    Every time a politician tells us that if we approve 1 of their proposals, they lie. My state promised us that if we accept an increase in gas tax, that will pay for all the road work. We still have crumbling bridges and tire popping potholes everywhere. We were told that if we approved for casinos and other gambling, that it would go to NOTHING except the schools. Yet, we still have overcrowded and outdated conditions.

    Maybe if they started enforcing vehicle registration fees they'd have more money to fix these bridges. It seems like 25% of vehicles I see on the road have no license plates, long expired temporary plates, or tags that are expired more than one month.

I agree with the fair rating but they need to track the money cause that bridge could have been easily repaired for pedestrians. Just wait until one falls and they will have all of them inspected and someone will take the blame and they will ask for more money. Problem solved.

    It's not just Colorado. States build new bridges (and roads) that waste money on unique designs for the bridges when a standard design engineered for the location would suffice. They also waste money on artistic decoration and landscaping that should be spent on the upkeep and replacement of existing bridges and roads. Every dollar should be spent to replace and maintain our roads in an efficient and responsible manner.

    RANT. We have the same problem in Rhode Island where the population density is much higher ( not just the density of the population). The revenue for bridge and road repair, thanks to legislatures, is deposited into the states "general fund". According to state records we have only one general, a Maj. General in the Nat Guard. Currently navigating a bridge failure on I-195 in Providence. Bird feces hid the structural deterioration. Narragansett Bay

  • @sliver01

    I am no engineer by any means, but wouldn't exposed rebar be a bad thing? Moisture getting into them, causing them to expand and cracking the concrete and spalling? Thus the whole thing losing structural integrity over time? And since that is the case, most those bridges be considered poor and dangerous to go over?

      @@randyb1890
      The reason for 'over design' is not to allow the bridge to rot away.

    • @brandongaines1731
      @brandongaines1731 7 місяців тому +1

      @@gregculverwellabsolutely, though that's also not to mention that rebar and concrete are simply exponentially better together than concrete or steel on their own. One is good in compression, the other is good in tension, and, honestly, on those poor-rated bridges where the rebar actually IS showing through (the fair-rated bridge had exposed piping, very different), that just means that the rebar has been doing its job at keeping the bridge together; of course, now that the rebar IS exposed on certain bridges, the time has just passed to be starting serious conversations on their replacements, because, once the exposed parts of the rebar start to corrode, that can spread and become systemic to the bridge in a relative hurry.

    "Under this policy, the governor-appointed Colorado Transportation Commission would have authority to restrict funding for use only on climate-friendly transportation projects if the CDOT or a regional planning authority fails to meet its emissions reduction target. Lew stated that this policy allows for capacity increases, but that major projects would require offsets in the form of climate-friendly additions."

I don't think people understand that America not Colorado is in an infrastructure crisis. We built to much all at the same time and now have no money to maintain and replace without large tax increases. Yes its ugly but I prefer method and fact based science to determine if it needs to proceed now. There are just a lot of Karen's in Colorado.
