Dear Peter, Superb. Not bothered about the dryness that is exactly what I needed to help me make a choice. Your analysis of what a hobbyist needs compared to a professional drilling into masonry etc was extremely helpful. Thanks for not adding background music!
Hi Fred, I have done something on their sanders and also a "Which Domino" video. When I bought my first tranch of Festool kit I did not consider their Centrotec standard but now I am a complete fan. For the drills I really love the way that chucks and other accessory pieces can be switched around or shared between drills. Cheers. Peter
Peter thank you for this excellent series on the Festool Drill/Drivers. It has really helped me choose my next drill. And a few weeks ago got to handle them all at one of the Festool Roadshows. But your detailed demos and presentations really helped separate each machine. Thank you!
i guess im asking randomly but does someone know of a method to log back into an instagram account..? I was stupid forgot the password. I love any assistance you can give me!
@Briggs Bodhi i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and im in the hacking process atm. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will reply here later with my results.
Hi Peter, thank you very much for getting back to me so fast and as always for all your professional and honest advice. I will choose between the two you have recommended. Cheers Dan
This video was incredibly helpful! My old non-festool drills are wearing out plus I’ll need a right angle chuck. This helped me focus down on the -18 models. I already have the festool BHC rotary hammer drill so my new drill won’t need the hammer function. From sunny California, many thanks! This definitely saved me time.
Thanks very much, most videos that talk about the domino jointing system use one of these drills as part of the work to install a pulling fixing connector for long boards, etc and do everything to hide which drill they use, and no links are there to say which one!
I don't know if Festool changed the clutch on the PDC18 when they rebadged the Protool (which I have) but I have found the clutch, which is electronic, to be quite variable in its function. Perhaps it is sensitive to the variable hardness of some woods. I have found that drills with old school mechanical clutches much more consistent in use.
Hi Stephen, I am not sure about this but mine works fine. Some of the tools have automatic power adjustment and cut-outs which may seem, to some users, odd. It is all designed to protect the tool from misuse. Cheers. Peter
Peter it's horses for courses I guess. I eventually purchased the c18 with the offset chuck and right angle attachment. I recently added the countersink chuck which is very good for screw setting without worrying about the torque settings. I seem to be getting quite a collection of drills but having one drill for drilling, another for countersinking and a third for screw setting sure helps the workflow if not the bank balance.
A good review Peter. I have an older version of the C18 and it is the C15. The 15 volt battery is a bit lighter than the 18 volt battery. Unfortunately it seems Festool no longer produces the C15 volt battery so if these batteries die I will probably get the CSX. Happy Holidays. Stay safe. Ron
Hi Ron, The drill may well work with the 18v batteries. My Festool jigsaw was sold as a 15 volt machine and works perfectly with 18v batteries. Cheers. Peter
@Review Master The quality control on all Festool kit is excellent and so you must not worry about where it is made. They have some terrific engineers in the Czech Republic. I have the TXS and the CXS (same machine in different plastic bodies) and they are used more than any other drill in my workshop. They are excellent. Peter
Hi Steve, I really though that there was one but I have discovered that there is no such item. You cannot fit the C18 eccentric chuck to the PDC as the PDC does not have the interface on the body of the drill to engage with the location rings on the eccentric chuck. Cheers. Peter
Hi Peter, merry Xmas and a happy New year to you and yours. Which festool cordless screw gun would you recommend for drilling 100mm holes using a hole saw? Also I heard you can get a chuck for the impactor that turns off the impact function and so can be used to drill holes, any truth to that? Cheers
Hi peter, I have a C12, I like electronic torque control and the eccentric chuck, it's also quite light weight. Unfortunately it's been discontinued now. In terms of top speed, Fein also make a drill that runs up to 3800rpm, its aimed a metal workers and doesn't have an hammer mode, but it does have attachments for tapping threads etc. I didn't know there was an eccentric chuck for the PDC18/4 this must be a new product for 2018? Andrew
How do know when buying the festool CXS original verses the New CXS. I want to make sure I get the new model. Whats the differance. Is there a Model number to look for. Is the new version using the 2.6 ah batterys and the original use the 1.3ah. They are confusing here in the US they offer it 3 different ways is the Festool 564534 Li 2.6 Ah CXS Compact Drill the new version. Ty
Hello Peter, how precise are the drill drivers? I have to send my brand new DRC back to the Festool dealer because the centrotec chuck and the bigger chuck had a major run out. The speedset switch was not going smoothly. The Festool systainer sticker shows that the DRC was made in Chech Republic. I was very disappointed about this machine. Thanks for sharing; much appreciated. Kind regards. Richie.
Hi Richie, I have had no problems with my machines at all except needing new brushes in my oldest CSX. Festool will sort out any and every problem that you have under their comprehensive 3 year warranty. Peter
Hi Peter- I wondered if I could ask your advice please- I own a Hilti cordless drill & impactor but for small delicate jobs like hanging doors and fitting locks I think they are overkill and I wondered if you could advise a Festool cordless drill that was light to carry around. As I said only light screwing and drilling, I have the bigger guys to take care of the rest. Cheers Dan
Hi Dan, I think the choice for you will be between the CXS and the TXS. They both have the same power and accessories and (I think) are the same price. The choice for you will be the type of grip that you prefer. The TXS is technically better balanced but they are both so light that you would have to be a 6 year old to get any fatigue from using them. Personally I prefer the CXS but I cannot fault the TXS. Good luck. Peter
Hi Thiago, I own the original (old) CXS and the PDC 18. The new CXS and TXS and the C18 are on loan from Festool UK and the BHC was borrowed from a friend. Many thanks. Peter
Hallo Peter, Thank you for yet another excellent video. I always enjoy your videos because you pay so much attention to detail. They’re very instructive. I have a questions, though. You say that an eccentric chuck is available for the PDC. I have been looking into getting a PDC myself and I haven’t found an eccentric chuck for any of the festool drills, other than the T/C18. I have been given to understand that the eccentric chucks that come with the C/T18 set won’t fit on the PDC either because they seem to require the metal ring that is only present on those drills and not on the PDC. Kind regards, Bram
Hi Bram, I had hoped that there was an eccentric chuck for the PDC but alas there is not one available. I am now goig to have to get my own C18 in order to have this invaluable capability. Many thanks for the kind words. Peter
Bram van den Bosch Bram, my CXS that I bought here in the U.S. several years ago came with all the chucks/attachments that Peter mentioned earlier. It was a set version. It came with the angle chuck, the eccentric chuck, the Centrotec chuck and the Jacobs chuck... I bought the set primarily for the eccentric chuck. The drill has come in very handy... Ron
Hallo Ron, Thank you for your reply. I have a CXS myself, but I have never seen an eccentric chuck for it. Do you have a model number? Kind regards, Bram

I've already got a gd few bits just now but I'm thinking should I get more just now before what I think will increase the price even more in the future once brexit occurs. Just your thoughts? Hi William, I am not sure that we will see very much difference. If anything there could be a very small price rise but if we get the much sought after free trade deal with the EU then things will be fine. Generally, most nations do not put tariffs on tools and so I hope that there will be no change at all. Peter
Hi Ron, They now have an impact driver but I have not been able to try one out. I am still using my 9 year old Hitachi impact driver which still does a great job despite the old battery technology. As far as I know the impact driver is the only new tool. Take a look at their web site - they normally keep it up to date. Cheers. Peter

So grateful for this video. This is the exact content which Festool should have on the front page of their site. Well done, sir!

New Brit Workshop will do Peter. Are the batteries in either the CXS or TXS comparable with any other Festool tool? Cheers again, Dan
Hi Dan, No but they are compatible with each other and the same charger is used to charge them both (CXS and TXS). Peter
New Brit Workshop 👌thanks again Peter
