Lin Gaoyuan beat Ma Long in the Chinese super league 2 months ago as well as in the Asian Championship warm-up match 2 weeks ago. But Lin Gaoyuan has never beaten Ma Long in international events.

Ma Long was (is) as good or better than the new generation is now, 10-15 years later. Also coming back after 1-2 hard years. Goat!
Ma Long turning back the clock, not as fast as he once was, but some superb BH play here (he used to pivot much more, running around his BH ). He served nearly all the time wide to Lin Gaoyuan's FH corner, where Lin, in the modern style, gets right across to return serve with his BH, i.e. covering nearly the whole table with BH returns. You could see at the end that this victory meant a lot to Ma Long, still holding a place in the world's elite.

@@reinaldopessoa2603 the most important thing is the fact that he still holds the best winning record against non Chinese players. If a Chinese player loses to Chinese is OK 👌 and sometimes even on purpose. If he loses to foreigners he is finished, no matter if he is top ranking the players for Olympic Games must have consistency against foreigners. The risk for a coach to decide for Ma Long not to play will be so huge that eventually he will be given the chance cause Wang and Fan both can lose easily to foreigners and Ma has a much more better consistency ratio than Wang against foreigners. Also bare in mind that Olympics and World Cup games are the 2 areas that the best players give it all and these are the important stages for these players and don’t care so much about smaller events! This means that Ma is not yet giving his 100% potential. I believe he will shine ✨ again in Olympics!!!!

I was hoping Lin to win this match. He has been playing well. At least, Lin didn't lose because of choking. It was Ma somehow executed better at the end.
No spectators. Liu Guolang, the chinese table tennis legend as player and coach, once said that he concerns about the popularity of table tennis more than the result of matches. Heavyweight balls are luring stupid stuff in table tennis. They make table tennis become bored with very few touches in every balls series, and with more offgame time, less long rallies, less visual athletic skills shows. The less touches in every ball series, the less ongame time, the more offgame time, and players lose more their time for offgame time to go to pick up balls.
HEAVYWEIGHT BALLS MAKE TABLE TENNIS MANUFACTURER AND PROFESSIONAL PLAYERS TO BE POORER AND POORER, because heavyweight balls make table tennis extremely difficult to play amateur social games for new beginners. Thus majority of new beginners leave away from table tennis, and there be very few new beginners still keep playing table tennis (extremely difficult to play game for beginners).
It requires few weeks of training for new beginners to reach minimal amateur levels to play amateur social games in other sport, for example in badminton, billards, .. . It is very stupid big time training requirement for beginners in table tennis, thus majority of new beinners just leave table tennis. I personally see much many real life cases today : private commercial table tennis club halls are revamped to become badminton club halls, because table tennis is extreme difficult to attract enough number of new beginners to get profit for running commercial table tennis clubs as commercial social sport services. If the commercial private table tennis halls have high ceils, then their owners often cancel table tennis club services to convert halls into commercial badminton club or other sport services halls to get profit, because there are very few new amateur table tennis players.
The reason of stiff difficulty of table tennis for new beginners : heavyweight balls make table tennis to be extremely difficult for new beginners : they fly extremely lightening fast in air, and they are difficult to control for beginners. Lightweight balls make table tennis become extreme easier for new beginners : they fly slower in air, they are easier to control for beginners. With lightweight balls, every ball series will have more touches in average. Thus table tennis matches will have more ongame time and less offgame times, thus players have more ongame time. It is valuable ! Because amateur players pay their time to play table tennis matches for health and social fun/communication, thus the more offgame time, the less waste time for players !
Everyone can try lightweight balls, for example 2gr balls, to feel how extremely more easily to play table tennis for new beginners.
The next balls of table tennis must be lightweight balls, for example, 2-2.5gr balls instead of the current 2.7gr balls.
The result of lightweight balls will be staggering : there will be more billion new beginners come and keep playing table tennis with new lightweight balls of 2gr, because lightweight balls do not require stupid enormous few years of training to reach minimal amateur level to play amateur social table tennis game, but require only few weeks of training enough to play amateur social table tennis games. Of course, it leads to increadible big scale business of table tennis equipment manufacturers, it leads to increadible big number of table tennis audience of professional tournaments . Because new billion beginners will play and keep playing the easier version of table tennis with lightweight balls 2-2.5gram, but not the current stupid extreme difficult version of table tennis with heavyweight balls 2.7gram, thus they known playing table tennis as amateur players and once they known playing then they will have interest to watch table tennis tournaments. They will be billion one, once lightweight balls 2-2.5gram are applied in table tennis.

Lin Gaoyuan is at his peak right now. Ma Long is at least 4 years past his peak and still won.
ML is ~6 years past his peak, all other table tennis players at his age already dropped off, but somehow he is still firmly top 5 in the world

둘이 같이 연습을하니 서로 공을 너무 잘 아는 느낌이 많이 난다.. 너무 잘치는데.. 마롱 블레이드는 원래 무겁고 스윙을 빠르게 하기가 힘들다.. 대신 공이 더 뻗고 감각이 좋음.. 마롱이 나이가 이제 제법되는데도 더 다루기 쉬운 블레이드로 안바꾸는 이유는 공이 뻗고 위력적이라서 그런거 같음..
Игроки друг друга давно знают как облупленных. Вот Ма Лун и подавал такую подачу, которая неудобна для Линя. В короткой игре так же преимущество было у Ма Луна. То, что сработало против Фан Жендонга тут не прокатило. Вот Ван Чуцину тяжело играть против японо-кореяк с более тензорными накладками. У каждого свои слабости. А в сумме пока все равно Фан ведет в этом году.
Ma long mentality is no doubt
Первый удар после подачи Ма часто делает грубовато. Дальше и выше чем нужно. Возможно быстрое основание, х з. Большой процент проигрышей по этой причине. Но меня радует что Ма каждый раз демонстрирует прогресс слева, он развивается. Это прикольно.

I think he genuinely thought it was a great shot that Lin made and he was probably impressed that he made the shot under pressure.

Lin had his opportunities. Ma lived dangerously there, but he's a bit more stable than Lin.
Its time for LG to beat ML. One or two tricks did the difference.
No way did Lin lose this game, no way.
He was so much better in the beginning, then choking hard in the 2nd game, blowing the 3rd completely.
Of course Ma will creep back in and mentality-wise Ma is much stronger, so he will win a close decider.
Ma is much slower now, yes, his forehand isn't as deadly anymore making more mistakes (same as Xu Xin past his peak), but his short touch game is impeccable.
His backhand is steady and his serves are still top notch.
It is enough for everyone outside of China, inside China WCQ and FZD will beat him now cuz they're at their peaks.
Lin made a comeback but could've really annihilated Ma if not for that 2nd game... Really wanted him to win, but that's not what happened

Такое ощущение что Ма Лонг стал подавать подачи откровенно закрывая , а Лин просто из уважения к великому не мог ничего сказать ни ему ни судьям и его это поломало. Подачу не видит , как играть
Не согласна с вами.Малонг подает как всегда,да и судьи сделали бы замечание,если б он закрывал подачу.

I heard an interview with umpire who said that ML serves are illegal quite frequently, but they don't call faul serve, because it causes confusion, wrong perspective, they have no way to prove it.

В открытом розыгрыше Лин сильнее , а в коротко Ма его уничтожил. Зачем Лин вообще играет в коротко не понятно. Ну срезай всё длинно или скидывай и пошёл разыгрывать
Банок наполучаешь первым ходом. Тут надо исхитриться отпилить чуть вылетающий и при этом сильно пропиленный мяч, чтобы начали навесом, а не смахнули со стола и не вломили сразу мощно. Тогда можно перекрутить. Но чуть отдал длиннее или мягче - получишь сразу навылет.

@@fraer111 естественно резать всё длинно постоянно не получится, подача то больше бок, то наоборот больше низ.
И полудлинная подрезка (вылетающий мяч) она тоже относится к длинной.
И коротко играть 1-2 раза и 5 тоже нужно, чтобы не было привыкания.
Но ... Ма уже не вытягивает открытые розыгрыши , он больше за счёт чтения игры может выигрывает .
Да , он по прежнему гений, по прежнему читает игру и супер грамотно тактически играет. Но очень странные вещи начал делать Лин после счёта 1-0 и 5-2 , когда Ма стал подавать другую подачу.
Отрезал бы длинно всё и играл открытый розыгрыш, раз подачу не видишь .
Игра Лина это встречать атаки соперников . , Достаточно посмотреть последний матч против Фан Жендуна , который он выиграл 4-3 на 9 .

@@PlayTableTennis Так посмотри последний розыгрыш в этом матче. Там как раз Лин сделал длинную срезку после подачи соперника и Ма Лун от души лупанул.
Да и в розыгрышах у Ма Луна как то больше вращения в мячах было, а Лин конкретно ногами не успевал выйти и больше блокировал удары. Возможно что просто Лин не успел восстановиться после предыдущего турнира. Все-таки постоянно быть на пике формы нереально.
