  • Learn how to create a Shohin Bonsai forest from young seedlings. In this movie Morten Albek shows you how a forest planting can be created with 1-3 year old Maple seedlings, easily found in forests.
Morten is the teacher of our Shohin Bonsai online course, see:

Nicely explained & very inspiring ! Thank you. I didn't think a forest plantation could go this small. I initially felt how is he going to fit those big seedlings into such tiny pots. But your finished work showed beautifully how it is done. Amazing !

It seems like the soil level is kinda high in the pot! And it looks like there are too many roots stuffed into the small size space. Will there be any room for new roots to grow? Is that the intent - for the roots not to grow any further to keep the trees small? I am curious! Lastly, It seems like a good idea using fine soil in small pots like this so the moisture stays longer. Usually my soil more coarse, but I will try fine soil in one of my smaller pots in the future!

Bonsai By LAN Thanks. Room for roots is small of course. I leave more roots in the start so the trees will start well. After one or two seasons I replant and adjust if growth is strong. Later repotting will be between 3-4 years. This is just the start.

Great video but I cant help but notice that there is no more room for the roots to grow. It looked like it's root bound already by stuffing multiple trees in a tiny pot. Is that ok?
