same with Taron - That OUTIAH would be the early frontrunner but that editing loss causes it’s downfall - Parasite being nominated for SAG and winning it. - Taika’s DGA nod - Jojo overperforming at the Oscar noms But my gut failed me on these - No way Joker gets 11 nominations! No way Todd Phillips makes it - Greta Gervig will get Best Director - Song Kang Ho gets in for supporting actor - Surprise Portrait of a Lady on Fire cinematography nomination. - Uncut Gems pulls a Phantom Thread and gets Picture and Director nomns. - Both Pryce and Hopkins snubbed and The Two Popes getting lone screenplay nomination. So it’s 57% chance that my gut instinct is correct...
@@MaxJosephFilmPerson I've been predicting since The Artist year. Moonlight & Green Book were the only ones I didn't get right. I have to stick with Parasite even though 1917 is more likely. I just for some reason have a hard time seeing 1917 win, it goes against the winners we have seen from the last 10 years. 1917 feels so much like The Revenant, Gravity & La La Land while Parasite feels like Spotlight & Moonlight. I need to go down with this ship even though I'm scared to predict against the PGA.
Shalom indeed! I love your predictions. And although I finally saw 1917, I am sticking to my guns, and taking the plunge with Parasite. 1917’s George McKay is a revelation, but Parasite’s entire acting ensemble is priceless! Have a wonderful time on 2/9/20; I know I will! 🏆🎉🏆🎉🏆
Michael Z. Lewis I love that, my friend!! I would be SOOOO happy if Parasite won. I want it so bad. With ya McKay, he’s extraordinary. And yes! Can’t wait!!
I'm a huge fan of Thomas Newman and knowing that he wont win again makes me so frustrated and disappointed. He should've won long time ago with American Beauty
The Artist, a French Movie, won for Best Picture back in 2011. So saying that Parasite is not gonna win because is not neither an American movie or one from the UK is a flawed statement
This comment isn't related to the Oscars but I have to say this: why didn't you do a reaction video to TENET's teaser? It's the new Nolan film!! How have you not talked about it yet?
Nir Yovel Studios Ugh, I cannot wait for that movie. And I just missed that for a reaction. But trust me, I’ve seen it MANY times, and I need it to come out ASAP
@@MaxJosephFilmPerson will you see it in IMAX? Do you care about different formats of movie showings? (35mm, Dolby, imax, 70mm ect.) Or are you fine with just digital standard?
Nir Yovel Studios As long as I see it in theaters, I’m happy. But I’m down to do whatever format! IMAX and Dolby are my go to’s if I have the option. But I’ll do whatever!
@@MaxJosephFilmPerson I normally try to see it in the format the director intended. If it's a chris nolan movie I'll go IMAX. If it's a QT I'll try to find 35mm film showings. If I can't.... well I go to my local theater.

Really sad that The Irishman is out of the race. Was my favourite of the year. I was so happy when it was front runner for major awards. In a dream world it would pick up picture and supporting actor for Pesci but that’ll never happen. I still hold hope that Pesci could pull of an upset but I doubt it. Sad that this could be Scorsese’s last masterpiece it’ll get no recognition at the Oscars

I get so incredibly mad whenever I hear an American say “Didn’t watch it cause... ya know. Subtitles”. Like actually, what the heck?! I live in a non-English speaking country so every movie from America is a foreign language film for me. I go see them anyway. Because they are good movies. I feel like America has some greatness complex when it comes to films. Like they think their films are more worth than other countries. I’ve had this brewing for a while.....
I thought the Oscars were 1st about American cinema, 2nd English language cinema and 3rd very one else. Am I wrong ? It's the American Academy of Arts and Sciences right ? Asian film awards don't even give any foreign film a nomination ever.
@@cheong728 I think you're partially right. But more on the basis of films in the English language as British films are seen a lot in the category. And the thing about The Academy is that it isn't based on americans (It's only the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences). As I understand it) it's based on winners and nominees; The nationality is therefore 2nd priority. Therefore I think 1st and 2nd is combined. However I don't think the Academy sees it that way they just don't watch foreign language films. The reason for this, I think, is the so called 'Hollywood Handjob". As most of the Academy have their day to day life in Hollywood they want to praise it as much as possible. You see movies which aren't Oscar worthy getting nominated for the sheer reason of Hollywood praising Hollywood. So they ignored foreign films unless they really can't (When films are popular or made by an established oscar-darling). The people who vote on foreign film can vote for Best Picture but they are a small group out of all of them and their vote could quickly get ignored unless it a popular movie or made by an established filmmaker.
@@MaxJosephFilmPerson Yeah. We've never seen a whole lot of christmas movies nominated or win won of these awards you know? So fingers crossed this becomes the first.
i really like watching all the oscar awards talk, the only negative is it takes away the suspense from some of the awards. if they do make a new award it should maybe for stunt work. if it was an award tom cruise would of been the meryl streep of that award.
Jedindianajones Would love it to be for stunt work!! And you are 100% right, my friend. Hopefully they’ll make a Mission Impossible movie when that award is introduced 😉
I'm not too sure if Ford V Ferrari's Best Editing win at the BAFTAs really means anything. Each of the five times a film predominantly featuring driving cars was nominated in the past decade, it went on to win (Senna, Rush, Fury Road, Baby Driver, Ford V Ferrari). I think it's just a BAFTAs thing at this point, they really like car movies. Though it could still win because, as we learned from Bohemian Rhapsody's win, a lot of voters interpret "Best Editing" as "Most Editing".
Luuk Hulsman it’s one of the greatest movie experiences I’ve ever had in my life!
👏👏👏👏👏
You should give it a try anyway. When I watched Parasite, I didn’t even notice the subtitles.
PLEASE let me know what you think!!
Why PARASITE should be the Best Picture winner? Because it's unique and fresh as the orange, compared to war films and I questioned others..."I need an original one, you gave me common ones."
Parasite 100% SHOULD win.
@@MaxJosephFilmPerson it will win, because it is clearly the frontrunner with "Once upon a time". 1917 will get Best director
Aaron Jan Listanco I’d LOVE for Jojo to win. But that would be more shocking than Parasite winning, and Klaus winning would be WONDERFUL
Still with 'PARASITE' winning "Best International Film", "Best Director" AND "Best Picture". But not doing any bets.
Diane Young I pray you’re right, my friend!
Also prob editing or p design
Parasite for best picture and 1917 for best diretor. I love both and both are deserving
xavier bouchez 👏👍
Diane Young you’ve should’ve bet lol
I’m really hoping Parasite will win Best Picture. I know 1917 and Hollywood probably have better chances, but I’m still really hoping it can pull through.
Finn You and me both, my friend. I think Hollywood is in 3rd, though.
Max Joseph - Film Person || I still think Hollywood has a better chance than Parasite, because the old Academy voters are so nostalgic for it, but I think the top 3 are all in very close competition.
Finn For sure! It’s between the 3, so we shall see!
I think that Parasite have now better chances for Best picture. For best director, it will be 1917.
xavier bouchez || I hope Parasite gets both Picture and Director, but I’ll be happy if it gets either.

Joker has no shot. It’s between parasite, 1917 and Hollywood. Jojo rabbit has like a once in a blue moon shot but everything else is dead
It will be historic if Hildur will win the Oscar for the score as the fist solo woman. However even more historic is that she will be the first Icelander ever to win (she is the 9th Icelander nominated). Will be fantastic for a nation of 350.000 to finally get an Oscar.
Kiddy Amunda YES! SO excited for her!! Will be HISTORIC
She had a very impressive 2019 with both Joker & Chernobyl.
She deserves that oscar so much.
I really hope Hildur wins, her score is just so haunting. It’s like a character in the movie
I really hope Parasite to win Best Picture. But if OUATIH make it, I won’t be disappointed. Tarantino deserves it. I’ll be very mad if 1917 wins Best Picture
Replicant A3 Fair! What don’t you like about 1917?
Max Joseph - Film Person it’s just another war movie, it was amazing not gonna lie but not original enough to win in my opinion
Elena Oooooo, I disagree, HARD on that, my friend. I think it is inCREDIBLE.
Max Joseph - Film Person think of it this way: if the film wasn’t designed to look like a oner, would you still think it was incredible?
Inexorable Videos Absolutely. I think George MacKay and Dean-Charles Chapman are brilliant, Thomas Newman delivers arguably the greatest score of his career, the sound design is easily the best of the year, and I cannot believe how insane the visual effects are.

If Parasite is Best picture, i don't think it will be a real surprise, because the movie is one of the frontrunners for a few weeks.
xavier bouchez Totally! But it has a lot of history saying it won’t win, unfortunately
I think Parasite has it. Sam Mendes gets Director.
They F###ing Did It.
1917 did not grab me ultimately..Parasite is a masterpiece. Bong Joon Ho is the best director this year.
Sailing Sam Totally fair! With ya on Parasite being a MASTERPIECE
1917 is boomer bait. LETS GO PARASITE!!!!!
excuse me but people don't need oscars & co to be introduced to foreign films, if they like cinema. I live in Europe, my vew is different)
@@rivaxbcz9227 my point is a when the commen person hears "this film won best Picture at the Oscars" he'll be more inclined to watch it then if it didn't win best Picture. It's just the world of cinema is.

André Camilo Shame
I thought the editing in 1917 was one of the most impressive things about the movie.

1917 won the Critics Choice Award for Best Film Editing yet it wasn’t nominated for the Oscar. Same thing happened last year with First Man as well which that film is way better edited than Bohemian Rhapsody that won the Oscar.
Its the scene transitions which made the movie so effective.. there wasn't much of a job from an editor's perspective.. the direction was astounding..

Anthony Host I PRAY you’re right, my friend. I’m with ya. Although I did LOVE 1917, but Parasite is just on another level.
TitanicLover93 Which Film are you talking about at the beginning? Parasite? And I think besides acting, and a couple others, anything can happen. And you should for sure watch Parasite! It’s remarkable
@@MaxJosephFilmPerson oh sorry! I was talking about OUATIH :)
I've been watching your Oscar Predictions since the start. Love what you're doing!!!
Thank you for the love, my friend!!
First!
I just watched 1917 and it was amazing! Also wondering why George MacKay's performance hasn't been recognized anywhere.
First to respond!! My friend, I'm so glad you loved 1917!! And I'm with ya, he should be recognized. He was BRILLIANT
I wonder if George MacKay will be nominated for Globe, SAG, BAFTA and Oscar.
Laura Jones If it had come out earlier?! I think that would be VERY possible
Seeing this 2 am im Spain having school tomorrow. Great vid
Diego Nou Hey 🇪🇸!!! Thanks for the love, my friend!
I would honestly love to see Johannson take the supporting actress award, I personally feel she carried Jojo more than Dern with Marriage Story.
Dean Handy me. TOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Arguably my favorite character of the season.
If I had my way, Pugh would be taking it
Zach Ruggiero Pugh was great, just feel like Johansson was more of a standout. But I agree Pugh was awesome.
Zach Ruggiero Would LOVE that as well.

I loved Scarlet in Marriage Story. But honestly I am in the minority but I was rather disappointed by her character in Jojo Rabbit... her character was lacking something and I don’t quite know what it is.
The fact that Marriage Story isn’t going to win an Oscar is absolutely disturbing.
Laura Dern!!!

Interesting that you have Parasite winning Pic, but losing Screenplay!
@@MaxJosephFilmPerson I'll be happy for both. They're both great scripts!
Nir Yovel Studios 👍👏
Predicting Parasite more because I am going with my heart. It's the best film there and the only films that matched it for me this year werent even nominated.
Hey, I just subbed simply because you seem like a nice guy. Fair and honest :D!!!!
Thanks for the love, my friend!!
You are not the only one. I have my fingers crossed for 1917.
In my opinion Adam Driver’s performance was better than Joaquin Phoenix’s, but Phoenix deserves it due to his 20 year long history of completely being snubbed by the Oscars.
Inexorable Videos They were both SO good! Driver will win in the next few years I’m sure.
Hell yeah.. He was snubbed
Just because I can... I will be making my predictions into "Will Win (WW)" vs "Should Win (SW)" and snubs. Also, I do believe there will be a Director/Best Picture split this year.

Magnitude Reviews GREAT stuff! Thanks for taking the time to type all this out!! And I’d LOVE for there to be a split!! Also, THRILLED about your pick of Klaus. That would be too perfect. I want it to happen. Both are great, but would love an original to win.
Magnitude Reviews And thank you for including Dolemite in Hair & Makeup!!!!
My predictions are,
Best Picture - 1917
Best Director - Bong Joon-Ho(Hopefully)
Acting Categories - Too obvious...
Editing - Parasite
Original Screenplay - Parasite
Adapted Screenplay - I’m so torn between Taika and Greta. Can’t it be tied? But Jojo looks more promising.
Production Design - Once upon a time
Cinematography - Roger Deakins(Crazy he just won once)
Visual Effects - Avengers please
Animated Film - Klaus(Hopefully)
International Film - Parasite
Great predictions, my friend!
And right?! It is crazy that Deakins only has 1 Oscar!!
YAS AVENGERS & KLAUS!!!
Estimated best picture odds (based on awards so far and expected oscar bias):
1917 40%
Parasite 35%
OUATIH 15%
Jojo Rabbit 6%
Joker 3%
other 1%
William BRUN Crazy that Irishman is in that Other!
@@MaxJosephFilmPerson The Irishman has won nothing so far, there's a lot of competition this year.
William BRUN It’s crazy!
Parasite has more acting support..?? It got zero acting nominations... that should be a red flag... :/
The Academy was totally wrong to not put George MacKay up for actor.
Would’ve been so good! I wonder if it had come out a month earlier, if he would’ve had some more momentum
If they were to shrink down the two sound categories down to just one. Then the category I'd like to replace would be "Best Choreography & Blocking"
Choreography would include dance sequences (Insert great musical that isn't Cats here) and fight sequences (John Wick). And for blocking it'd have to have something like 1917 or Marriage Story getting in this year. With 1917 taking the award this year.
Magnitude Reviews That would be a good one!! Haven’t heard that yet!!
Max Joseph - Film Person yeah it’s one part of the industry that I believe deserves a lot more appreciation.
Some other more common options would be:
- Best Voice Acting
- Best Stuntwork (aka the Tom Cruise category)
- Best Motion Capture Performance (aka the Andy Serkis award)
- Best Ensemble
- Best Casting
- Best Directorial Debut
- Best Breakthrough Performer (Florence Pugh would win this year)
Anything is a good option in the technical categories.
That would be CRAZY!!
I want 1917 to take the technical awards, so Hollywood can take Director, and Bong can have Screenplay and Picture.
IGJL Express I. Would. Scream. Of. Happiness. If. Parasite. Won. Picture.
Grand Hotel, Max! Won Best Picture in 1932 and it was its only nomination.
Maaaax, Parasite was nominated for Screenplay at the Globes.
AwardsWatch I know it was! I meant for pic! I’m sorry! Should’ve made that more clear!
@@MaxJosephFilmPerson Carry on! :)
Crazy to think that one of the best Scorsese films will probably leave the Oscars empty handed
Matheus Cunha I legit would’ve never dreamed of that 6 months ago. It’s insane.
Laura Jones TOTALLY! Crazy that Joker happens to be nominated at the same time...
Did wolf of Wall Street win anything? Cause that was by far his best film of the decade
Zach Ruggiero It did not!
If there's an actor upset, who do you think it will be?
Driver. But it would be shocking.
Alice Kotowicz Every Acting Upset
Best Actor: Driver
Best Actress: Johansson
Best Sup Actor: Pacino
Best Sup Actress: Johansson
I cannot believe people have been rooting for The Neighbors' Window for best live action short when Brotherhood and Saria exist!
They're both wonderful! But I really enjoyed The Neighbor's Window!! This is always one of my favorite categories!
i really would like to know what makes PARASITE so special. i haven’t seen it, but everyone talks about that movie SO good. by the way, from the fact that i haven’t seen parasite, my hopes are on 1917. it’s a true story, it’s so powerful and i really felt inside the movie while i was watching it. it’s probably going to win, but the Academy sometimes makes different decisions, so the parasite’s win would be not that surprising.
i’m so sure about Sam Mendes winning for Best Director, Joaquin Phoenix for Joker, Brad Pitt for OUATIH. the other categories are a mystery to me because i don’t know them that much.
See Parasite lol. But to be fair, I LOVE 1917. I’ll be thrilled with either winning.
Max Joseph - Film Person i watched that, and it’s AMAZING. but even if it was so beautiful, i still prefer 1917. but i would be happy for each wins!
virginia vai Totally fair!! I’ll also be happy for both of them 👍
That’s interesting how in such a competitive year of great movies and performances ALL 4 acting categories have become the most easily predicted ones in history 😅
Right?! It would be shocking it it was anyone else!
Max Joseph - Film Person We still should be ready for everything to happen... Oscars love surprises as much as snubs 🙈
Sandró Roman Yes. They. DO.
Thank you for uploading~!
I"m very looking foward for this weekend~!! What could be happend~??!!
Hope to win Parasite for best picture and director~!
Heevely S Thanks for watching, my friend!! And 🤞
I love how Parasite won all the major categories, when you pretty much overlooked the film through out your whole prediction posts.
João Pedro You and me both. I wept watching it. And Edge of Democracy isn’t DONE, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s something like that!!
João Pedro also, hey 🇧🇷!!!
@@MaxJosephFilmPerson It had such a great response by other nominees on that Class Photo video. Makes me a little hopeful
João Pedro Totally!! It would be very exciting to see it happen!
Andrea Dcosta Exactly. The way the ballots work, it’s just VERY unlikely.
Can u rank the DCEU next after BOP comes out?
😉
I think they''ll split up director and picture. Director: Sam Mendes; Picture Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. :)
Adam Waters 😞 But also, 1917 is deserving. It’s so good. But like, 🍑🍑🍑🍑🍑🍑🍑
Max Joseph - Film Person totally agree with you. 1917 is a great film and is deserving of the awards it wins. I love parasite too 🍑🍑🍑🍑🍑🍑
TitanicLover93 I think there still might be a chance that there is a split between Best Picture and Best Director but I think if the split does happen, it would be Best Picture going to 1917 and Best Director going to Bong Joon-Ho.
Adam Waters Absolutely
Honestly I would of liked to see Joker win for best picture but to see Parasite or 1917 winning would be amazing !
I would be SHOCKED if Joker won. It would also break the internet lol
stay_ woke_v3 the thing I don’t like about joker winning best picture is that people would say that it deserved it and is the best movie ever.
Brother if Joker won Best Picture it would be the most undeserving Oscar win of all time, second to Bohemian Rhapsody winning Best Editing and Rami Malek winning Best Actor, of course.
Inexorable Videos Yeah, that editing award was... interesting
Max Joseph - Film Person it's a shame the academy did that to her... 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️ but she is going to win adapted screenplay
Hensel Oller Villarreal Idk... I have Waititi winning over her. I’d be thrilled with either of them tbh.
3:27. How and how often have your heard this directly from Academy voters? Or is this just some kind of so-called insulting rumor?
TimeIdle Unfortunately can’t say who they are, sorry!
@@MaxJosephFilmPerson Ha. It was a rhetorical question. Point is there won't be enough of those voters who would make an impactful difference. Good luck tonight.
Parasite should win for the originality.
Christina Lee agreed!
1917 is boring... if u truly think oscar as global award they should give it to parasite
Ake Bjornblad I PRAY you’re right
My want to win:

Director: Bong Joon Ho, Parasite
Actress: Renee Zellweger, Judy
Actor: Joaquin Phoenix, Joker
S. Actress: Kathy Bates, Richard Jewell
S. Actor: Al Pacino, The Irishman
O. Screenplay: Parasite
A. Screenplay: Jojo Rabbit
Animation: Missing Link
Cinematography: The Lighthouse
Production: 1917
Costume: Little Women
Editing: Parasite
Makeup/Hairstyle: Bombshell (I totally agree with John Lithgow looking amazingly different)
S. Editing: 1917
S. Mixing: Ad Astra
Visual: Avengers: Endgame
Score: Joker
Song: I'm Standing With You, Breakthrough
Foreign: Parasite
Docu Feature: Honeyland (this year was amazing for documentaries, IDK why 2 didn't make it in for Best Picture i.e., Honeyland and American Factory (I loved American Factory, but I want Honeyland to win based on the subject)
Animate Short: Kitbull (only watched 3 of the noms)
Docu Short: Walk, Run, Cha Cha (watched all but St. Louis Superman)
Live Short: Saria
I have Parasite winning 5, YAYY!!!
If Cast, Stunt and Voice-Over were categories:
Cast: Parasite
Stunt: Avengers: Endgame
Voice-Over: Hugh Jackman, Missing Link
I find it amazing how I watched almost all the nominated films this year. Like 95% give or take (THOSE SHORTS!!!). Any other year would be less than 80%, save for 2012 when I watched almost all as well (again, THOSE SHORTS!!!).
I think 1917 is way overrated. I did not enjoy the film. I don't know how it got a screenplay nomination.
My 10 Best Films of 2019 (Dream Nom) and in order:
Parasite
Jojo Rabbit
An Elephant Sitting Still

American Factory
Peanut Butter Falcon
The Last Black Man in San Francisco

Erivo will get that Oscar soon, as will Lin. SO soon. Maybe they’ll team up! Lol
To be honest, I’m really not sure. What I’m rooting for to win is once upon a time in Hollywood! One of my favorite films of last year! :)
TitanicLover93 That’s great! Well it for sure has a chance!!
👍🏻
1:43 in Portugal 🇵🇹🇵🇹🇵🇹🇵🇹🇵🇹
Parasite must win
16 Janeiro 1993 RocketMan Hey 🇵🇹!! And I hope you’re right!
My main necessary opinions:
- As much as I loved 1917, I would want Ford V Ferrari to win Sound Editing or Sound Mixing.
- Ford v Ferrari could totally get both of those
- Would LOVE for Avengers to win visuals.
BTW, if the Oscars decided to add more categories for future shows, what would you want to see? And yes, you can name as many as you like.
Shane Aycock LOVE this!

@@MaxJosephFilmPerson Ok that's a good reason :]
IGOR PODEMSKI Lol! 👍
So we can't help choosing 1917 the best picture, ha ha!"
* Best Picture - 1917 (2. Parasite)
And here are ambiguous catogories. They will go to 1917, I think.
* Production Design - 1917 (2. Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood)
* Sound Mixing - 1917 (2. Ford v Ferrari)
* Visual Effests - 1917 (2. The Irishman)
Editing is the important category, because it can define best picture. But Oscar will present best picture to 1917, so they won't present best editing to Parasite which is the rival of 1917. They will choose an unrelated film, Ford v Ferrari.
* Film Editing - Ford v Ferrari (2. Parasite)
Writing branch is very very important, and I think the winners are already outlined.
Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood)
* Adapted Screenplay - Jojo Rabbit
I can predict these categories easily.
* Directing - Sam Mendes 1917
* Cinematography - 1917
* Makeup and Hairstyling - Bombshell
* Original Score - Joker
* Original Song - "I'm Gonna Love Me Again" Rocketman
* Sound Editing - 1917
* International Feature - Parasite
* Actors - Joaquin Phoenix, Renee Zellweger, Brad Pitt, and Laura, done.
Costume Design, 'Jojo Rabbit vs Little Women', will go to Little Women. Because Little Women is tough to win any other categories. Fortunately Jojo Rabbit already has adapted screenplay, so Little Women will take leftover.
* Costume Design - Little Women
Animated Feature becomes a tight match between Toy Story 4 and Klaus.
* Animated Feature - Toy Story 4 (2. Klaus)
Animated Short and Feature are tied. If Toy Story 4 lose feature category to Klaus, Oscar will present short category to Pixar. However, the frontrunner of short film is Hair Love now.
* Animated Short - Hair Love (2. Kitbull)
And here are the other categories.
* Documentary Short - Learning to Skateboard in a Warzone (If You're a Girl)
* Documentary Feature - American Factory
* Live Action Short - Brotherhood (or Neighbors' Window? I have no idea :) )
So this is my conclusion.
1917 - Directing/Cinematography/Production Design/Sound Editing/Sound Mixing/Visual Effests -> Best Picture!
Parasite - Original Screenplay/International Feature
Joker - Leading Actor/Original Score
Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood - Supporting Actor
Marriage Story - Supporting Actress
Judy - Leading Actress
Jojo Rabbit - Adapted Screenplay
Ford v Ferrari - Film Editing
Little Women - Costume Design
Bombshell - Makeup & Hairstyling
Rocketman - Original Song
If 1917 lose Production Design, Sound Mixing, Visual Effests and Parasite win Film Editing? Then Parasite can win Best Picture! (original screenplay + editing -> powerful!) I think this scenario is unlikely to happen. ;(
I always enjoy your channel.
@@MaxJosephFilmPerson I really really hope so, seriously!
최형우🤞🍑
Winning sag doesn’t matter for parasite, it isn’t correlated with picture, and I don’t think the argument for the actors branch being in the academy being the biggest works, because if the actors branch really liked parasite they would’ve given it at least one acting nomination. It’s very sad but 1917 is taking picture.
Tommy Thin I agree that they should’ve nominated an actor. And this is all why i don’t have it winning Best Pic. But I actually do love 1917. I just love Parasite more.
I was so moved at Joaquin's speech 💖
In my world:
Best Picture: OUATIH

Best Production Design: Jojo Rabbit or OUATIH
Best Film Editing: Ford v Ferrari
Best Sound Editing and Mixing: 1917
Best Visual Effects: The Irishman
Best Makeup: Bombshell or 1917
Oooo, you're big on OUATIH!! And that would be interesting if Irishman managed to win visual effects!
Luuk Hulsman YES AVENGERS!
My gut is also screaming Parasite. I want to listen to it SO bad. I love the gamble, my friend!
Max Joseph - Film Person Well my gut has predicted these
- The Irishman suffers from early frontrunner status and will face the same fate with A Star is Born
- 1917 would become a bigger player (I didn’t think it would win the PGA, but Globe and BAFTA absolutely)
- Toy Story 4 is not as strong as expected and Klaus challenges it
- That Jlo would be snubbed, same with Taron
- That OUTIAH would be the early frontrunner but that editing loss causes it’s downfall
- Parasite being nominated for SAG and winning it.
- Taika’s DGA nod
- Jojo overperforming at the Oscar noms
But my gut failed me on these
- No way Joker gets 11 nominations! No way Todd Phillips makes it
- Greta Gervig will get Best Director
- Song Kang Ho gets in for supporting actor
- Surprise Portrait of a Lady on Fire cinematography nomination.
- Uncut Gems pulls a Phantom Thread and gets Picture and Director nomns.
- Both Pryce and Hopkins snubbed and The Two Popes getting lone screenplay nomination.
So it’s 57% chance that my gut instinct is correct...
Oskari How’re you feeling now?! What do you thinks gonna happen?!
I will say that no matter what wins, every single one will be a major stat-breaker and as a result we will have an interesting discussion.
Sam Mendes won an Oscar for Best Director for American Beauty
Radioactive 06 Yep yep yep. But at the same time, thrilled for Hildur.
@@MaxJosephFilmPerson of course but my sadness for newman is bigger than my excitement for Hidur :'c
Radioactive 06 Totally understand. Maybe he’ll get it on his 16th nomination...
Radioactive 06 he should’ve won for The Shawshank Redemption, one of the best film scores of all time
The Artist, a French Movie, won for Best Picture back in 2011.
So saying that Parasite is not gonna win because is not neither an American movie or one from the UK is a flawed statement
Ian Said Because The Artist was a silent film, it didn’t count as a “foreign language film”.
Nir Yovel Studios Totally!! Love that! My favorite is IMAX, just because I love the size of the picture I’m watching.

I hope you are right
JJangByung We shall see!!
I am the last person on earth vouching for The Irishman to win best picture. Huh, no wonder I'm semi-sociopathic
notsoshadysadie In a strange world, it could happen! But I just don’t think it’s gonna.
JayRag It truly is crazy that it really may not win a SINGLE Oscar. That is so strange
Bro if Marriage Story doesn’t win one Oscar I’m flipping out
Jackson Paul Laura Dern!!

@@LihtsaltHans At least they got Cinematography!!
Couldn't agree more. 👏
In all honesty, I really want Klaus to win. There's not enough mainstream 2d animated films anymore.
ME TOO! I love Toy Story 4, but I want something new and original to win!
@@MaxJosephFilmPerson Yeah. We've never seen a whole lot of christmas movies nominated or win won of these awards you know?
So fingers crossed this becomes the first.
Shane Aycock Totally! I’m with you, my friend 🤞
i really like watching all the oscar awards talk, the only negative is it takes away the suspense from some of the awards. if they do make a new award it should maybe for stunt work. if it was an award tom cruise would of been the meryl streep of that award.
Gchwow Thats why I didn’t have it winning. And YEP, “Most editing” will always be something that voters go for.
Thats very curious
